I'm not sure if "dumb" is the right word. Stressed to the point of stupidity, maybe? I've been a nerd for a long time and it feels like fellow fans and nerds have gotten worse at pattern recognition. I dont want to get too deep into the weeds with examples but like, people will argue references even for modern stuff like Rick and Morty. A show that wears its pop and scifi references pretty blatantly. And its not specifically that show. Anime. Any cartoon. You see it more and more. People will argue references are there until you show them the writers or director talking about it.I dont know if people are just getting dumber or people are just less happy so they tend to argue as a default.I mean...you can mention that the park in KoQ are a reference to the Disney parks and the fakeness of modern life much like the fakeness of the buildings at Epcot and people will actually argue otherwise.
>>150520381>People will argue references are thereTo be more specific, people are arguing that things do NOT have references or homage.Like people will actually argue that hellofboss has zero invader zim references and its just like...how? Viv even paid for Richard Steven Horvitz to do voices. The artstyle is similar. Literally how or why would you think that
>>150520381protip, autismOP: not everyone knows details about disney parks in the first place. just because YOU do, doesn't mean THEY do. It's not a matter of smarts, it's simply not having the same context base on trival info.Get the fuck over yourself.
Nerds used to be hungry for knowledge because they had the imagination of unfolding the unknown. This is one reason why Star Trek was THE Nerd show.True nerds aren't around anymore because the new ones are content enough with virtual reality and just their imagination, along with other carnal pleasures to keep them high.
>>150520381A lot of this is because they’re secondaries.Like someone who gets their knowledge from wiki pages and youtube deep dives. Worse, those who only watch clips and ask chatgpt for lore questions. It’ll only get worse, but you’ll always know who’s a secondary.
>>150520381>>150520874As anon says it's the Warhammer 40k effect, people don't read shit and treat the setting as trivia or memes.I don't think many people have bothered to read their codex or even a Ward book but they certainly have an opinion on it based on a video or a wiki they read.Do not bother arguing about this shit man, it's like trying to say you enjoy playing pokemon only for someone to immediately copy and paste the Vaporeon pasta, or someone being retarded enough to claim Ennis is better than Moore.
>>150520381Neurotic is more likely. A lot of vulnerable minds are becoming strongly affected by who they socialize with and how, developing personality issues that govern their interactions elsewhere.Your observation is usually a consequence of 3 things.1.Children with domineering and cold parents or students who get subjected to "cite sources" bludgeoning to prepare them for peer review based fields regardless of how good their own work may be, until they become conditioned to believe it is how all discussion works and opinion and interpretation are flawed thinking.2.Contrarians, they may or may not have a similar background to the first case to explain their argumentative nature but ultimately they're less interested in correcting anything or making others feel answerable to them, but instead subjecting others to the frustration of being stonewalled.3.Jaded longtime fans, these aren't concerned with all statements being sourced and 100% correct nor aggravating people by being dismissive, they just tire from seeing misinformation spread by fan wikis and youtubers until it becomes "unofficial trivia". Rather than correcting each case they place the onus on others to Pavlov them towards being reluctant to claim what they can't substantiate. I sort of get it though, I've seen some pretty wild claims circulate about a work or its creators based on hearsay or sentiment.
>>150520930As 40k enjoyer, I’m guilty for not reading too many Black Library books but I will always read codexes for lore.
>>150520930Ugh anon that hit home. I have 2 imperial guard codexes and the entire Gaunt's Ghosts series on two shelves. I also read a bit about astartes lore as a result, and having people come to me after playing Space Marine II with their "logics" was painful. Worst is that I link to the source material to explain, and they're like "well then why would they do it different in the game?" as some sort of checkmate.BECAUSE PRODUCERS ARE RETARDS. The original writer was even outted as a manhating feminist.
>>150520381On today’s internet, nerds are outnumbered by normies who self-identify as nerds
>>150520381Adding onto this Anon >>1505209624. Fucking normoids. Many things which were niche interests you or I or others have sunk years into from our childhoods through our teens and into adulthood, a twitter/fagbook/bluesky normie has just latched onto a month ago, and after interrogating chatGPT and reddit about it they now believe they are an expert. To fuel their pathological addiction to interaction they will now flood every forum and space they can find to share their retarded opinion on your favorite thing or to inject their unrelated normoid social media brainrot into existing discussion where it has no place.
>>150521702>To fuel their pathological addiction to interactionI'll never understand this, on the internet you can ignore them but some assholes are such colossal attention whores that they can't help but make everything about themselves in stores and events. It's sad how everything also has several layers of irony to them, it's almost as if they were allergic to enjoy something freely.
>>150520381Because the majority of people on the internet now are brown/black retarded niggers who cannot even read a comic book, so they just make up headcanons from OOC panels and memes shared on social media. They aren’t nerds. Old school needs don’t exist. They turned into autistic faggots or are preparing for the world to come. The people you try to discuss comic books with are 15 to 25 and are mentally unable to comprehend anything about elementary school level math. And they latch on this “hobby” because it’s consooooooming instead of doing.
>>150520817>protip, autismOP: not everyone knows details about disney parks in the first place. just because YOU do, doesn't mean THEY do. It's not a matter of smarts, it's simply not having the same context base on trival info.>Get the fuck over yourselfLolHere's the thing. There have always been average people that dont know a lot about much. But before the internet they used to just shut up if they didnt know something.Look at you man. You're angry at some dorks that know more than you about some stupid thing. It hasnt even dawned on you to just not care and not participate in the discussion.Internet people will jump into any conversation and tell some autist they're wrong about some shit they know nothing about
>>150520381Book smart, yet socially dumb.
>>150522319projection. nobody is jealous of your disney park autism, nigga.
>>150520429it's not stupidity, it's malicious bad-faith argumentum. They are emotionally invested in the show so any perceived slight against it is taken as a slight against them personally. So they'll defend it as they would defend their own mother.
>>150521925>I'll never understand this, on the internet you can ignore them but some assholes are such colossal attention whores that they can't help but make everything about themselves in stores and events. It's sad how everything also has several layers of irony to them, it's almost as if they were allergic to enjoy something freely.Average people get high on social interaction. They get the same good vibe autistics get from their special interests, from talking to people. They are also big social rank and class. They are aware of none of this and will tell you otherwise but both people who study behavior, acting, and language will agree with my assertion. Being part of the conversation is the point. Arguing and winning, elevating their position in the friend group is the point. These are not bugs but the point for them.Being argumentive is also a sign of depression. So its pretty typical of unhappy neurotypicals to wonder the internet looking for things to argue about so they can get a little buzz off it and release their depression just a small fraction.Funny enough, focusing on nastalgia is another sign of depression. So you will sometimes have a depressed autist go online and talk about old interests to releave unhappiness and then a depressed average person go online to argue and dunk and shit on others to make themselves feel better.4chan pretty much lives off the backs of these two types of people. I remember it being pretty common back in forum days to have like 10 average guys just make a loop through threads each day to dunk and shit on people and argue. They'd keep doing it until banned. And they'd usually get away with it for a while as being stupid and arguing in bad faith is usually not against any board or forumns rules. Its hard to prove that constantly being disagreeable has intent.
>>150522582>projection. nobody is jealous of your disney park autism, nigga. Are you sure op is projecting? Nobody said anyone was jealous. Its kind of funny seeing someone argue that Op is wrong just to argue in a thread about dumbasses arguing about shit they know nothing about.4chan of all places, especially/co/, you would think everyone could agree that some people will argue against shit just for the sake of it. Thats not really a controversial take.
>>150520874>Worse, those who only watch clips and ask chatgpt for lore questions. That's more elaborate then just watching it....
>>150520874This.Modern fandom has created a class of "fans" made up entirely of secondaries, which was fine back when those people were just fans, but now those people are the ones working in entertainment, and they almost universally produce garbage on the level of the bad fanfics they used to write back in the 2000s.It's like an entire industry made up of Josh from Eltingville Club.
>>150522705>it's not stupidity, it's malicious bad-faith argumentum. They are emotionally invested in the show so any perceived slight against it is taken as a slight against them personally. So they'll defend it as they would defend their own mother. The question then becomes, why do some people take talking about the peices of a work of fiction as insult to that work?Like how is saying Warhammer orcs partially reference the lord of the rings orcs, an insult? Why is saying viv pays homage yo invader zim in her various works, an insult? Why is talking about symbolism, subtext, and references taken as an insult? Is it some kind of ignorant snobbery about art? The assumption that all great things must be orginal? Not even Shakespeare produced from a void. There are a multitude of references in his plays to the culture of his day and from history or regional myths and folklore. Its really weird that it upsets some people. Like digging into a work you enjoy really upsets them.
>>150523348Kind of baked into modern corporate capatalism.Big corps dont give a shit about art or loyal fans. The goal is to sell 18 wheelers of merchandise to anyone. The loyal fan and the shit fan are just as good as each other so long as they buy the merchandise. Some companies have figured out how to focus on whales, but that doesnt completely fix the problem and creates a new problem where loyal fans are milked at every chance
>>150523651They must not understand how art works and think it must all be original or its "a rip off". Like people thinking Inception or Black swan "ripped off" Paprika and Perfect Blue just because of some similar story elements which are not unique to anime.
>>150523787>They must not understand how art works and think it must all be original or its "a rip off". Like people thinking Inception or Black swan "ripped off" Paprika and Perfect Blue just because of some similar story elements which are not unique to anime. Some people are also obsessed with novelty. Same fuckers thar get upset when you talk about similarities in shows are usually hypocrites and also puff up and write off other people's shows because of the ideas and stories or designs within not being novel to them.Dermott in venture brother's is a pretty good lampoon of this type of person. Always going "ppfftt" and looking his nose down at shit for not being orginal. Its a weird way to live. I dont know where people get this obsession with novelty. It'd a weird ignorant assumption to make about quality or art entertainment as a whole.Like Dermott, it often comes from a place of simmering depression. Just a general feeling unhappiness and looking for surges of excitement to distract the self. As another aside, these same type of people tend to act like various new things are the second coming of christ when they are new and fresh and then shit talk them when the excitement of something new calms down.Come to think about depressed neurotypical fans kind of suck. They really drag down friend oe hobby groups that want to use entertainment media for fun or escapism.
