I think Fionna is an interesting character that has some untapped potential. Not to disparage the current series, I get what it's doing, but it does feel like they're leaving a more typical adaptation of these ideas on the table.

So, I'm already at the end of season six of the series. And I'm starting to understand the complaints about “lore” because they're making the world smaller. But, like, early AT was also pretty small; if anything, the world was smaller than late AT. Like, all the episodes in season six explain the world of the series or character “arcs.” But what happens within them is driven by the characters, not the plot. Much like early AT.

One thing I noticed is how the series always made fun of childish stuff. The entire Candy Kingdom is like a parody of those colorful cartoon worlds. I mean, kids won't get it and will gobble up the vibrant colors, but as an adult you see how cynical it is. From the first episode, where they go over the paradoxical nature of the Candy Kingdom.

I finished season six and I'm really enjoying the lore more. I mean, what makes it so interesting is that it's not as important as people make it out to be. It's a bit of small world syndrome, but it's totally different from what I imagined. If anything, theorycrafting is what makes the world so small. Shit like “PB is evil” instead of the fact that CK is PB clinging to the past. And man, the series has a lot of psychosexual imagery, how the hell did they get past the censors? Some things look like they came out of Midnight Gospel.
