I think it's decent. Certainly better than most Crow books. It's kind of amazing how often Crow writers fumble something as straight forward as a revenge story.

I think it has to do with the emotional circumstances under which the person dies. If they die with too much tragedy, too much anger, or if their love is too pure, the come back to avenge it.
