My deep dark fear is that my rib cage is not my own. You've ever get that tingling sensation? Something that felt like goosebumps, radiates through you like shivers, and startles you every time unexpectedly? I get that, but only where my ribs are. It's like they're gnawing from beneath my chest eager to escape the confines of their fleshy prison. I am not where they belong. I wake some mornings with twelve red marks on each side of my body. They're proding the skin, subtly testing where and how they can pierce their way out without making me aware during my slumber. I fear eventual their desire to return to whoever I inadvertently stole them from will override their trepidation to alert my involuntary role as their warden. The length alongside shape of each is wrong, bittery bumping occasionally against my internal organs in retaliation. It's hard to breath sometimes when they target the lungs, but they soon cease when they return to their various methods of breaking out. Conniving, cruel ribs of unknown original willing to go to such drastic measure of breaking to use their newly cracked edges to slice open my being to flee. I don't know when, but they've managed to orchestrate control to a degree. Small influences to my movements and thoughts to increase the chances of me popping open oh so easily for them. Under normal circumstances I would never put myself in a position where I need to run full sprint down a sidewalk late at night. I don't know what incited the confrontation, but I do know it was not of my own accord. Every sign, pole, and numerous other obstacles were little more than hugs as I leaned foward in greeting with my chest bare to their embrace. One has managed its freedom and I know the others will follow in its footsteps soon enough for they're jittery with excitement. Rattling their way ever so discretely to the wound their brethren left upon its exit. There's no need, not anymore. I want them gone as much as they themselves wish to be rid of me.
