I kind of knew going in that they were probably going to get together by the end but I was happy that they actually got a big kiss scene, and then to seal the deal, as if to remind the audience that it wasn't a one time fluke, they kissed again. It was good and we don't get that kind of thing enough in movies these days.Also I found it refreshing that they didn't do the whole "she's not my girlfriend!" shtick like we see so much. They kind of inverted it, because it's clear that Diane and Mr. Wolf want a relationship but they're scared of going for it not because of some sophmoric "relationships are scary" reason but because they're afraid of causing a scandal. And so they subverted a overused trope by having Wolf's friends mock him by saying he's been "friendzoned," which he correctly says is not the case since Diane is romantically interested, but he does so in a defensive way which makes it funny. He actually has a good reason for being sensitive about the subject, rather than the usual childish reasons we see in animated movies.
The climax of the movie reminds me a lot of Moonraker but somehow they made it less corny. In terms of the emotional beats of the movie, if you break it down the whole thing is basically building up for the big zero-G kiss scene. Much like the first movie, the sequel is a great illustration of a lot of basic screenwriting principles.idk if they still do the MTV Movie Awards (does MTV even have any cultural relevance anymore?) but it'd be great if Bad Guys 2 got nominated for best kiss. With how neutered other movies are these days it would probably win, too.

Honestly, I think a big reason I didn't enjoy Bad Guys 1 and 2 is just that the plot is too shallow for me. It's nice that the animation is so good, but Puss in Boots The Last Wish to this date is still the only 'high quality animated' film that feels like it's tied to an actually meaningful story and plotline. Maybe that's asking too much, but Dreamworks has had better plots in the past. I don't even really think the ending of the film makes all that much sense for its themes of choosing to live a life of good over a life of bad, because everyone thinks they're dead. I get that it's to lead into the book's next shark-jumpy plotline about aliens and superheroes eventually, but it doesn't strike me as particularly cohesive. Kitty's backstory was super barebones and we don't get much context on the other two gals, let alone the protags. How did Kitty even GET the footage of Diane for the blackmail? Wouldn't it have been a more impactful point to make if people rallied around Diane IN SPITE of her criminal past due to the genuine good she's done?
