Why do so many indie cartoons have that same type of anime dub voice acting? Mainstream cartoons don't have it nearly as much

Digital Circus has this? I'd say the voices in this show are the least like an anime dub out of like all shows coming out.
>>
Mutt dubs of anime are a crime against humanity. Why can't you worthless obese fuck just make direct translation without changing names, plot and soundtrack? Subhuman retards.
>>
maybe just they both have small budgets and as a result they both hire the same rank of VAs

If you mean the super phoned in way that characters are voiced in anime dubs (as well as in videogames), then I don't really see it in indie cartoons.

For some reason when it comes to cartoons, be it TV productions or web series, the VA work sounds smooth and natural, with proper inflection; but whenever it's a dub, usually from japanese, the voice acting goes down the drain and everyone is making a poor attempt at a faux-theatric voice that I just can't take seriously. This only seems to apply to American english dubs too, making it even weirders since it means it's not an inherent part of translation.
I guess the standards are just lower and people leave it at "good enough"? Maybe VAs just don't bother when it's weebshit?

they have to match the lip flaps so it can come out weirdly

Literally the same circles. Fuckin Rinachan voiced a Jojo. It's all the same people.

I imagine it's because a lot of indie VA work, like anime dub work, is a clique. It's who you know, not what you can do, and so the same voices tend to rotate.

That said, I think TADC's cast is quite good

I've noticed this too, particularly with "cute girl" voices. In general anime and manga have often very defined archetypes, your tsunderes, oneesans, deadpans etc, and jp VAs have developed a wide range to cover them, each with their own nuances. These tropes are closely linked to the japanese culture, like caricatures of different personalities, and transplanting them directly into another language typically doesn't turn out well. To me that is what seems to happen in these low budget anime dubs, actors just imitating the japanese inflection instead of going with a tone more natural to english. Is it due to lack of voice direction or some misguided attempt to be as 'faithful' to the source material, who knows.

American VA scene is one large incestuous group of nepotistic bullies. The SAG-AFTA drama of recent times was enlightening.

She sure made a career for herself, didn't expect that.

You've already put more thought into this than the people who direct japan>english dubs.

Always relevant:

That said I generally like TADC's dub, the only issue I have is that sometimes there are awkward pauses between the lines of dialogue that feel like a fucking Kingdom Hearts cutscene.
>>
>>150420431
We haven't really done that since the 90s, Paco.

>>150420391
Internet people swim in the same places with the same influences whether they’re artists or VAs or 4chan posters

>>150420391
Anime is cheaper than cartoons, I think.
>>
>>150420391
pretty sure its cause it's non union, its just more cost effective.

granted as someone who is helping a friend develop his own animated series, we wanna work with Vancouver VAs but we still don't know how much that will entail.

Rina won.
Cory lost.

It is what it is.

You could even say it can't be helped.

I don't know what you're talking about. I see very little of it. I think you're just a west-hating /a/utist who sees that an indie cartoon has VAs that normally dub anime and are hearing what you want to hear to justify continuing to worship Japan.

Prime example, most of the TADC cast normally dubs Japanese and Chinese shit and their performances in TADC are superior to any of those dubs. Because not only do they not give a shit about those jobs, the original creators and the people hired to dub it also don't give a shit. No effort is put in whatsoever. Most Japanese and Chinese writers, and most people translating their shit into English, being awful doesn't help.

They have anime accent in TADC too, though.

That's not a thing, you made that up.
>>
>>150424703
No, they don't. You're hearing what you want to hear. They sound nothing like they do when dubbing anime, it's pretty night and day.
