Not every brightly colored character is a rip-off of Rainbow Brite, but more likely just part of the style at the time, a product of the 80's where bright garish colors on Lisa Frank school supplies and multi-hued character designs were extremely common. Rainbow Brite is merely one of the most famous examples of this.
