He's Norwyn's arrogant apprentice who betrays him to learn under Shadow Weaver but realizes dark magic is whack and changes his mind.In the reboot SW killed Norwyn, and in Kyle Saga it's Dreer who takes Arden as his apprentice afterwards. With his mentor gone, there was no one to make Arden realize he was making a mistake, and so he became the arrogant, callous, and ambitious guy we see today.

So this is my version of it.He survived but was scarred for life.
