https://papercutz.com/product/the-sword-in-the-stone-arthurs-magical-kingdom/

Fans of Disney’s classic ‘The Sword in the Stone’ both young and old will delight at Arthur’s newest adventure. Embarking on a journey filled with magic, and wonder, Arthur, Merlin, and Archimedes must overcome the greatest threat they have ever faced to save the Kingdom of Camelot.

>The Sword in the Stone: Arthur’s Magical Kingdom is a grand continuation of Disney’s beloved film, “The Sword and the Stone.” This epic journey follows young Arthur, now the rightful ruler of Camelot, as he embarks on a transformative journey guided by the whimsical and wise sorcerer, Merlin. When the powerful and malicious sorceress, Madam Mim, comes back from the great beyond, she brings not only a heart of revenge but new and powerful allies. In this tale, Arthur must grapple with the challenges of ruling a kingdom, while an evil spell threatens to rewrite history and destroy Camelot as we know it. Through Merlin’s guidance, Arthur learns that magic cannot solve all of life’s problems and is reminded of why he was chosen by the sword in the first place.

I saw no threads for this, so opnions?

She didn't die, though.

That's a bit of monkey's paw.
One one hand her not being included could be a blessing in disguise.
Either she gets a one page cameo, not brought up at all, or she's written horribly to the point we wish she wasn't there.

>>
>>150469888
Was my immediate thought and it's amusing to think of all the ways they will have to, or won't, write around that bit of Arthurian lore.
>>
This is typical of "modern reboots" of old and loved properties. Whenever it's time to renew the copyright, they hire someone who's just next in line- not some who understand what was good about the original movie. The comic should be about Wart/Arthur, not Madam Mim. Mim was never a good character anyway. "The squirrel part" was about teaching life lessons to Arthur, and in extension to the young audience.
Now that Wart has been crowned Arthur, he has more to learn about being a leader and about those who he has to lord over.
The artist can't draw Wart even for the cover, but Merlin and Mim are recognizable. With all the troubles in store for the king, why bring back Mim? And there are books about the Arthurian legends, you can go read them. There are knights and corruption. Fairies and mystery. War, like the Battle of Badon where Arthur kills more people than John Wick. The people of the land, and why farmers shouldn't be abused. It looks like the comic is going to bring nothing new, and exists mostly for those two guys who like Madam Mim in sleazy ways.
There's a large story that hasn't been touched on, even though the squirrel should get a happy appearance.
>>
>>150469799
>You think the squirrel will appear?
squirrels life span is 3-4 years in the wild but 9-14 domesticated depending on diet
so she could still be alive but much old than she was depending on how much time past and how many litters she might of had with other suitors

>>
>>150471000
>With all the troubles in store for the king, why bring back Mim?
Mim is the only character in that property that Disney actually owns. They want to see if they can use her in the villain lineup.
>>
>>150469755
Did NOT expect.

>>150469799
To me the good ending would be Arthur embracing his squirrel form, and realizing he MAYBE has feelings for Hazel too. But that is clearly not happening. That will never happen, these writers are not brave enough, and won't be allowed even if they were. This comic will not get the Squirrel Ending, no way.
>>
>>150469755
>not a story of my boy Kay growing as a person to later being betrayed by Arthur, abandoning the kingdom and showing him his mistake
guaranteed these hacks haven't read a single Arthur myth.
>>
>>150472192
To many Americans, the Arthurian legend is a one-act play about one sword that Arthur gets given twice, his wife leaves him, and he gets killed by his from-sister son.
Personally, I think that Disney would do better with Gummi Bears, but I may be biased for the princess-squire romance. Disney doesn't seem able to understand adult focus. It's not a euphemism for porn. And if it was porn, they'd still screw it up.

>>
>>150473908
As another anon said, a cameo is the best chance she has. Maybe one that shows she moved on, which would likely be a desperate attempt at "killing" the ship.

A proper role will feel out of place, unless it ends with her becoming Arthur's pet... something we know will thrive on the porn community.
>>

>>
>>150474042
Me too, but you know they are capable of that, unless they find a way to properly profit from the ship.

>>150474049
I would rather have them rip-off Fate and reveal Arthur was a girl the whole time. Neither is good, but one is worst than the other.
>>
>>150472634
Because it's an old IP Disney has and that they think could still make them some money.
Back in the day, Disney wasn't so fond of making sequels, those were usually sent straight to DVD and they stopped specifically because they thought they were shit. Now, sequels go to the theatres and get announced almost every other day.

>In the days of my misbegotten youth, I would often sneak into the local movie theater and catch the films. One of them was a Disney movie, a silly little take on Arthur, but I became entranced by it, enraptured really. And I will tell you, it was that scene with the squirrel. Everything I have ever done, all of the drugs and magick and the deconstruction of genres, were born from that scene. They are but a reaction to the pain I felt at seeing that squirrel cry and subsequently, I even now naively hope, an attempt to contact her through the narrative magicks which bind together our reality with that of the stories that we tell. That is the truth of my worship of Glycon and my magic cave. It is all to once more see that squirrel and see to it that she may never cry again.

To me, DC still hasn't lived down "I'm not Starfire."
If Papercuts can publish so many on-model Loud House comics, then they can make a Sword in the Stone comic that doesn't look like it was rejected from Decedents. (a Disney channel original movie with book/comic/etc about various magic school teens descended from the public domain fairy tales, Snow White, etc)
They have only two things to get right.
1-Artwork, and the cover is failing that. 2-Story- It has to be the continuing adventures of the new Arthur, not "just whatever". They nearly killed Star Wars with that. And not dumping in everything all at once. The John Carter movie was killed by that.
>>
>>150488105
The problem is the new girl, she looks incredibly out of place.
>>
>>150488152
She really does. I'm not usually one to shit on OCs in adaptations, but genuinely what were they thinking with this girl? Like, take Cassandra from Tangled: The Series. She's an OC that actually looks like she belongs in the same world as the other characters. They should already know how to do this.
>>
>>150469755
I look forward to the inevitable storytime
>>
>>150469853

>>150488152
>>150488219
This is an ubelieveably common trope in modern shows based on original IPs. Animaniacs 2020, The Freak Brothers, Powerpuff Girls remake and several others I'm sure, all have this problem where the main charwcters no longer look like the fit into the world because all the other characters are such a drastically different style from them.
>>
>>150488219

>>
>>150488743
One that sticks out to me is Clone High.
>>
Problem is that it won't capture the point of the movie
The entire thing was just a fairy tale version of the myth aimed at kids
Arthur was just an idiot and Merlin was what led the entire plot.
And I sincerely doubt the songs will be as good and the animation already looks like shit.

As for Hazel, it's kinda pointless to even hope she's in. Disney needs to negrofy its works now so she'll be a ghetto style bitch at best or else won't be in it
>>
>>150488868
>That and Incredibles 2, those new superheroes don't look like they are part of the same franchise.
man, the recent incredibles thread had me remembering those bozos for the first time in forever; I had forgotten all about them
I didn't even hate I2 like some anons, I just didn't like it much compared to the great first film, but remember those characters was a shock. I think their designs were my biggest issue with the film honestly, they look so weird and out of place.

Granted superheros are sure to look wacky, but the big chick and owl guy looked too far out of style, especially when you consider that superheroes we've seen before have typical (somewhat exaggerated but still) body types with colorful costume, not like what the new heroes were like. They had that new pixar design philosophy stink to them.
