In Transformers, Deceptions are wildly more iconic than the Autobots save for two, tree including Grimlock. Good guy toys might sell better to kids or so Hasbro says, but within the fiction and fandom it's the Decepticons who reign

The Decepticons are frontloaded with A listers where the Autobots are loaded with B-listers. The first year being like a third of the characters as the Autobots. Every single first year Decepticon became notable except Maybe Buzzsaw, where as the autobots had to compete. It doesn't help how many white or red autobots are in that first year either.
