Ignoring TTG! since it's protected by its DC branding, Cartoon Network doesn't have an all-powerful cash cow like SpongeBob, but AT, RS, Gumball, and now SU I guess are the closest thing. Similar to Nu-Bob defenders, fans of these early 2010s CN shows will go to bat for any creatively bankrupt attempt at reviving "their childhood favorites." They forgot all about Close Enough the moment we started getting teases of a Regular Show revival. The industry is COOKED, and nostalgia-blind superfans are to blame.

Although seeing Nick continue to rape Spongebob's corpse against the creator's wishes feels a lot more painful because Spongebob had rightly earned his place as a cultural phenomena in those first seasons. Nick kept pushing to make Spongebob a kid though because despite his popularity, they insisted they knew better and that kids can't relate to an immature adult character, even though they did for years. And now they're finally having their way with Spongebob as a kid, and its the most soulless slop they've ever done.
