I was one of those kids watching this over Pokemon at the time and having my taste in women irreparably altered by exposure to Lor.
I rewatched the entire series at the start of last year, it really held up nicely. Tish is still the best girl.

In addition to that, two major events had occured in the show that REALLY pissed off a lot of fans: one is that Ash lost the Pokemon League before getting anywhere near the finals, and two was that fan-favorite main cast member Brock was termporarily replaced by Tracy, who was literally nobody's favorite.However, this isn't to downplay The Weekenders. It was a great show with a good vibe that was rising in popularity—it had only just debuted a few months earlier, and it embraced the zeitgeist of late 90s western tween culture in a way Pokemon was incapable. But this was basically a case of a fresh race horse breifly overtaking an exhausted juggernaut during a vulnerable moment. Pokemon eventually reclaimed that top spot and is still in our collective consciousness over a quarter-century later. But by the same time next year, The Weekenders was cancelled.
