I'll expose myself and say that Bagley is my favourite Spider-Man artist. You picked out the best choreographed fight in the series by selecting a section of the Hollywood arc. Partly because it felt like the arc was built around the prolonged fight and the journey it took them on. However, I don't think that's representative of the series as a whole. There were multiple arcs where the fights felt like they weren't really factored in at all, moreso as the series went on. By the time other artists were on the book there was barely any, but it did return for Death of Spider-Man while Bagley was on the title again. It's to the point where I wonder how much creative control artists were given during the process. New Avengers, Secret Invasion, Siege, all these had barely any choreography. Another is Ultimate Cataclysm, despite also being done by Bagley, had near incomprehensible fights.

His costume being blue with red accents also helps him stand out, whereas Maka's Spider-Girl suit feels very generic. Now, Maka on the other hand?? Maka's spider-powers are identical to Spidey's with the addition of organic webbing- how original. Her base mutant powerset is also pretty damn derivative. She's a power copier like Synch *and* has the same memory-absorption power as Prodigy. Her codename was originally Funhouse, invoking the idea of a funhouse mirror- a distorted reflection of oneself. It would make more sense for her to be a pure power-copier with the twist of her copied powers being somehow, well, distorted. I actually like the idea of a solo hero who's a power-copier- you usually only see them as part of an ensemble, and they tend to also get stuck in the rut of copying the same powers over and over. I wouldn't be surprised if it's for the same reason- Marvel's hankering for a brown girl superhero to better hook that demographic, so they make her a "legacy" character in the hopes of banking on Spidey's popularity instead of letting her stand on her own because it's a quicker way to get eyes on a character.
