Haven't read monthly Batman since the new 52What's worth reading from the runs that have been published since then? Just in terms of quality, don't really care for continuity if it can be ignoredI've read and enjoyed some of Tom King's comics (Human Target, Omega Men, Supergirl) but opinions of his Batman run online seem mostly negative?
>big two comic published in a year starting with a 2>worth reading
>>150396236If you like the old stuff maybe you'll enjoy Human Target, each chapter is about a different member of the Justice League International
>>150396170>The Bat-Man: First Knight>Batman/Dylan Dog>Batman: Dark Patterns>Batman & Robin Year One>Absolute BatmanThese are all good and worth reading imo.
>>150396170Since you mentioned runs, there have been three writers on the main title since Snyder. The first is Tom King, whose take on Batman seems to be almost universally reviled, James Tynion who was seen initially as the redeemer of King's awful run but whose stuff very quickly turned to shit and up until very recently Chip Zdarksy. Strictly between these three, I'd recommend the latter, crossover-heavy though it was. Very strong artwork on all three by the way, it is the stories that inherently suck.If you care about Detective Comics runs, I'd suggest the most recent completed one by Ram V called Gotham Nocturne. Terrific art, amazing covers and a semi-interesting, if not very well executed, storyline. The current run by Tom Taylor is incredibly mid so I wouldnt try getting into it. Other notable runs since the Nu52 days have been the ones by James Tynion and Peter Tomasi, but I havent read them so no comment. I believe it is the former who turned Robin gay.As far as mini-series go, the Black Label imprint has come up with a couple of decent ones over the years. My personal favorites would be Jock's One Dark Knight, Rodney Barnes' Full Moon and Garth Ennis' Reptilian. There are currently two ongoing ones worth picking up: Robin Year One by Mark Waid, which features amazing art and Dan Watters' Dark Patterns which is the best new Batman thing I have read in years. If you read anything whatsoever, absolutely read this one
>>150396980The only one I’d disagree with the absolute, I find all of those comics to be terrible outside of Martian Manhunter. Which is funny because I don’t like anything else camp has written.>>150396170Do not listen to: >>150397450 almost everything he mentioned from Zdarksy to Ram to reptilian to one dark knight are absolutely atrocious. The only Tec run that isnt absolute dogshit in that time is tomasi and despite the face I love the dude it’s not a very good run. Worth reading if you have some time though. Ram’s time on the book is particularly odious. Tamaki is better than that and her run is mostly lackluster outside of the art (the last time mora was good).Honestly, as bad as all of the Batman comics since 2010 have been, claiming Tynion is worse than zdarsky is just absurd. Zdarsky is every bit as bad as king both in characterization and mindless, brainmelting stupidity plot wise. Tynion’s batman run isnt as bad as his detective and, while an absolute mess, there is no conscionable way to say it’s as bad as king or zdarsky - even with the shitty OCs.
>>150397650I don't get the dislike for Detective Comics. I liked both Tamaki and Ram V.
>>150397685nta but I honestly don't remember anything about the Tamaki run outside of Mora being on artThe Ram V run is an odd duck, it is much more interested in doing a specific aesthetic and tone above everything else, so i can understand why readers didn't enjoy it.it was not well-paced which didn't help it since it was one long story
>>150397685Ram’s is literally one of the worst runs since rebirth. Not just on Tec but on any book. The only person who would claim otherwise is personally connected to him or to the company.
>>150396170Batman Dark Patterns is pretty great!
>>150397782That's fair. I didn't read it on release, I binged it one weekend. I could see it as a slog going through it monthly.I liked it because it featured the GCPD and scratched that early 00s Detective Comics itch. Gordon and the Blue Boys during NML, the Josie Mac Detective Comics backup during the restoration era, Gotham Central...
>>150397650>Ram’s time on the book is particularly odiousI see what you did there.>>150397794>The only person who would claim otherwise is personally connected to himI see what you did there too.I am not going to fight you on the merit of any of these stories since they are simply not worth it. If you hate the pajeet's run that much, more power to you. I am not part of the company btw, the non-tranny DC editor bit in my first post was a joke. Since the OP asked specifically for runs, well, this is what monthly Batman has been like for the past decade. I personally cannot stand that fat fuck Tynion's writing but if (you) like it, great. The Black Label stories I mentioned are kino though, especially Reptilian and Full Moon. I suggest you re-visit them with an open mind.
>>150398249>I personally cannot stand that fat fuck Tynion's writing but if (you) like it, greatI noticed you cant read. Says about as much as needs to be said about your opinion.
>>150396170Dark Patterns is okay.
>>150396170Nothing modern in the mainline is worth putting the time into. Even the Court of Owls is all hype & no substance. Tom King used his time on Batman to make him an atheist jew who gets cucked out of marriage by his own father from another reality. Also all the artists that worked with him sucked. Especially the 3D artists. Zdarsky is even worse writing wise with shark jumping bullshit & literal ai art trained on Batfleck.Just go back & read everything else before New 52.
>>150396316>Tom King
>>150396170there was one really good run where robin kept bruce in a basement dungeon and Stephanie and Cassandra and Barbara kept taking turns pegging him while Slade sold tickets; Joe Kerr and the leader of the Justice League, Harls did the play by play
>>150396236There've been plenty of good big 2 comics published in the past 25 years, though all of them have been written by Grant Morrison.
>>150401876There's plenty of good big two stuff aside from Morrison, though a lot of it under a different imprint.
>>150401999Checked. You're right, I just never pass up the chance to push Morrison propaganda.
>>150401876>>150402666I generally like Morrison, but I was not a fan of his last Batman run. Goofy Silver Age shit is not a Batman flavor I enjoy.
>>150396170I liked Batman: The Adventures Continue. It's set in the DCAU universe (sort of. It's updated to include modern technology but whatever) and uses the same general character design and art style. It's still like Batman Adventures so aimed primarily for kids but is just slightly more mature in my opinion. It's got the same fun episodic structure. There's also this really weird Batman: The Audio Adventures comic which is a prequel/tie in to the HBO Radio Drama (which is incredible and worth listening to. It's all on Youtube). Again, sort of episodic but with a bit more of a main plot that comes to a head in the final few issues. As a warning, the first special is set before Season 1 of the radio stuff and then every numbered issue afterward is a bridge between S1 and S2.
>>150402725It's kind of a shame they just throw in Deathstroke & Azrael without doing much with either.
>>150402725BTAC is shit.Audio Adventures was kino.
>>150397450>Dark Patterns which is the best new Batman thing I have read in years. If you read anything whatsoever, absolutely read this oneNice, I'll pick that one up for sure!>>150397650>Peter Tomasi detective comicsSounds interesting, I enjoyed his Batman & Robin>>150402725Co-written by Paul Dini, very niceI'm not a big connoisseur of the animated stuff, but I really like his detective comics
