Was this show ever popular? It wasn't like anime wasn't big at the time. Crunchyroll was going strong, along with shit like JoJo and Kill la Kill hitting big when the early volumes were airing. Not to mention shows like Naruto, One Piece and HxH still making the rounds. So who watched this shit?
>>
It was never good, but in its early seasons had this kind of indy-charm to it that let people tolerate its cringe. Monty’s fight choreo + the world that felt like X-men crossed with Harry Potter crossed with Naruto was like the kind of show idea you’d come up with in high school and it was fun seeing that brought to life. It lost all that charm after his passing, which is why a lot of people say it stopped being worthwhile then.

I was at the right age for this shit, but I thought it was lame because the leads were girls and it looked like crap. Thought it was gay. And I grew up with Kingdom Hearts and marathoned Soul Eater when it was on Netflix back then. Resonance was my shit. As-is, there wasn't much there to appeal to me that I couldn't get elsewhere.

That’s fair enough, and not at all untrue. You didn’t miss out on anything really, and for a lot of people being a fan of Monty was the only reason they got into it and without his choreography I don’t think the show offers anything redeemable.

The writing was always bad, but in the beginning it was due to silliness/stilted dialogue + rule-of-cool taking precedence over everything else (which was Monty’s appeal to begin with), whereas in later seasons it was bad due to pandering and nonsensical characterization which is only going to be popular to people who value being catered to over actual quality.

RWBY only works as a gateway show. It's what got a lot of people into anime back then. Thing is, I ALREADY liked anime so that shit was never gonna appeal to me. Already spoiled by the best shit.

>fight choreo
This is actually what killed it for me. The fights didn't seem to have any stakes at all, just flashy animation. Lame.

> RWBY only works as a gateway show for anime
I’m not sure I agree with that - I think it works more as a gateway show for western shows that pander to audiences. It has a surface level similarity to anime, but not the philosophy

I BLOCKED DEATH BATTLE ON MY FILTER.
STOP TRYING TO GET AROUND IT.

They don't even bleed. Let alone get fucked up bad. Why should I give a shit about your characters if they're never battle damaged? It just makes your show feel like a baby show. Battle shonen has all their characters get battle damaged. It's what makes the fights even sweeter.

The investment in Monty/old Roosterteeth was a big factor in people caring.

Cry harder, nerd. Your show sucks ass.

I can't tell if you're talking about RWBY or Soul Eater
>>

Should be obvious, autist.

That you can ask this question tells me you are lucky enough to be new here. Because there's still time to run.

Realistically, Ruby would have one-shotted Maka.
