You know what I realised about shows like the Simpsons or Family Guy? Despite being some of the longest running shows on television, their endings will most likely come across as meaningless and hollow. They're so focused on "what random bullshit can we make the characters do this week?" that they're probably not even going to realise they made the final until it's too late. The season finales of these shows are a testament to this, any of them could have ended up being the final episode period and they still seem like there is nothing special about them. Seriously, go take a look at what the season finales of Simpsons and Family Guy are honestly tell you thought there was anything special about them. You know what some of them were about?>The intended first episode Simpsons which got delayed because the animation needed to be reworked.>Peter tutors Cleveland Jr. in golf>Peter goes through a pirate phase>Bart and Lisa goes to military school>Lois agrees to become a surrogate but has an abortion>The Simpsons go to Japan>Peter gets an harmonica up his assBe honest, did you remember any of these episodes as being more important than any other random one?>But what about King of the HillWhat about it? You do realise when they thought a previous episode was going to be the final one, they just gave it an ending that would imply finality but cut it when they got renewed, right? If you cut the final grilling scene out of the (until this year) final episode, you'd still have a complete episode and the actual episode still focused on one-off characters in weird plot about meat QA competitions. If it was first and foremost intended to be the final episode and not just have a nice ending scene in case they didn't get more episodes, don't you think the entire episode would have been about mainstays and told a better story? That's the best I see Simpsons and Family guy hoping for, a nice final scene for an otherwise random episode.
>SimpsonsIt will end with some kind of incredibly underwhelming celebration. It will be after key voice actors have died and they will either use soundalikes or AI for the final season. The ending will be rushed and will try very hard to be something special, but will fall flat on its face. Fox will advertise it like it's the fucking Super Bowl.>Family GuyWill just...end. There will be very little acknowledgement within the show, but it will be advertised as a big deal. Peter will say something like "this was the last episode folks, see you in a few years when we're picked back up again". It will eventually be picked up again and Seth will sound noticeably older, and unable to do the Quagmire voice anymore.>HuluramaWill end unceremoniously because nobody cares anymore. They will assume a new season is coming and not even write a third series finale.>South ParkMatt and Trey will just decide to be done with it despite whatever contractual obligations they have. Maybe they would compromise and make a movie, but I don't think they'd plan an ending.
>shallow products of machine-line assembly writing will die meaningless and hollowno shit sherlock
Due to the longer turnaround time needed for animation this usually is the caseThe last Flintstones episode was a World War I flashback, the last Rugrats was one of those Amanda Bynes episodes, KOTH's finale was only made because Fox ordered a couple more episodes to give it a proper endingThe Simpsons and Family Guy are past the point of integrity, the only way out is to be unceremoniously cancelled. This is the way the world ends, not with a bang, but a whimper.
>>150504281Somebody screenshot this
>>150504281The last finale for Futurama was good, it just kept it in a perpetual loop.
I feel like this can be true for any long running show. When fairly odd parents finally ended it ended on absolutely nothing of any worth. Sure, it could’ve ended several times earlier, but it overstayed its welcome with such a forgettable episode
>>150506102Honestly, it seems like it was a crapshoot whether a show would get an actual finale. Johnny Bravo's last episode was about Johnny being Shaq's good luck charm.
>>150504196>their endings will most likely come across as meaningless and hollow. They're so focused on "what random bullshit can we make the characters do this week?" that they're probably not even going to realise they made the final until it's too late. Like Aqua Teen Hunger Force? Except they know their final episode. I don't blame them, Futurama has been at death's door multiple times so it eventually became meaningless
I don't think that's really a sitcom only thingI'm pretty sure Blue Spirit, episode 13 of AtLA, was intended to be the final episode ever if Nick didn't decide to fully pick up more episodes and seasons of the show.
>>150506359That's crazy
I am fairly sure if it is getting canned if they ask for one more hour of content to wrap up the series as a special event they would get it
>>150504281>and unable to do the Quagmire voice anymore.Quagmire will be written out, he'll be doing life in prison for rape.
>>150504281I’m pretty sure Simpsons actors have already voiced the “last episode” that hasn’t been animated yet. As you said they’re waiting until one of the actors die. But they have that “last episode” safe in the vault for now.
>>150508649Where did you get that info from?
>>150504196These days it feels like Simpsons only stays on the air out of fear that South Park or Family Guy might surpass its record number of seasons/episodes. There is no "series finale" any one of these shows have in their back pockets since they know there's no ending in sight.
>>150504196Female sexual harasser
>>150504196Chicago Shoe ExchangeThat was the series finale of "Married With Children" and you coudl argue it set the standard for low-stakes finales
I'd like to believe Bob's Burgers will come up with something satisfying for a final episode when that time comes..
>>150504281>Peter will say something like "this was the last episode folks, see you in a few years when we're picked back up again"Is it sad that I find that to be perfectly plausible?
>>150504196>They're so focused on "what random bullshit can we make the characters do this week?"That's the fucking point. There was a time when that's just how every show was. A show was something you sat down and watched and episode or two and moved on with your life. You didn't obsess about how each episode did or didn't "feel special" in the grand scheme of the show's identity or some faggot shit like that.Your mentality is a form of brainrot, brought on by growing up in a world where all your formative memories are parasocial bonds you created with television shows as opposed to your friends and family.
>>150509652Not really. That's the same joke they did when they came back the first time.
>>150509222A lot of their season finales work as series finales. The Great North had what is officially its series finale recently and managed to end on a great, satisfying note.
>>150504196More like family goy
Post your prediction on which character will be completely voiced by AI in a couple of years. My vote is on Minge, obvsiouly.
LUANNE IM REAL SORRY!
>>150504196Angela is kind of hot though.
most finales for tv shows are bad. i don't know why you'd expect them to be good. what is there left to say with the Simpsons characters? The fucking mary poppins episode way back in season 8 or 9 had the last real thing to be said about them.
>>150513043I prefer they don’t do a finale for the final episode at all and just make it a good episode, attempting to say something reeks of creative masturbation

Why do autists even bother to constructively criticize these shows anymore, it's an open secret that the sole reason they're on the air is money. Family Guy pretty much even admits it directly, I remember one bit where they pointed out that the modern show is written years in advance.
