I'm enjoying it. I'm not exactly blown away by it's story and setting (although it's getting better, and getting me more invested each episode), but that's made up for with zeurels great animation and general style. I like how we're getting more word exploration like in the last episode, sure we had that in 2, but the casino station was a lot more interesting. Also is it me, or where there intentional foot shots of the dinosaur lady?
>>150408158*world exploration Fuck.
Lmao, I guess people still don't really care about monkey wrench.
>>150409047No, we really don't. I'm sorry Zeurel
>>150409156I'm not zeurel, I'm one of the 5 or 6 fans of the series.
Poormans version of Cowboy Bebop.
>>150409176It reminds of space dandy more.
>>150408158I never got the hatedom for it here, the last few episodes have been pretty good.
The only thing that looks appealing from this show are the girls.
>>150409221That's the porn brain speaking. You can change how you feel by broadening your experiences
>>150408158no zeruelmaking cowboy bebop but with your OCs isn't a worthy hill to die on, even if its your "childhood pitch show" thing or whatever
>>150408158The main reason I'm invested is because I really like the way Humans are depicted in Monkey Wrench. Usually in sci-fi stories Humans are either the new kids on the block or the most common slight on every planet, so Humans being shown to be a vilified species hunted down by L.A.W because we fucked up a large portion of the galaxy is really fucking cool.
>>150408158this shit mid af bro
>>150409047I will care when Shrike has a different voice. I can overlook any other shortcomings and find stuff to enjoy but Jacob Barren's abhorrent acting fucking ruins it.
>>150410788>zoomer babbleOpinion discarded.
>>150410806Shrike is genuinely a fucking terrible main character and I hate that Zeurel is so obsessed with his shitty OC that he should have abandoned like a decade ago.
this show is an excellent example of how technical competence and creative talent are not the same thing
>>150409348That'd be really neat if we saw any humans, which we haven't, at all. Also I'm pretty sure this was the plot of Titan A.E, a movie that nobody actually likes
I...I like shrike.
>>150411395I loved Titan A.E. It's my favorite Don Bluth movie besides Secrets of NIMH.
>>150411437I'm willing to hear you out. What do you actually like about him? Everything about him just pisses me off. I don't like his voice, his design or his personality. The only thing interesting about him to me is that I'm pretty sure he is heavily connected to the whole Terran thing.
>>150408158This poster represents Monkey Wrench perfectly; it shows how Zeurel is so laser-focused on making his indie cartoon some lavish, technically impressive SPECTACLE that he loses track of keeping the simpler things memorable and entertaining (and manageable for an independent project). I barely remember any of these characters nor do I find their designs interesting. Even back when he first announced the series with the main character roster I felt the designs were meh. Super detailed, but with weak silhouettes that all just kind of get muddied together.
Kara, my beloved failure.
>>150411529One of the aspects of shrikes character is that he's very intense, which is written intentionally to come off as annoying, but also endearing (to me at least). Because with that intensity, he's also very fun and wacky, just like his character design and voice (although his voice can get grating). But yeah, I understand the hate because yes, he's still annoying, but the writing in general isn't that funny. So those fun and wacky aspects I enjoy about shrike arent utilised very well.
>>150411373I think he's an ugly Earthworm Jim ripoff, but I could at least give him a chance if his voice wasn't so grating.
>>150408158Tumblr Killer Instinct
>>150411624Kara paws...
>>150412777Hnnnnnghh, more please...
>>150411484Do you actually like it, or do you just want to fuck the kangaroo?
I still don't even know what the plot of this show is, or even the boundries of its worldbuilding. It's like Wander Over Yonder except WOY understood it was mostly episodic and comedic while Monkey Wrench, while also comedic, wants to you take its story revelations seriously and is trying to build to something.
>>150408158I'm not really impressed with it. I think the characters and concept are great but the writing and pacing make my attention slip always half-way through an episode. It's too fast at times and too lethargic in others, making it feel all over the place and not worth watching. If anything it shows animators are not exactly great storytellers, and I think the network model actually reigned a lot of them in considerably. With indie you get to see I unrestricted bad writing/cringe. Just because they made it without a network doesn't mean it's any better.
>>150409348Honestly, the show should have had a human protag
>>150413724> If anything it shows animators are not exactly great storytellersWhat a nonsense opinion, maybe you lost the ability to love cartoons as children do
>>150409221Zeurel can’t into sex appeal characters. He draws them too athletic and not in a sexy muscle mommy sorta way. He essentially just animates them like men with tits. Tyneen canonically doesn’t even have boobies.
>>150413724The only network animation worth watching right now is smiling friends. There's just more quality indie animated projects, even if they do have issues due to lack of resources for not having a major production company covering it.
>>150409221
>>150411395I may be in the minority of people who actually liked Titan AE as a kid and still think it's a fine movie now. The part that stuck out to me as a kid were the CG aliens and I felt that Drew Barrymore was not the right voice for Akima, but other than that, I think the film is unduly over-hated.
>>150411973I get the writing and unlike some anons, I really don't have a problem with the character himself. I think he *could* work. I agree with the annoying yet endearing aspect and I think he's written that way but holy fuck, his voice kills all of that immediately. In order for the character to be endearing he has to be at least somewhat likeable but every time that voice appears I want to claw my ears off. It's just really really REALLY poorly acted.I've said it before, but I'll say it again - Jacob Barrens is doing a poor impersonation of Cheech Marin mixed with Adam Sandler's "goat" character that probably makes people chuckle when he's high and drunk with his friends and has a couple one-linerss, but jesus FUCK is it annoying to listen to for an entire episode. I had the same problem with Olan Rogers doing his shitty frat boy impersonation of Will Ferrel for Final Space. https://youtu.be/-47H99gKlo4
>>150413662Yes.
>>150413924>the show should have had a Human protag>nearly everything stays the same, with the only change being "Shrike" isn't a weird Mexicant Earth Worm Jim creature with a portal head who use to be a L.A.W officer>Instead he is always wearing full body armor and helmet, hiding his identity>Still the partner to Beebs, though instead of being like a weird little brother that Beebs has to tard wrangle, they are both competent professionals >Beebs is the one who always talks to clients during jobs, Shrike just stands there menacingly waiting for a chance to kill something>no one, including Beebs, knows that Shrike is actually a Terran, but Beebs has suspicious due to him always seeming to have a murderous streak when it comes to L.A.W>Shrike's motivations are selfish greed and survival, until they get assigned a job to transport a big metal box to L.A.W and learns that it has one of his fellow Humans in it (this chick >>150414645)>Beebs doesn't know why he cares about saving some random Human, but trusts him enough to go along with it>they go into da green zone to save her, with metal arm chick join them and becoming like a little sister to both of themI dig it. I dig it a lot.
>>150408158It’s weird the para social relationship this place has with the show when it’s quite good. My only complaint is that the main duo would be better with more team members, but that seems to be what they’re working for in the next episodes.
>>150408158cool logo
>>150408158is that vinesauce
>>150409255Actual good advice in 4chan. Rare to see it.
>>150408158I think it's juggling a lot of little ideas, but I enjoy it. The casino episode was easily my favorite just because you get more of a glimpse of what it's like to actually live in this wacky sci-fi setting. The tech, the slew of alien designs, the mix of all these factions and people from all walks of life butting heads by the end, etc.
>>150416922And the fact that it doesnt have a target audience in mind. Every show no how bad it is always knows its target audience.
>>150416988It's just a cartoonier Bebop with aliens. Plenty of people like sci-fi
just speed that shit up 2x and it'll be enjoyable maybe
>>150409047because the first episode's ending was terrible. why bother continuing the series after that?
>>150410806Someone find him a new hairdresser PLEASE
>>150418232you don't like his hat?

>>150419937He’s trying to cope with balding by attempting to do a 2015 hipster thing. It isn’t working so well. He should just shave it off and hit the gym.
