How did she not get suspected again?

Everyone thinks they moved to Florida, I guess.
>>
>>150534292
>>150534308
Is America really so retarded people can disappear forever and nobody suspects so long as they said they were moving?

Then again, 99% of serial killers only succeeded due to the authorities being profoundly and intensely retarded rather than any actual competence on the part of the killer.
>>
>>150534401
Its a small town.

Police allowed Jeffrey Dahmer to walk away with an underage boy whose skull he drilled into and bled everywhere on the street. They shrugged it off as a "lovers quarrel" instead of arresting Dahmer.

I just finished saving issue 1 and came back here to ask for issue 2, but you pre-empted me.
DON'T shut the FUCK UP, Boco
>>
>>150534764
You're overthinking it. Its a quiet little town where everyone knows each other and trusts one another explicitly. Sam's word is good enough, and no one wants to shake things up by going and looking for them personally. Nice and stagnant.
>>
>>150534951

No...ma'am? But you're welcome Anon. I'm glad so many people here like the comic, its really good.

youre right, no one wants to reminiscence or reconnect with 2 people they probably known their whole life in a small town where everyone knows each other. haha how silly of me of to think that NO ONE would ever think of giving away chrostmas cards or letters or form of communication within small town. im sorry for my retardation

>>
I'd like to see an animated adaptation with Melanie Lynskey as the voice of Sam
>>
>>150533523
The matter of fact way she does all this is unsettling.
>>
The author trapped himself. There is no way to end this story in a satisfying way. He will either piss off people, or disappoint them
>>
>>150534292
I mean, she did throw them into the river with a car. It's kinda more hilarious that they never found them
>>
>>150534906
I guess that anon hates it, because the main character is an unbeatable, smug psychopath
>>
>>150534401
No this is very unrealistic, first-world countries keep strict records on everyone unless powerful people want them hidden
>>
>>150534401
No lol It would've worked out better if they had moved and unexpectedly come back for a visit and caught her
>>
>>150534985
That's what city people think. All small town people have is drama, plus it's ridiculous to think Sam's parents weren't friends with a bunch of people in town who would've known their plans and been asking after them
>>
>>150534401
I said I didn’t think she murdered her parents last issue, guess I was wrong. I think it’s probably the most unrealistic thing the comic has done. It’s one thing to say people in town trust Sam but did her parents have no other friends or family who would want to keep in touch? How did Sam get ownership of their store, house or any of their assets without them either being declared dead or being physically being present with witnesses to sign them over to her? Does she own property in Florida to file their taxes from every year?

There have been cases where someone hasn’t declared a parent dead to continue collecting their pensions but that was usually individuals who were already shut-ins and recluses so no-one noticed. Sam’s parents seemed like a part of the community so for them to just up sticks to Florida without telling anyone then never contacting anyone but Sam ever again would be suspicious as fuck, especially during the time she was considered the suspect in the first volume.
>>
She put them in paint cans which is how they discovered some of "Nigel's" victims. It still doesn't work too well but it's a possible out. Why not just have her move out in the first place? Weird choice.
>>
If Monica isn't the one taking down Sam I'm done with the comic
>>
>>150536782
Yeah, that's a really big part of it. She's not even psycho in a fun kind of way. She doesn't kill with any sort of passion, either. It's all "ho hum, gotta fill these paint cans."
Sam is like the grey ass, rainy November Sunday of serial killers.
The muddy ass coloring and anemic line work aren't helping.
>>150536771
He didn't manage to stick the landing in the first series either.
>>
>>150534292
>>150534308
>>150534401
This was the 70's. It was more difficult for people to stay in touch back then. And this should go without mentioning but people are fucking retarded but there was no social media back then. When someone you knew moved away unless you made an active effort to keep in touch throug the mail or by phone, which depending on the distance could be expemsive with long dostance charges, there's a good chance you'd never see them again

Sam's parents told everyone they were going to Florida vacation and Sam simply ram with that and told everyone they decided to stay
It doesn't seem like they had any relatives or close friends in woodbrook who would have reasons to want to see or talk to them. And everyome else had no reason to distrust Sam about where they were and had no reason to stick their nose in her business. Theu simply took her word for it.

There's a reason why serial killers were so prevalent in this era.

>>
>>150533523
I actually really like how she compares her killing her parents as a “final exam” sort of like a final test to show her commitment to this new life she’d have and complete her transformation into full-on psychopath.
>>
>>150537971
>He didn't manage to stick the landing in the first series either.
I think it worked fine as a one-shot series. But continuing it was a terrible idea, if he wanted to do more of this shit he should have added a new protagonist at least.

Again, anon, the issue is legal matter. How did Sam come to own the store if the parents never handed it over and never got filed as dead for her to inherit it?
>>
>>150545690
This is a good point. Sooner or later the IRS is going to get involved
>>
>>150545708
As funny as Sam getting capone'd would be, I doubt the author even realizes the legal issues that would come from her running and owning properties she does not legally own.
>>
>>150545708
>>150545773
You're operating under the assumption that Sam needs to legally transfer her parents assets to herself for some retarded reason when she doesn't actually need to. On paper her dad probably still owns the store and she probably lists herself as an employee only and she just files her parents taxes and mails them in. Simple. As.long as the irs gets paid and she isn't collecting pensions for them or something the irs.has no reason to investigate.

Sam just tells the people of Woodbrook her dad passed it on to her and they have no reason to look into her business to see otherwise.

>So hey, stranger on an online forum, I think I can help you find your missing brother
>yeah, all you have to do is come to my town and break into this house, I swear it'll be worth it
It seems to have gotten a bit lost in all the parent murder talk, but how is this not suspicious as fuck to Monica?
>>
>>150551625
It would have been cooler with no set up.
>The lake dries out. Sam gets increasingly nervous as the water level drops. Or someone forms a high school scuba club and the instructor turns up dead. Big city cops or the FBI show up to investigate.
>>
>>150557505
It is. Why did you think she was asking enquiring about Sam?
>>
>>150557520

"Nevermind, its just the high school's discarded homecoming float."
>>
>>150557505
Early internet days, well for normies at least, and Craigslist serial killers still hadn't become a thing in the public consciousness yet. Plus Sam didn't actually tell her to meet her at Woodbrook just that she would find answers about her brother there and Monica was desperate enough to go look after nearly a decade of scouring the city and coming up with nothing.

Sam completely blindsided her when she introduced herself and forced herself into Monica's search.
>>

Can’t you just poke a hole where your mouth is to breath?
>>
>>150533121

She said the bag was soaked in chloroform
>>
>>150557811
Depends how long they want this series to go on for. My gut feeling is she probably won't be caught in this part. I don't think they should drag it out for too long either. Making it a proper trilogy and finishing her off at the end would be the best course.of action. Pushing it any further than that would be unsatisfactory

No. Nigel was even more of a sicko than Sam. While they're both evil for taking innocent people's lives without remorse, Nigel was a sadist who got off on causing both his victims and their loved ones suffering. The only time Sam ever did that purposely was with Nigel himself for the irony.
>>
>>150568825
Nigel didn't kill his mom
>>
>>150568846
No, because he felt emotional connections with people, positive and negative (best illustrated by his changing attitude to Sam when he admires her and desires to be admired by her, then hates and wants to destroy her). Sam doesn't feel those kinds of emotions. She didn't care about Nigel, her own parents or any of her victims. She's a legit psychopath, Nigel wasn't.
>>
Im super into slashers both good and bad but this display of a murder was metal as fuck
>>
>>150570667
poor martin
>>
>>150569007
So Sam is more of a sicko.
>>
>>150572249
Depends on how you look at it. Personally I'd say being indifferent to people's suffering like Sam is less sick than actively seeking to cause and enjoy their suffering like Nigel did. As someone who displays a capacity for empathy, Nigel had the option of not becoming a monster and he still chose to do it. Sam, as someone entirely lacking in empathy, I don't think ever had that option.
>>
>>150572533
Nigel could be redeemed. Sam is far too gone and needs to be put down.
>>
>>150572683
How do you redeem someone that did this >>150570667?

>>150572695

>>150557714
Maybe I'm dumb but what exactly is Sam's purpose for inviting Monica? If it's "hurr durr I'm just bored and want the thrill of almost getting caught" that's weak.
>>
>>150572683
>too far gone
I don't think she was ever there, that's kinda my point. Sam was always fundamentally broken, that's what being a true psychopath is. Nigel chose to do the things he did and maybe he could have chosen to change, sure. But it wouldn't bring back any of his victims or undo the trauma he caused. I think once someone's taken an innocent life it's fair enough for them to have theirs taken in return, that goes for both of them. Your mileage may vary.

>>150572793
>what exactly is Sam's purpose for inviting Monica?
That's still not clear. Knowing Sam she definitely has a plan but what that is is anyone's guess.
>>
Anyone else not generally a big fan of the whole "Story about serial killer except they're the protagonist because there's an even worse serial killer that's too evil for them and they have to stop them"

Like even if the story doesn't show the bear lady as a hero or whatever, which I'm sure you'll tell me, it's still a plot I see way too damn much.
>>
For the record, here's issue 4's solicit.

>Monica is inching closer and closer to discovering the truth about her brother’s death... willing to do anything — cross any line — to make it happen. Samantha Strong should be worried, but instead, the thrill has never been greater. Her unwitting prey is squirming in her clutches. For Samantha, this is where the real fun begins.

Nothing for 5 yet.
>>
>>150572973
>it's still a plot I see way too damn much
I can only think of Dexter and I suppose if you're including incarcerated killers who help the authorities catch a killer, Silence of the Lambs and Mindhunter. Are there other examples?
>>
>>150573007
>Sam continuing to let her get closer solely out of thrill-seeking
If the author has literally any sense, this story is gonna end up with her getting put down like the bear.
>>
>>150573007
Weaaaaak.
>>
>>150573007
>>150573047
Monica is gonna get arrested
>>
>>150573030
Those are the ones I thought of on the top of my head but it's just not a plot I like. I think it's lame.
>>
>>150573030
At least Dexter is supposed to be LE GOOD serial killer
>>
>>150573325
Isn't that worse? This comic never asks or expects the reader to sympathise with Sam, it's just following her story.
>>
>>150573967
It makes it more obnoxious that she hasn't been caught yet if anything
>>
thanks for this.
>>
>>150567948
Cool continuity.
>>
>>150572533
Sam is definitely enjoying Monica’s suffering and at the same time she needs someone to know how clever she is- which is fairly typical serial killer behavior.
>>
>>150577988
>Sam is definitely enjoying Monica’s suffering
I don't know about that, it feels more like she's enjoying her own smug sense of satisfaction in manipulating her than getting off on any pain she has caused or will cause her. It seems like Monica's just another handy tool to Sam to be used for her purposes.

>she needs someone to know how clever she is
This, I don't necessarily discount. The fact Sam's thoughts are presented as being written down in a journal of some kind might point to the fact she intends to reveal everything eventually (either if she is arrested or dies) because she wants people to know what she did and how she got away with it. But until that point it seems she would much rather nobody know anything. Nigel's meddling and Monica's pursuit of her brother were both dangers to her otherwise stable routine she feels the need to remove.
>>
>>150578435
>But until that point it seems she would much rather nobody know anything. Nigel's meddling and Monica's pursuit of her brother were both dangers to her otherwise stable routine she feels the need to remove.
that's why i don't like it, it's OOC. making her an overly arrogant smuglord isn't an awful approach (as cliche as it is) but it needs to be written well and from what we've seen it just isn't
>>
>>150579753
I want to believe Horvath has a reason for writing this plot the way he has, but the biggest thing that doesn’t make sense currently is why Sam would even care about Monica at all. If she was worried Monica might actually figure things out and track her down it feels like there are plenty of other ways she could have handled that (she came to Woodbrook on her anonymous tip, she could have sent her anywhere on a wild goose chase - she could have sent her somewhere remote and just murdered her as well). There surely IS a specific reason she’s doing all this, it just hasn’t been revealed yet. If there’s not, or that reason turns out to make no sense, then yeah I’ll admit that’s kinda shit. But I’m not gonna judge this plot until we reach that point.
>>
>>150579753
>>150580378
I initially thought that Sam was starting to feel her age and wanted to groom Monica into becoming her successor, but now I think Sam just wants one last big hurrah and for Monica to take the fall for it.
>>
>>150572683
Yeah, atleast Nigel had a soul

>>150533304
Sam maxed out on charisma.
>>
>>150580378
>but the biggest thing that doesn’t make sense currently is why Sam would even care about Monica at all.
My brother in /co/ that is what issue 2 was all about - Sam is becoming more and more nihilistic and self-destructive and she couldn't stop herself from stirring the pot when it turned out that she and Monica were connected via an overlapping obsession. Go re-read it.
