Why did they get erased from comics when the Marvels movie and Carol and Kamala's comics bombed way harder?
>>
Because they didn't have a SAG strike dragging them down
Also they don't have a billion dollar movie like Carol
>>
Marvel never knew what to do with them. For example, Marvel only figured out why the Deviants even existed AFTER the movie came out. And between the movie and the very first issue of Kirby's Eternals, there only been in the ballpark of ~50-55 issues of Eternal (even counting the Chuck Austen title which had almost nothing to do with the concept).

The Gillen comic was only because of the movie and once the movie bombed, they pretty much canned it.

eternals are good as c-listers or d-listers, they can't be b-listers like inhumans (you know those fantastic four supporing characters)

The Eternals have an interesting lore and some interesting characters but they have no memorable stories. Uranos in his infancy as a character was more memorable than every single Eternal.

Like >>150556227 said Marvel has always struggled with them. DC also struggled with New Gods for many years although not to the same extreme.

More importantly the Eternals was clearly an expensively made movie and not just another piece of shit on the assembly line so its failure stings more

Honestly they seem hard to write. They are are so OP that deviants barely register as an inconvenience. They pretty detached from regular stuff. Yet so tied to the earth they can't just do cosmic work either.

>Why did they get erased from comics
Let's be honest about something
Jack was an absolute machine at art but he also aspired to tell epic tales while proudly remaining functionally illiterate so he assumed it was all people in costumes striking poses and randomly emphasizing words

Marvel never knew what to do with them because they were originally intended to take place outside of the Marvel Universe and for some reason someone decided that Kirby should integrate it more into the Marvel Universe.

On top of that they killed off the Eternals in the comics in favor of replacing them with sort-of MCU-synergy versions and it ended up being a disaster because the movie did badly.

nice art

....does anybody actually miss them?

If not for Starlin bringing Thanos back to life around 1990, no one would really know what an Eternal is. They never featured much at all except to be Thanos' origin.

The Eternals was 100% only a movie because Snyder was planning for the New Gods to be the centerpiece of the DCEU and Marvel wanted to kneecap them by making it look like some kind of rip-off.
