What is the timeline like where this became as big a cult hit as Nightmare Before Christmas?
>>150425937Skellington Productions likely would've never shut down. Coraline ends up being a Disney production and Shadow King gets made without incident. You'd probably get merchandise and the occasional walkaround, but not being tied to a holiday like NBXmas, while still being niche, means there's probably no permanent park presence. At best, A Bug's Land in California Adventure exists as James' park, with each bug hosting a ride and the peach pit house as a centerpiece. Disney may have fought to adapt more Roald Dahl works, but it's unknown if they'd succeed. Witches, Fantastic Mr. Fox, and the new Wonka movies likely don't get made if Disney goes all in and buys the rights.
>>150425995Oh yeah, and the peach ends up a world in Kingdom Hearts with a rhino bossfight
>>150425937Wherever that universe is, please take me there. This movie is so underrated and it deserves to have a stronger cultural impact.
>>150426023I think the only thing holding it back from being a perfect flick for me is the weakness of some songs ("MY NAME, IS JAMES") and I think we needed ONE more adventure on the Peach. Aside from that, great movie.
Love to see this get a 4k restoration, but unlikely given how Disney's treated it over the years. One of the first movie posters I had as a kid was from this (the simple peach against white BG image), either got it from seeing it in the cinema or from a shoe shop that used to do merch tie-ins
>>150426023Did they ever have plans to include the silkworm?
>>150426163I don't think so. Silkworm had almost no lines in the book, and their one role in the story was easily filled by Ms. Spider.Glowworm already had almost no focus, adding Silkworm would split the screentime even further.
Well they would have been able to adapt this book as they were planning on it being yhe next film after James
>>150425995Based high effort poster. We'd also have tons of teenaged girls hot for the centipede.>>150426163I'm not sure but if they did I'm sure it was nixed early. Already bloated cast and his main purpose could be accomplished by the Spider.
>>150426131They probably should have included the run in with the cloud men from the book
>>150426215>We'd also have tons of teenaged girls hot for the centipede.Oh yeah, he'd never get as big in that scene as Jack, but lots of girls would definitely be into him.Ms. Spider would also be WAY more folks' "first crush" compared to Sally.
>>150425937You get the giant peach house as an attraction in Animal Kingdom, probably even a musical show with animatronics and its eventually tied into a bigger Bug Land when a Bug's Life comes around. In Halloween, Jack takes over the Haunted Mansion while Oogie Boogie takes over the Bug Land in Animal Kingdom.

>>150425995I think there'd be a bigger cascade effect, too. If Disney is able to carve out a niche using stop motion, other studios would follow suit. Dreamworks would've likely never ended their agreement with Aardman. Right now, American theatrical stop motion is left alive entirely by two directors (one of which only doing it when he feels like it) and one studio. Disney lending stability to that arena means it would be more likely to flourish.
