>Hahaha it’s funny because it’s Elvis and he's such a fatass!.
Why were 90's cartoons so obsessed with Elvis? Did kids back then even know him? Was his music actually good?
>>
>>150552045
So you know how chicks nowadays were obsessed with k-pop and before that it was boy bands? Well Elvis was the predecessor to that.

I swear this is like the 10th time I've seen this thread. Do you think you're going to get different answers or something? What compels people to do this?
>>
>>150552129
bot or schizo, take your pick
>>
>>150552136
If someone made a bot to post this they might as well be a schizo because what does this accomplish? Repeatedly asking why Elvis was portrayed in popular culture is such a completely irrelevant and benign thing that making a bot to constantly post it somehow seems even MORE schizo than constantly making the same thread.

>Was his music actually good?
They didn't call him The King for nothing you daisy wristed pizzle sucker.

Him and Nixon were the big laughingstocks of the 90s. Watch any cartoon of that era and you will see them.

What modern musician is there today to parody?
>>
>>150553612
I was going to say Taylor Swift but then I realized there's nothing really about her to parody, she's too bland. I guess you could make fun of how statistically something like 85% of the songs she's written are about her relationships?
>>
>>150553612
idk whatever soundcloud rapper is popular this month?
>>
>>150553634
Get with the times, Sabrina Carpenter is the new Taylor Swift.
>>
>>150553672
Ok, replace the name "Taylor Swift" with "Sabrina Carpenter" in my post and literally nothing changes.
>>
>>150553612
there's no modern music zeitgeist. everyone listens to old shit or whatever they want to.
>>
>>150553612
There was that rapper who obsessed over a dead 13 year old he had in his car.
>>
>>150553697
There was some study recently where they broke down streaming numbers and found that rock was still the most popular genre across generations, but the average age of a rock album being listened to was like 40 years old. It's really bizarre to me that there's still such a demand for a genre that seems to get no mainstream promotion with contemporary acts.
>>
>>150553734
You would think kids would go out of their way to create more rock instead of soundcloud rap.
>>
>>150552045
>noooo stop making le fun of fat fuuucks
Why are neocons like this?
>>
>>150553612
Idk there's not really an Elvis or Michael Jackson figure right now. Their larger than life personalities made it easy to make parodies off of them. You don't see any artist stick with an image like MJ or Elvis did. They always have to change so people won't lose interest.
>>
>>150553848
It's easier to have a beat and make a rhyme based on your urban life than to get at least 2 other people, practice with them daily, write unique songs so your band has an identity, get gigs to play, maintain instruments and whatever else goes into it.
>>
>>150553734
The common theory I've heard is that bands are too hard to manage so the music industry doesn't promote them anymore.

If you want to call him a musician is up to you, but can't say he hasn't done a good job making himself into a living parody.
Guy might as well be a lolcow, lmao.

Real shit?
>>
>>150552045
why do you do this
>>
>>150552045
Elvis basically faded from most public conscious by the late 60's except for some diehard fans. The music landscape changed a lot. By then, the earliest Elvis fans had started families themselves, and Elvis was more a relic of the past- people still remembering his slick 50's look
So when Elvis had his big comeback in the early 70's, there was a bit of shock because he was now far from the legendary suave greaser type immortalized in film and talk from his olderfans, So for many people, seeing this fatter, flashier, gaudier Elvis was quite jarring. And because it was a satellite broadcast, new tech at the time, the show was a huge deal.. So it became this big cultural touchstone for those who grew up back then and saw Elvis live for the first time.

what about Johnny Bravo?

>>150553612
Micheal Jackson was a textbook lolcow in his latter days. Elvis might have been one of this.
Probably the last one (outside random feud-happy rappers) was Britney Spears. But man if their family were big cunts that made stuff less funny
>>
>>150554003
I mean, even if there were, chances are people wouldn't joke about them to the same degree. I had a music teacher who said Michael's story could only happen in America, because only in America could a black man become a white woman.
Something like that would piss just about everybody off nowadays, and somebody in the content creation pipeline will see anything that even touches the subject to be courting controversy.
Every musician will have something like that. I think the last big musician who people felt free to make fun of was Justin Bieber.

Ye doesn't take his meds because it'll impact his musical talents.

Then there was also the circumstances of his death plus the legends that came after it

>be Elvis fan in the 70’s
>see him live on TV
>he looks weird and old and fat now
>”Hey, this show ain’t no good”
>shoots TV
>>
>>150552045
Gen X writers/artists were kids at the time when Elvis got fat and eventually died. So they were harnessing 'muh childhood' when they made jokes about him. For kids in my generation born in late 80's, Elvis was a caricature no different then Colonel Sanders that had music your parents liked.
