American TV executives who still view animation as just for kids probably wouldn't have greenlit Family Guy or Beavis and Butthead if it wasn't for the Simpsons being a proven hit.
>>
>>150492984
They definitely popularized it. Prime time television was the most profitable time for television and Simpsons being an animated series that was at the time crude while still being funny showed it could be done. From there other shows either shamelessly copied the Simpsons or did their own thing while still pushing boundaries.

The Simpsons is a lot like Disney, they helped popularized adult animation in America, but are also the reason why it’s stagnant. About a third of all adult shows are just dysfunctional family sitcoms
>>
>>150492984
yes, and disney is the reason cartoons exist duh
>>
>>150493005
I like how out of all the South Park screenshots they could pick, they choose the episode where Man Bear Pig turns out to be real

All of these cartoons are writershit.

>writershit
What does that mean exactly?

1. Yes the Simpsons are why every single adult cartoon exists.
Without it the Suits and the execs and marketing departments wouldn't know that Adult Animation exists.
And if the Suits and the execs and marketing departments don't know that something exists, it doesn't exist.
You're also reading an industry rag. Which means it's basically written by a marketing department to be read by other marketing departments.

2. The Cleveland Show had a gigantic viewerbase for its first three or four episodes, helping out its tv network at an uncertain time.
The Network immediately stopped buying episodes when the final big decline began, and no money was lost.
It had top Voice Acting talent, top notch animation quality comparable to Family Guy, and despite it all the expenses were contained and there was no gigantic money sink.
The fiercest critics of the show consider it 6/10 lukewarm and mediocre, and nobody involved in the production is ashamed of any particular failure.
It came, it did what it was meant to do, it went away and it didn't overstay its welcome.

if it wasn't the simpsons, it would've been something else a few years later

Yes. This has been pretty obvious to anyone born before 1987.

They are by writers and not cartoonists

There are some funny episodes of The Cleveland Show if I'm being perfectly honest. It felt a lot more like early Family guy, rather than modern Family Guy starring blacks.

Very fascinating read, OP. I'm sure everyone's familiar with the impact The Simpsons has had on prime time adult cartoons, but I didn't realize how pivotal Mike Judge was, as well. Dude gave MTV the upper hand in the '90s while all the major networks were floundering, then he moseyed on over to FOX where King of the Hill changed the game again?? Insane...

Yes. Like it's kind of indisputable honestly. The Simpsons kicked the door wide open for animation to be considered a potentially successful medium to market towards adults again. It might have happened without them eventually, the 90s WERE a decade of experimentation and rebellion after all, but they're pretty undeniably the one that actually got things moving. It's like how the Beatles weren't the first rock band, and there were lots of other British rock bands that may have eventually broken through in America, but their performance on Ed Sullivan in early 1964 was what revived rock and roll in the mainstream again and kicked off the British Invasion.

And I'd say almost all of them (especially on broadcast) are comedies. When is the last time a fully western animated adult show on broadcast TV wasn't comedy?

Gee I dunno, if only there were context clues. Or are you that retard that keeps bumping threads asking braindead questions?
