> It's Blockbuster night and you're going to rent some cartoon VHSes

What you choosin
>bonus: you got the blue gumball so you get a free extra rental
>>
Don't hurt me like this, Anon.

You know there was no animation section. If you were lucky they would have a couple of animated movies, but before DVD's, I don't remember Blockbuster carrying any tv shows.

It’s funny you think my older brothers would let me pick. We’re gonna watch Dusk til Dawn and The Matrix
>>
>>150520192
My blockbuster had a whole section dedicated to cartoons and anime
I rented a couple of DBZ and Sonic X episodes, Shrek, and Toy Story 2 about 20 times and ignored all the rest
I don't know why you got shit luck
>>
>>150520144
Mine only had TMNT and Skydancers. So that.
>>
>>150520240
I do remember a couple of vhs for Dragonball, but not the whole series.

Then again there were a bunch of local rental store with actual anime selection (specially with subs). Man those were the days, waiting every month for the new volume release to finish watching it. Hell, that's how I got into Cowboy Bebop, before Toonami or whatever it was released on CN. It might been Adult Swim.

the hell is a blockbuster? idgi
>>

My Blockbuster was split halfway with a Gamestop. It was fun trying to sneak games between both stores.
>What you choosin
Last I remember getting was one of the Madagascar movies.
>>
A lotta boomers in this thread tonight
>>
>you can pick out a candy
My parents NEVER let me have the candy and got angry when I asked, don't lie to me about my past.
>>
>>150520720
They were right. The candy was crazy marked up.
>>

Get it right.

Millennials grew up going to Friday night weekend rental at Blockbuster. X geners were already in in the workforce and Boomers where the ones that didn't let their kids buy candies with their rentals.

In 1999? Blockbuster had Pokémon VHSes aplenty where I lived
Nearly the entire first season
>>
>>150520144
Gotta be honest here. There so much nostalgic going to places like this. It's a shame how we're never going to live this on anymore.
>>

I swear on my life I found the full first season DVD of Billy and Mandy at Blockbuster or Hollywood Video about 20 years ago but I could never find it again
>>
>>150520192
Worked in one on the last year, they had a kids section and an anime section over next to the foreign and kung fu stuff.
>>
>>150520267
I remember this tiny indy video store in my town had an anime section long before anyone else ever really knew what anime was. But my parents would never ever go there thinking it was a seedy porn rental store.

We always stuck to Blockbuster and Hollywood who only had really tiny superficial anime sections many many years later.

That was Gamerush, Blockbuster had a plan to make a new and used games store breakaway back in 08-ish. But then Dish Network bought them and stopped all of that. Everyone's gift cards they were storing all their sold Blockbuster credit on was immediately voided. Some people had hundreds on those from years of trading in their shit.

Loooooong ago before the days of Netflix, YouTube, and AOL.....
>>
>>150520144
My Blockbuster had a closing down sale, and I completely forgot about visiting until after it ended. So many obscure titles. Still regret it to this day.
>>
My Blockbuster had a PS1 demo system with Battle Arena Toshinden in it until 2004.
>>

>what you choosin
Not my first, second, third, fourth, or even fifth choice but probably settle for something I’ve already seen a thousand times because I got there too late to get anything good. But then end up leaving with nothing because of a late fee from a year ago.
>Blockbuster wasn’t better being younger was better move on with your life and look forward not backward
>>
>>150520144
Kid's movies were free rentals at Family Video plus they had an anime section that they didn't realize was hentai.
>>
>>150523750
Ironically, the more you look at what actually caused Blockbuster's downfall, the more you learn it had less to do with the rise of Netflix and more to do with piss poor management
>Late fees count for an enormous chunk of your profit
>Cancel them for a publicity move
They'd even identified Netflix as a proper threat the moment it but just pissed themselves trying to adapt
>>
>>150523933
Late fees and overpriced snacks were most of what made the stores money.

I rented the Sonic OVA (Sonic The Movie) like 5 or so times. It was my go to rented video. So it'd definitely be the first thing I rent again.
>>
>>150520144
I don't remember what movies I ever rented from blockbuster. We did, I just don't have any that particularly stand out. I'd rent more games than movies from there, I used to love renting Sheep, Dog, n' Wolf for the PS1. I also rented out Spyro. I do remember when the apartment complex I grew up in decided to try doing movie rentals for the tenants, where you could go in to the manager's office and they had a rack of movies you could sign out. My mom rented us the anime Street Fighter movie. Boy were us kids surprised when we got to the shower scene and got our first exposure to anime tiddies.
