Say what you want, we're all entitled to our own opinions but in my humble opinion, MAWS Clark Kent is the current gold standard for Clark atm.

>What if we just made Superman into a Fabio romance novel?
>>
>>150506828
I don't see the problem
>>
>>150506816
Wrong. The ideal characterization for Superman is a cross between Fleischer Superman, Kazuma Kiryu, Captain Kirk, and Doc Savage.

We will never get this because having a Stoic Hero is "boring" even though Japan does it all the fucking time and everyone loves it. Americans can't and won't do it for some reason.
>>
>>150506841
That's because you have a vagina.
>>
>>150506816
Jack Quaid is good actor but he sucks at playing Supes imo. Like I know with this version they're leaning in on him being a nerd but he's just way too wimpy for someone who's suposed to be the strongest man in the universe
>>
>>150506816
For me it's Dean Cain.
>b-but Asian
Don't care, I never even noticed it until it was pointed out to me. He looked like a standard jock.
>b-but politics
Separate the art from the artist, etc.

I don't know about Clark but it absolutely gave us the best Kara
>>
I kind of want to give it to Superman and Lois. He's got that kind of goofy dad vibe. Affable without being a goober but also able to be stern when shit gets real
>>
Why do adaptations keep skipping over the secret identity stuff? It's like they think it'd be either to unbelievable or too mean for Superman to be constantly duping his friends.
>>

Modern audiences are depressingly cynical when it comes to long standing traditions. Personally they should have more fun with secret identities.

It's no longer believable in the modern surveillance state and in the post 9/11 era, especially when superhero adaptations keep making the settings contemporary and modern.

The idea of having a secret hero identity has always been unrealistic, but in a time before phones and cameras and mass surveillance, you could squint and kinda see it working in a limited capacity and in the right circumstances.

I think you could make it work in a modern world but that would require using magic or supernatural means to hide the identity. The recent Superman movie did a good job by pulling that bit from the comics (Guy references it)

I think people over exaggerate how unrealistic it is myself. We pick and poke at it because we're the readers and can see it from a bird's eye view but the characters can't. The simple truth is that even with all our cell phones most people aren't gonna be fast enough on the draw and that's assuming they're even looking for it at all. More to point people will believe what they want to believe. So you're mild mannered reporter Clark Kent could dress in full regalia and people would think he's playing dress up because a god on earth like Supes? They're not gonna think he's Clark for a minute. Plus how many people think he even has a secret identity. The Kal El and Krypton stuff isn't a secret. They probably think he's just off somewhere whenever they don't see him. In fact back in the 80s Luthor was shown every bit of evidence and he fired the person who figured it out.

I hate Mexican boy Lois & Nigger Jim.

>In fact back in the 80s Luthor was shown every bit of evidence and he fired the person who figured it out.
In the Superman novel Last Son of Krypton by Elliot S. Maggin Lex has a whole slew of phony identities he uses to run scams and hide his assets, he says at one point that he doesn't bother trying to find out who Superman is because he assumes that he does the same thing and if he found one of them out Superman would just burn it and create a new one.

I'm not going to get into a back and forth with some rando who can't even express one sentence about Doc Savage or can make a connection from there, to Fleischer to James Tiberius.

When you manage to do that, I'll be happy to consider a discussion.

A come back making references to Moses, which isn't even something the a Spirk slash fan fic writer would come up with as a concept to base a story on, and falling back on the perpetual biblical allegories that make the lonely, angry bitter hearts of the most die-hard Snyder Cultist beat with excitement is comparatively idiotic given that nothing in the Fleischer or Famous Studios theatrical shorts makes any such reference to either of those -- unless you absolutely insisted on being absurd and ridiculous and really stretched to claim that ANY and ALL travelers or ANY and ALL 'visitors' (strange or not) are Moses allegories.

You aren't defending/explain your blase shit post, just making another, even lazier one.
>>
>>150508356
defend Superman 4
>>
>>150507108
Because they're made less as adaptations and more in response to the demand from people who are already aware of the characters. People wouldn't be able to handle the secret identity because they would just be waiting for it to be revealed to Lois. The new movie even outright skipped the romance.
>>
>>150508589
This current generation literally CANNOT look at a story and not in some way make it about themselves so what was once a silly aspect of the genre becomes OMG HE'S LYING TO US!
>>
>>150508935
Alphies don't work like that though.
>>
>>150506885
Dean Cain was a lousy actor.
>>
>>150508935
I have never ever heard someone from any generation say such a thing. Stop inventing caricatures to get angry at, it's genuinely unhealthy behaviour
>>
>>150506828
Isn't that what Lois and Clark was?
>>
>>150507108
Audiences familiar with the character just largely find secret identities to be frustrating, because there are not actually that many interesting things you can do with the secret identity subplot, the drama swiftly grows stale, and audiences would rather just have other characters in the main cast be "in the know" and move on to better uses of screentime.

>We will never get this because having a Stoic Hero is "boring" even though Japan does it all the fucking time and everyone loves it.
1.) kirk is not a stoic hero. dude has a reputation of being a maverick and a cowboy. picard fits that description better.

2.) stoic character's in japan like kiryu & jotaro have the personality of boulders which make it easier to for people to self insert as. they're cool when you're a kid or a shounenfag but i prefer guys like joskue, majima, joseph who have more personality.
>>
>>150509248
Kiryu actually has a lot of personality to him, he just has a face carved from stone. This is a guy with an extremely strict sense of both right and wrong, and fair vs unfair. Yes, he beats up people for money. But only people that opted into cycles of exploitation and violence. Criminals, thugs, etc. if you borrow money from the Yakuza and try to skip out on paying it back, you knew what the consequences would be when you took this deal. If you try to mug people, you chose violence and violence can be done to you in return. He has a very "live by the sword, die by the sword" morality.
But people that DON'T live by the sword? They're innocents, and they deserve to be protected. Kiryu will put himself in harms way, embarrass himself, go to ridiculous lengths to help other people find success, love, and happiness. Because Kiryu fundamentally believes that its the duty of the strong to help the weak, and that people deserve chances as long as they are willing to do better and be better.

In fact, as the later games make pretty explicit, Kiryu's greatest flaw is that he is too self-sacrificing. He takes shit onto himself even when he doesn't need to, to the point that eventually its more than even he can carry and it breaks him down. This is a guy who has lived for other people for his entire life, such that he doesn't actually have a strong sense of what he, himself, wants in life. Given the choice to do anything he wants for himself, he realizes that he doesn't even know how to begin to answer that question.
>>
>>150509248
I like Jonathan Joestar the most. He's a goofy good boy whose only moment of darkness was when he wanted to kill Dio for killing his dad.
>>
>>150506816
for me superman was always fleischer, DCAU, all star & rebirth.

>>150507222
>>150507249
i feel like clark just wouldn't be famous as other heroes with secret identities. like unless you actively read the daily planet or were on the press circuit you're not really going to know who clark kent is and even if you did you'd only really know him as the one of two people at the planet who write stories on superman.
>>
>>150509479
Jonathan and Dio had the best dynamic in the series, a true classic gentlemen’s rivalry.
>>
>>150506816
>make Clark Kent a cute wholesome anime boy
>everyone liked that
>Gunnverse made Clark an awkward down to earth dude
>everyone liked that
It's not hard, guys.
>>
>>150506841
A tranny wouldn't
>>
>>150509555
In a way that’s also what makes Superman vs Lex Luthor so great, except only Clark is respecting the gentleman part
>>
>>150507108
Because it’s the same drama every episode and it limits a hero’s ability to interact with his non-costumed cast into rote ways. I’m not saying it’s always bad, but it gets old fast. Ideal is Clark knows, Lois knows, (maybe) jimmy knows but that’s it.
>>
>>150509739
is Dio a gentleman compared to Lex
