DC, and particularly Batman, have saved the comic book industry once again.
>>150439923Yeah that's what happens when you actually let the comic run from 2016 to now with zero relaunches, even when the creative team changesTake notes Marvel
Those numbers are ass. And you nerds think that's impressive?
>>150440116It's literally the best-selling Batman comic.>>150439973
>>150440116They're good for the state of the modern market. I still want to see actual numbers though.
>>150440167>It's literally the best-selling Batman comicThat's sad.
>>150439923Isn't it just another Batman book? What's so special about this one?
No way it sold that much actually. it is all variant cover incentives right?
>>150440199in the new one he rapes the joker
>>150440194Any other superhero comic probably won't even reach 10,000 copies sold.
>>150440199I like the batsuit
>>150440317Yeah, lots of BBC sissy retards like it
>>150439923>#1 comic sold to comic whalesYou didn't save shit. Get back to me when you're at random issue# 832 and it's selling a million units each month.
>>150440252>Any other superhero comic probably won't even reach 10,000 copies sold.Even sadder.
Inflated sales due to the blind bag variant
>>150439939As has been pointed out repeatedly, you cannot rely on those figures - as they are inconsistent. It's not even an apples and oranges comparison.Because in some cases, they are using 'home video' and in others they are using 'dvd/bluray' - which would not be the same thing and ignore things like digital sales/digital downloads as far as sales 'to consumers' or 'end users'
i like his art style a lotalso, what a chad
>>150439923>>150440317
>>150440234>>150440386
I just wish it was more noir and less well, whatever Fraction has done with it in the debut issue. Too lighthearted besides the cringe Joker gang
>>150440199Compared to bat books written over the past 10 years, another batman book that so far seems good looks amazing in comparison.
Why is there a Batman #1?
>>150439923>500,000Way less than the usual shonenslop.
>>150442981Chip killed the sales like King did, except with Snyder on Absolute Batman DC didn’t have confidence that Fraction or anybody else would raise sales on it like Tynion managed to doSo they opted to just relaunch it instead and guarantee great sales for the first arc
Reminder that Nightwing is the only book left with its rebirth numbering and that Watters has started writing past the first three arcs/18 issues so he’s probably getting to 30-36 issues minimum.
>>150443089they should launch a new #1 at every new arc and generate infinite money
>>150439923/thread
Alfred still ded?
>>150439923How does that stack up against Dog Man?
Based. Transgender terrorists.
>>150443163I hope the rebirth volume can make it to #154, just to beat the 90s volume.
>>150439923>500k sold to comic shops>majority sold to speculators>comic is boring as shit

>>150439923Based Jim Lee. He is a genius
"Best Selling comic book of 2025" is like if I said I'm the fastest person in my room
>>150444561If he's a genius why doesn't he get off his ass and finish H2sh? It's one of the shittiest stories ever published by DC but it was selling like hotcakes.
>>150439923GOTTA HAVE MY BATMAN
People still buy comic books?
>>150439923Why do Batman #1s sell so good?

>>150443334What's depressing is this shit isn't even good.
I missed the thread(s) reacting to the issue. What was the /co/nsensus?I thought there was a really strong influence of Verhoeven's Robocop.
>>150442981Because Zdarsky tanked the Batman book so hard, DC had to relaunch.
>>150445362Eh.It's nothing special.>>150182919
>>150445362>>150445397For some reason I thought the thread would still be aroundhttps://desuarchive.org/co/thread/150182919/
>>150445362Croc being devolved again is dumb. The Alfred thing is weird.Otherwise it was a pretty mediocre and slow start.
>>150443334If this Batman book got a high budget anime we could compare their sales more accurately Hiroyuki Nakano...>Regarding the series' sudden huge success, Weekly Shōnen Jump editor-in-chief Hiroyuki Nakano stated that the manga sales shot up straight after its anime adaptation finished, explaining that a large number of people watched the series through streaming services after it ended rather than watching it weekly. Nakano also stated that currently is harder for a manga series running in the magazine to become a hit, and Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba despite having started in February 2016, did not became a major hit until late 2019, adding that its "success hinged on word of mouth generated after the anime's run".And Kazuhiko Torishima...>Torishima: Demon Slayer only got so popular because the anime was amazing. The manga itself wasn’t all that great. It’s like the manga was just raw coffee beans, and the anime roasted and brewed them into something truly special.Kimetsu no Yaiba? A badly drawn manga carried by the anime and nothing else. The manga are drafts, the anime is the final product.>highest sales per volumeIs still Dragon Ball. Shueisha just stopped counting.
>>150445362boring
>>150439923wow it made about 2 million dollars lolthats probably just enough to pay for distribution
>>150439923>new #1>literally dozens of variants>fucking polybagged foil covers tooWE ARE LIVING! LIVING IN '90s!
>>150439923>rebooted Batman #1>selling only 500.000 unitsIt's literally their usual scam, just sayan. And the speculators aren't even falling for it.
>>150443163>Nightwing is doing better than Titans>Layman said Titans is satisfied with how Titans is selling so he's getting the full two years/24 issuesHopefully Watters can go longer than Taylor.
>>150439923Those are the orders, not the actual sales. Actual sales will be 40-60% lower.Besides, #2 will sell 120k copies at best, probably fewer. By the time it reaches #7, everyone will realize again that Fraction is an even worse hack than Zdarsky and King, and sales will probably drop even lower than ASM's numbers (48k, according to Thinking Critical, who knows everything about the industry). They need someone like Rucka, Brubaker, or Azzarello to keep sales at ~60-70k copies.
>>150439923And that's actual copies bought by customers or copies sold to stores? How many of those "500,000" are sitting on shelves waiting to get dumped in a landfill?
>>150439923It didnt sell 500k copies. Only a retard believes this.
>>150443334Gosh, millennials are the most oikophobic generation in history... They are willing to eat literal shit and praise it if it's foreign instead of consuming high-quality American products. At least zoomers are much more patriotic than those morons. Sadly, they won't read comics or even normal books because they all have ADHD and their brains are cooked because of Tiktok.
>>150447046>And that's actual copies bought by customers or copies sold to stores? The latter, obviously.Stores don't report actual sales anymore.>How many of those "500,000" are sitting on shelves waiting to get dumped in a landfill?Probably half, maybe more.
>>150442923it's only been one issue>>150440199unlike Marvel, DC uses its numbering relaunches more sparingly and this one had a million variant covers so it was a big deal.>>150440317agreed, I think it's grown on me more than I'd like to admit
>>150443089>>150445389I haven't read Batman comics since King, genuinely how bad was Zdarsky? when it was first announced I thought he'd be a good fit because of his work on Daredevil and Spider-Man. how does it fare against King's Rebirth run?
>>150447046It's always B2B sales.
>>150439923is it good tough? because i read absolute batman and it was pretty bad
>>150443089>>150445389H2SH brought them back up again so that didn't matter. They relaunched because Jim Lee was unable to draw it its entirety so they thought a relaunch would give him some time. He couldn't even finish the first six issues on time. Had they not relaunched, we would be going months without a monthly Batman ongoing and that would absolutely wreck the company.
>>150440317Now looking at it, it looks like DCAU JL era Batman mixed with The Batman
>>150447057The only fags who does this are the Barney Boys aka Gen 2 Millennials born in 86-90 we see ruining everything that looks like paul and has rainbow colored poison hair.
>>150447057>big two capeslop>high quality do you get off to MCU garbage or something?
>>150448028Objectively speaking, the American comic book industry is creatively bankrupt right now, however, it still produces much higher-quality products than its nearest competitors, such as Japanese and French. 99.9% of BDs and mangas have poor artwork and mediocre writing. Most mangas are also in black and white, which makes them even less appealing because most people prefer color comics.
>>150448086Why do i feel that Cody SHitglar or a Marvel employee wrote this cope
>>150448131I don't know why you feel that way because I don't work in the industry. However, I closely observe it from the outside. I try to be as objective as possible. While I admit that the American comic book industry is indeed in a crisis, it is still in a much better situation than its foreign competitors.
>>150439923So Spider-Man is once more Batman's beta cuck bronze medal bitch again. Feeling like Spidey was created to embody always being the second place and the loser superhero of the best superheroes who always win.
>>150448086>99.9% of BDs and mangas have poor artwork and mediocre writing.Anon, a perfectly mediocre french comic series is one that gets carried by its graphics while a perfectly average Manga is one that gets carried by being a good comic book.Meanwhile, the average US comic gets carried by one of two entertainment giants that are investing to keep some old ass IPs afloat.
>>150439923>no milly
>>150445998Man I fucking wish
>>150440204absolutely, it had like 10 variant covers, PLUS "Blind bags" with foil variants of said covers.
>>150440317blue was always Batman's colorthe blue bat is new and adds something fresh while keeping in his iconic 1940s look
>>150445362it was okish backups were better than main story.
>>150440317The art is fantastic, and while I prefer Bat's suit to be black and grey, they utilize the color well here. Looks great.
The art looked unpolished and rough around the edges. I guess Jimenez was rushed to finish this or simply does not give a crap anymore after five years of carrying the main title on his back. Based on Fraction's Hawkeye, I imagine the entire run will be short bursts of self-contained mini-arcs that converge on the main thing around issue #20 or something like that. I would also expect to see a healthy dose of current day issues being addressed in not-so-subtle ways through side-characters, most likely the gay Robin Tim Drake.>picrel is a variant cover by Gabriel dell'Otto, which is the main reason to purchase this particular issue and probably never again bother with this series
>>150439923Nice
>>150450136>picrel is a variant cover by Marc SilvestriI would post the rest of the variants but I don't want to spam and quite frankly they are kinda lame
>>150439923Oh boy. Now blind boxes and blind bags are going to set the pace for the rest of the decade.
>>150441531Bro, at the end of the day, Batman and Spidey are still making more than Superman and everyone else could. Don't get it twisted.
>>150439923>Don't put in fags and trannies>People buy your bookWas it that simple?
>>150447098It broke Batman's character like King did, but in a different way, people were fine with it at first when he fell from orbit and revealed he had a super killer robot that could defeat him and the whole Justice League. But once it got into Batman of Zur-En-Arrh taking over Bruce's mind, subtly influencing him, having him lash out against his family, Catwoman being like "erm Batman bad actually", and Zur moving into the killer robot with a young Bruce cloned as his Robin, people started to tune out. I wonder if anyone even remembers his last issues, I sure don't outside that fake half-brother.It also didn't help that he was maybe too subtle with Zur influencing Bruce's mind, like how no one is still sure if Bruce was so outright evil with his family and Jason because of Zur or if that's just how Chip writes Bruce.
I just hate the blue cape and the new bat symbol. They give off very Silver Age/Adam West vibes, and Batman was terrible during that era. And from what I skimmed of #1, it just isn't well-written and well-drawn. My favorite Batman comics of all time are The Dark Knight Returns, Year One, Year 100, and Hush, so I want Batman to always be written and drawn in similar styles. I don't really buy the idea of him being a nice guy like Superman, that's all. I'm not saying he should hunt down and beat the shit out of bad guys all the time, in 100% of his stories, but that's, like, the most important part of his classic image. It's almost as if they decided to split him in two: a grimdark Absolute Batman and a nice-guy mainline Batman; instead of just writing him as he should be.
>>150450668>I don't like this because I have literally the worst taste in Batman comics, and I want Batman to be shit and terrible all the time.Damn, this is actually a ringing endorsement I might have to check it out.
>>150447098It is a fine run if you skip certain issues. The Failsafe, Bat-Man of Gotham, Joker Year One and Dark Prisons arcs make a cohesive and decent story. Unfortunately Zdarksy's tenure was bogged down by horrendous crossovers like Gotham War and Absolute Power. He also had to play ball with the epically retarded idea of the 3 Jokers and for the most part managed to tune it out of his overall narrative. The vast majority of his issue also had tremendous art, with Jimenez at the top of his game. Frequent variant covers by Jock, Dell'Otto, Quesada and other heavy hitters also helped push individual issues. It is funny to me how we went from Zdarksy to Fraction, considering they are the duo who co-created Sex Criminals, a very popular indie series published by Image. I could not get past the first issue myself so I will not be passing judgment either way but still... I think it says a lot about the creative direction of Batman comics during the past couple of years, heading into the future as well.>picrel is Gabriel dell'Otto's variant cover for issue 128
>>150450762TDKR, Year One, Year 100, and Hush have received critical and public acclaim though, most people really like Frank Miller's take on Batman's past and future, Loeb's Hush is a cult classic and one of the best entry points into the Batman mythos, and Year 100 is a great Elseworlds story, maybe not everyone will like Pope's art, but the story is really good.I'm pretty sure my taste in Batman comics is alright.
>>150450555>I wonder if anyone even remembers his last issues, I sure don't outside that fake half-brother.The character assassinations of Thomas Wayne as a cheater and Jim Gordon the Mayor's Wife-fucking Murdering Bastard are elements I'd like to see never referenced again.
gotta have my batman!
>>150450925NTA, but in my opinion TDKR and Year 100 are somewhat carried by their critical acclaim. Year One is the true undisputed masterpiece here. Hush is overrated slop but a great entry point regardless. Your taste is indeed alright, if not a little basic
>>150450925Year one is fine. I have read year 100, but isn't it an AU or a future story or something? It's orthogonal to what mainline Batman should be. Hush is fucking dog shit, it's awful and i'm convinced in mainly got as much hype as it did because Jim Lee is a honcho at DC, and its continued to last because it's an easy, limited Batman run to put on your shelf next to year one and the long Halloween.TDKR ruined Batman. Every batman story has to be about mental illness Batman now. It's dog shit, and it has brought endless secondaries like you into the greater Batman fandom convinced that a story about a billionaire who dresses up like a flying mammal in order to fight a clown needs to be """"dark"""" and """grounded."""" It's shit, your taste is shit.
>>150439923From what? troons or jews?
>>150451096NTA, but The Dark Knight Returns is the greatest Batman comic of all time. I've read Batman comics from every era and the only Batman comic that comes close is Year One. No one else was really able to get it right in terms of dark Batman since then, not even Miller.
>>150448182>AgainSpider-Man was always Batman’s towel boy, right down to getting his own walk of fame star before him.
>>150439923Dark Patterns is better.
>>150440199I think this is only the third, or at most fourth, time Batman has ever gotten a new number 1.Batman didn't even get a new number 1 after Crisis on Infinite Earths.
>>150452650So, by your own admission, you don't like Batman. Why should your taste matter at all?
>>150439923it was fine, nothing special but also not insulting which automatically makes it great by todays standards
>>150439923Like the posts above me have pointed out, these are only sales to comic shops. American comics are gonna keep struggling for a long time.
>>150448936Is this a joke? They've brought Pokemon pack gambling to comic books?
