Ikaris vs Carol was cool even if it's just a way to write her out of the show. Thor got the shaft again with isn't surprising anymore. Namor was cool in his episode which I accidentally skipped. This is probably my biggest issue with it, yeah, they keep pushing her as this huge multidimensional threat ONLY when she's an antagonistic force, whenever she actually fights for good, she's barely able to contain a bomb's explosion, blow up a single infinity stone or is quickly knocked out by having some missiles from Thanos' army thrown at her, granted, if she wasn't this weak as a hero it wouldn't exactly make her character easier to like, but she'd at least start being a bit more consistent for once.

Well, that's one episode endured. I hated it less than the average episode from the last season of What If? which is to say that it was trash, but surprisingly less trash than I expected. I hate the Red Guardian doing his unfunny bumblefuck shtick so much that watching Melina take him down a peg felt vaguely earned, which I guess was the point. Also the broken god valley and Blade being Khonsu's next cocksock felt incredibly forced, don't even get me started on why zombie shit apparently works on someone who can turn into ENERGY but not an Eternal.

The most painful thing about this episode was how polished it were. When it tries to be scary, it does the classic horror beats well. The pewpew lasers and energy attacks have impact. The sound design is, no pun intended, music to my ears. And hot take: I actually liked the banter between the girls at the start, it felt natural. What really lets it down is how fucking rushed the pacing is to get to setpiece to setpiece, like when Riri halfassed not going on the macguffin quest. That and how blatant the intention behind having those specific characters being pushed at the start of the episode.

In a better world all the SFX would go towards conveying a better story, but unfortunately the MCU is the one paying for them.

Shang-Chi is a complete nothingburger of a character who exists to be generically heroic and hit on by a Russian girl while literally arguing with a mute assassin and losing. Zemo had to be made retarded for the plot to even happen instead of, say, the heroes discovering him sacrificing less missed crew members. The only good thing in the episode was aquatic Atlantean zombie horror, which is completely undercut by how stupid it is the Atlanteans getting zombified even is. And again, the SFX. They ONCE AGAIN do try to gaslight you into thinking the insufferable, literal racial supremacist (she says mortals can't get into New Asgard's frathouse, only gods, until Khonsu pops out and tells her everyone's with him and she goes all girly. You are supposed to find this endearing, as if she wasn't ready to fight everyone). They give T'challa fucking JUNGLE MUSIC as his plot armour powerup to take out Zombie Thanos where Zombie Thanos somehow did better against Thor than regular Thanos. And Wanda's the villain again. Except she's also trying to fix everything. Allegedly. And she offscreens the Asgardians with her ACTUALLY godlike powers before Thor fends her off in a fight that was blatantly cut short because they blatantly blew their budget on the dumb pointless memberberry Infinity Thanos fight. That everyone and their mother pats Kamala on the back for existing is just the cherry on top of this shit sundae.

Amazing. The first episode is the best by miles so far.

Episode 4. It's a big dumb cosmic fight with big dumb cosmic people. Not much to say. 5/10 in a vacuum I guess, just feels awfully contrived to have another Endgame-style setup. Neat use of Quantum Realm-based zombies. Actually kind of respect that there is no happy ending and Kamala just gives up because there literally is no hope left.

...is what I would say if it wasn't for the sequel bait ending. Kamala still being in any position to resist after Wanda seemingly remade the world is stupid. Wanda maintaining a genjutsu over a zombified earth instead of doing anything else with that power when as far as can be determined she seems genuine about being one of those dumb well-intentioned MCU villains is stupid. Riri being alive is extra stupid. The pants on head retarded contrived ending alone lowers the entire episode to a 3/10.

I honestly feel like they're INTENDING for it to be villain gaslighting from Wanda given how frequently she reverts back into a shrieking revenant, the problem is stylistically it is also blatantly based on the Good Gal Wanda characterisation at the end of WandaVision. It is the worst of both worlds where the narrative intent is for Wanda to be doing villainous things to get what she wants, but the manner in which it is conveyed is intended to evoke Good Guy Wanda.
