I want to create a weasel character, and i begin ro norice how they are always portrayed as evil in many old cartoons, is there any explanation to this?
Weasels have always been for the lack of a better term stereotyped as being untrustworthy and sneakyWiktionary, which is surprisingly good for a Wikimedia project says "The verb is from c. 1900, from the supposed cunningness of the weasel."I assume it also has to do with how weasels eat farmer's chickens and shit so they were perceived as a threat or vermin in the popular consciousness
>>150415704Weasels eat your chickens and eggs and dig holes through your garden, same reason cartoon foxes are evil
>>150415704from what that guy is?
>>150415754i see, although I find it intriguing that they are always drawn in the same style (long snout, bucktooth)

>>150415960thank you very much
>>150415704The only non evil cartoon weasel I can think of is I Am Weasel
>>150416063i grew up with this show thinking that weasels were portrayed as the good guys in their stories, only to find out that's not the case
>>150415704They are cunning carnivores that prey on farm animals, makes sense for them to be easily portrayed as the sly bad guys type, like >>150415807 said.
>>150415704If you're looking for a weasel protagonist, you should probably go with their winter white variant, the ermine. Ermines are associated with purity because of their snow white coats, which makes them the "face" to the weasel's "heel".
>>150415704Weasels are not nice animals if gamba teached us.
All of the above. Minks, ferrets and ermines have a more positive reputation over the years.Anime like to use representatives of the mustelid family as magical girl's companions. Japan really likes them.I saw a lot OC who a lot kind, good etc so it's not the rule for the character. Personally I like my weasels being mischievous, it's more fun. In Disneyverse there was also a few weasels who was good (House if Mouse and some comics), but their roles are not that big.

>>150415704>Because it's all anti-weasel propaganda. The toon rabbits and the toon mice had folks convinced that their flesh and blood counterparts were nothing but innocent little furballs. Sure, that is until the rabbits get too prosperous for there to be a next year's harvest, or that neighborly mouse living in your kitchen gets a bad case of the plague. That's when folks suddenly don't mind letting weasels go to work.
>>150415704Honestly Tatyana Tushenko is probably both the closest weasel looking /co/ weasel and one of the few examples of a non-villainous weasel. Oddly enough I am also currently designing a weasel OC so it's kinda on my mind as well. I'd really like to point out how most /co/ weasels look absolutely nothing like actual weasels. It's almost like most animators or cartoonists had never seen so much as a Stoat or even a pet ferret before.
