'Rainbows' are a pretty broad color scheme, anons. Not every brightly colored character is a rip-off of Rainbow Brite, but more likely just part of the style at the time, a product of the 80's where bright garish colors on Lisa Frank school supplies and multi-hued character designs were extremely common. Rainbow Brite is merely one of the most famous examples of this.

It's a shame they never went into Adora being raised with monsters (until DreamWorks made her gay for the cat she grew up with).
There's an interesting moment in the first episode, "Into Etheria", where Adora's lieutenants want to burn down a village and Leech replies to "She'd never let us" with "Who cares what she wants? She shouldn't be leading us at all. If she wasn't Hordak's favorite..."
There was this whole vibe of Hordak as a nepotistic dad and envious monster peers they never followed up on.
