You know, maybe "Death of the Author" isn't necessarily a good thing.
>>
>>150519408
You obviously don’t know what death of the author means if you’re pointing to fanfiction.
>>
>>150519502
It’s technically fanfiction of fanfiction.
>>
>>150519408
Who says it is? Works don't exist without their authors. Sounds to me like people apply 'death of the author' to works with things they don't like or if they don't like the author for some reason. OR they want to 'deconstruct' it and make a show out of it. What a fad. Some people who deconstruct stuff forget that it's half of the creative process, you have to make something out of the pieces that's supposedly better in some ways than its previous form. Otherwise, you're kind of just being an imbecilic wrecking ball. There's nothing to be proud about that.
>>

I'll help you out: Death of the author just means that the creator's comments and ideas about their own story only hold as much weight as any other random audience member. If it's not explicitly in the canon, then it's not canon.

Fan ception

Isn't this the webcomic that has Dark Danny charging up a Kamehameha in Halloween Town
>>
>>150519408
Nah man all the bleedman is the world is worth it just for Grim's scene in Camp Sherwood

alex hirsch once said that all gravity falls fanart was canon.

>Death of the Author
What does it truly mean?
>>
>>150519630
And Death of the Author is abused by shippers and fanbrats who misunderstood what the point of it was supposed to mean
Almost no literary critic alive says that if the writer says it but it's not in the book, it doesn't count
It's quite literally only autists on TV tropes and Tumblr upset when the writer for something doesn't validate their head anon or canonizes something they don't accept
>>
>>150521818
its been mentioned more than once in only 10 posts, but it just means the authors intention is not the end-all, be-all of analysis

it isnt exactly obscure knowledge that fahrenheit 451 was intended to be about how modern media is dumbing people down
but its just more interesting to talk about how it relates to the dangers of state censorship
the latter point is totally unintentional on ray bradburys part, but death of the author is invoked whenever some smartass tries to argue that its actually about TV numbing peoples brains because thats what ray bradbury wanted
>>
>>150521840
This.
The original argument was that an author's INTERPRETATION and INTENT of something is just as valid as any fan reading it.

Somehow this got warped over time to mean that any deranged headcanon a spergburger thinks about something is valid no matter how incoherent and unsubstantiated it is, or that any new information an author creates after the story is finished is noncanon
None of which was ever the point and is usually abused like you said by retards angry that the writer or director jossed their headcanon years after the fact

So basically Media Literacy meme?

If the author is bad I substitute his bad with my own (which is good)
Simple as

And he fired a "Kamehameha" inside Mandy too.

Darn if the author isn’t a rule that can be abused, you drooling retard. It’s just someone drawing a line in the sand about what counts as canon. You seem inordinately upset that someone ignores an author’s tweets and interviews, because that’s basically all it applies to. Most works of fanfiction ignore some canon anyway, so speeding out about death of the author is completely nonsensical. You really are a special kind of stupid if you don’t understand that.
>>
>>150521854
>Somehow this got warped over time to mean that any deranged headcanon a spergburger thinks about something is valid
What kind of backwashed ocean slime have you been drinking?
>character is explicitly straight in canon
>shipper says they’re gay
>claims death of the author means it’s a valid interpretation despite canon evidence to the contrary
>OP takes this twisted definition of death of the author and believes it, making a thread about how it’s bad for enabling people like this
If you had a slightly more functional brain, you’d realize that bitching about death of the author makes zero sense when your actual complaint is with people misunderstanding what it means (people much like yourself)
>>
>>150519408
I don't agree with the simple dismissal of Death of the Author everyone uses in this thread. A work of art is as much in the audience as it is the author's. It means different things to different people. Or more like the original work actually spawns a myriad of different image copies in the minds of everyone who reads it with slight variations to the original which acts like an anchor for collective consciousness.
>>
>>150522297
Exactly, I don't get how this is somehow hard to understand.
Death of the Author is completely valid so long as the interpretation can utilize evidence directly from the source material to support it with little to no evidence proving otherwise. If I just make an audacious claim and can't cite any legitimate canon reason for that claim then it's just fan fiction.

How dare Bleedman freely riff on the Grim Reaper, who was clearly a character invented by Maxwell Atoms

>>150521818
The author is Maxwell and Grim is his character, thus it is the death of of the author of the cartoon
>>
Death of the author in the sense of only what's shown should be evaluated is based. That way you don't get Skittle Squad Dumbledore and Officially Married Via Tumblr Interview Korrasami.
