Are any Aquaman or Namor comics good nautical fiction?
>>150436760>nautical fictionThat's a weirdly fancy thing to call it.

Good question. I doubt anyone who considers Moby Dick or Old Man and the Sea to be their favorite book would say so. A big part of the genre is how the conditions of nautical life provide challenges for the characters, while these superhumans have abilities that negate most of those hurdles. Their adventures are also more about the fantastical elements under the water rather than the mundane ones atop it. I would imagine the older comics that were mostly just short one-off adventure stories where they interact with normal people on the sea would be a closer fit than the modern takes that focus more on spectacle and drama. The most recent Aquaman book wrapped up its first arc, and while I liked it the whole thing could have taken place in outer space rather than a magical water world and you wouldn't have to change all that much. They did put Captain Nemo from 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea in it as a side character, so that was neat.
NoBut there’s some Aquaman recs anywayruns by PAD, Johns, Parker, AbnettAquaman: Death of a Prince (collection of backups from the 70s, the story where Manta kills their son)Atlantis ChroniclesAquaman: TIme and TideSub Diego arcTempest (1996)Mera (2018)
>>150436760This pic has some Aquaman recs. Read Aquaman Special 1989 first, then Atlantis Chronicles (from pic), then Aquaman 1991, then read everything else in the pic.
>>150436760Well there isn't that much nautical fiction (I'm assuming you mean Underwater fantasy in this instance) to compare it to, there's the Little Mermaid, H20 and various YA novels
>>150443045Golden age Aquaman was fairly grounded and nautical based.
>>150443588A lot of them exist, a lot are in the public domain
Current Aquaman's pretty good. Hah. current.
>>150436760Is Aquaman as popular and recognizable as Spongebob, The Little Mermaid and Finding Nemo?
>>150443167>>150443630>>150443114Nobody asked faggot kill yourself
>>150437860>https://desuarchive.org/co/thread/149007160/That anon was pointing you to a thread that discussed something similar and had replies, sonMost Aquaman (and I imagine Namor) will be action adventure stories. Some of them will involve things like sub or ship rescues, ocean piracy, etc. but very little of those will actually have much that will likely pass for 'nautical fiction.'
>>150443817Are you that faggot who made those shit sci-fi threads and got autistic about recommendations?
>>150443817It's literally what OP asked, retard. Why are you even posting here?
>>150443645Yes.
>>150443045The mundane stuff is more exciting than the fantastical stuff. What happened?
>>150437402that's literally what it's called though
>>150445897it's written better
>>150445897Aquatic characters are hard to balance.

>>150436760Yeah.
>>150443167This list is solid.
If nautical nonsense be something you wish...Extra points because one of their enemies is an obvious Namor ripoff called Man-Fish.Also, arrr happy Talk Like A Pirate Day me hearties!
>>150436760No, id call it water fantasy though. I've never read a Namor book because i think he's kind of lame and an asshole but i've read a few Aquaman ones and they often include a lot of fantastical elements in them like sorcerers and game of thrones underwater shit.
>>150445897If it's about Moby Dick/Old Man compared to Aquaman it's because imo, there's a real sense of struggle and "adventure" to them due to the limitations of the characters. Underwater Superman can be cool but there's something satisfying about an old guy fighting off sharks and swordfish trying not to die.
>>150450177I would have bought this as a kid.
>>150450961Well of course. It's got a gorilla on the cover.
>>150450269Nautical fantasy?
>>150443114>>150443167Thanks.
>>150436760Pic related is pure kino. There was a period where the "Knights" imprint had consistently banger releases.

>>150444590You know goddamn well it isn’t, hence why everyone before that faggot correctly told them there weren’t.
