So, just randomly remembered this movie and I can safely say

I have witnessed peak.
>>
Agreed. I'm surprised it's not spoken about more on here

Peak movie.

This movie is pure kino man
>>
Kino movie anon, good taste
>>
Meh, a little too depressing
>>
>>150462623
It's a feature version of a student animation film and it comes across as exactly that.

It's not bad or anything but not particularly memorable and certainly not a story that benefited particularly from being expanded.
>>
>>150463197
Huh? Isn't it very hopeful?
>>
>>150463223
>Not particularly memorable
Idk bout that anon, ever since I watched that film it stuck and every now and then I rewatch it along with other gems like surfs up

But yeah the story isn't really something to expand on, I don't think it was planned for it anyways, seemed like a one and done movie, and it was PURE kino

Reminds me of More.

I only saw it in theaters, but I remember not liking it as much as I wanted to. Maybe it's time for a rewatch.
>>

Just finished rewatching this gem thanks to this thread, 9 truly is peak
>>
>>150463489
Whoops supposed to quote op whatever
>>
>>150462623
Late 2000s were a kino casino for non-Disney movies, this one gets too much hate
>>
>>150463543
>too much hate
It's just ignored, not "hated" anon.
>>
I should give this a watch again, I would be curious to know if I would like it any more as an adult.

As a kid I think I found it boring but I don't really remember why even. I remember nothing about the movie besides the aesthetic - which is why I was interested in the first place - but I didn't come out of it with a positive opinion.
>>
>>150462623
A tale as old as time
>Kino gets released
>Everyone ignores it
>Finds small cult following
>Thru word of mouth it gets popular again
>Mourn the fact that we can't get more

it is what it is, also 7 is badass, she takes a hit from this mechanical bird and just walks it off, I love her
>>
>>150463407
No I definetely think a sequel was talked about, the director says as much in a commentary IIRC. It's a decent enough film but like others said stretched a little thin from its pilot origins. Visually holds up well though, them Burton bucks coming through
>>
>>150462623
Sorry
This movie was not good
>>
>>150463768
I forgive you, you probably can use a break.
>>

To each his own anon
>>
>>150463782
What? A break?
>>
>>150462623
Goddamit this movie is impossible to search for in torrent sites
>>
>>150462623
It would have probably fared better and be more widely remembered if 2009 hadn't been such an amazing year for animation. It was up against the likes of Coraline, Up, Secret of Kells and Fantastic Mr. Fox ffs

kek, but seriously the fucking baby puppet thing that hypnotizes the dolls with flashing lights is creepy af>>150462680
>>
>>150462630
Because the story can be summed up as....

Humans use technology to invent their own doom and now the Earth can move on without humanity.

And humans do NOT like this kind of story. Humans are selfish narcissistic animals they like to think all begins with themselves. So a story that goes 'Life goes on after humans" is an existential insult to a human's ego and as such they don't feel like caring for it. Humans are wired like this.

I think the only time I've seen a media that goes "Humans are dead and extinct yay!" and it remains popular is Splatoon and even then its because the characters in Splatoon look essentially like humans anyway. To conclude with no human characters to get invested in audiences don't have a reason to care about what happens in the story.

In context it's terrifying, the dead body of your friend being used as bait to hypnotize you with flashing lights and be captured afterwards, it's kinda fucked up for a kids movie

I love post-humanity stories, though yeah they usually just end up being post-society stories where humans are still around.
>A Canticle for Leibowitz
>The Postman
>Mad Max/WaterWorld
>Horizon: Zero Dawn
I'm not sure of how many stories outright remove humanity from the setting from the outset. Maybe that "Peace on Earth" cartoon short from 1939?
>>
>>150462623
Well shit anon, time for a rewatch
>>
It was all style, no substance. The story was about as much as you can expect from a cool short being unnecessarily stretched out into a feature length movie and the characters were all kind of lame.

I feel like you are projecting to a high degree considering nine gets brought up a lot and was well received when it was released. Also the most popular topics on /co/ are about materials where humans are either not feature or are all but gone.
>>
>>150462630
it's a 16 year old film anon. You might as well ask why Monsters vs Aliens, Planet 51 and/or Fantastic Fox don't get more talk about.

>>150464129
Dude go look in a mirror, some of the most loved stories have nothing to do with humans an the idea life goes on without them isn't something that bothers them.

Not much more really, but consider that it was a meta layer story with a very interesting art style. I love nine but neither the plot nor the animations was anything ground breaking for the time. Again, though I don't see Rango get much more conversation than Nine.
>>
>>150465804
because Rango is genuinely good and not a "oh yeah that happened"
>>
>>150465875
No its not, you guys just like the western genre and that one lizard girl. Unremarkable characters, story, and shit visuals.

>>
>>150465804
I like Rango peak film honestly, in fact after I rewatch 9 I'll rewatch rango, bye anons
>>
>>150462623
9 was definitely great. You'll never know how much you truly had it until its gone.
>>
>>150466046
These people don't read opinions online except from animation nerds. It's film lovers and especially Wes Anderson fans that love Fantastic Mr. Fox, not /co/. I've never seen anyone here even talk about it despite it being one of my favorite movies.
>>
I think it would have made better as anything else other than a movie. It doesn't feel very fleshed out and spread very thin.
>>
>>150466046
The reply chain was about /co/ not the general internet and >>150466793 noted it but it still isn't any more talked about than 9 because it's a rather old film and you'll notice for better or worse most internet conversations are on what's new.
