Blaming Shrek for the downfall of 2D animation and the start of irony poisoning animation is a meme. Most of the movies are great, and the movies were never just irony or parody for irony's or parody's sake, as they used it to write a narrative of accepting yourself and not judging a book by its cover without pulling out the half-assed "but you magically get beautiful or better in the end" trope that was so prominent at the time, especially with Disney. If you blame Shrek for irony poisoning, you would also have to blame the Simpsons for it too because the Simpsons was created as a jab towards sitcoms like Shrek was created as a jab towards Disney, and I think most of us would refuse to listen to some retard trying to make the point that early Simpsons is bad because of irony poisoning. Pixar has also been a thing for years at this point too, so 2D animation would have been on its way out without Shrek anyway. The idea of blaming something good and popular for its bad copycats that didn't understand what was good about it has never been fair. If something gets popular, it's going to have bad copycats.
