Pilot would've worked wonders if it was just John Rose or John Dave talking about the game and whatnot as it ends with him discovering the meteor. Jokes should've been the main focus, scrap the entire Dad fight or at least not make it so over the top (Dave vs Bro should be over the top, not this), and yeah it would've flowed a lot better as a pilot and for the newer viewers. If they plan on making it a series then this would obviously be expected of the first episode, but even then it's not like we can't just do that for the Pilot right?

I just watched it and wow. It's a pilot alright. Okay it wasn't good at all. I was expecting something that actually looked like we were playing a game, but voice narrated. Maybe something that looked like a lets play video, with occasional narrator commentary for the stupid, silly choices that people would put in back in the day. Plus, you can tell its a Vivzie pop production because they swore at least every other time. In the original comic I remember them swearing only occasionally for comedic effect, with Karkat just losing his shit every so often. John felt like a regular edgy teen when he was supposed to be kind of a goofy kid. Dave was supposed to be at least seven levels of irony deep, with a too-cool-for-school attitude, Rose... well she felt okay. Jade too. If I hadn't read Homestuck bad in the day, this might have been more interesting to me as something interesting and quirky. Since I have, this just doesn't give me that same interested tingle that I once had where I wanted to see something unique and fun. The animation was nice at least. I'm hoping that they redo the pilot with an actual ep1 if it gets picked up, and they read through the feedback but this has vivzie pop on it so I doubt it.

I read the first two acts of Homestuck today so I'd know how good the pilot's adaptation is.The comic is pretty fun, but the pilot's weak for basically every reason other people have said.Its biggest problem, I think, was simply trying to cram it into 11 minutes. 20 minutes might have made it comprehensible, but you'd still lose a lot.Act 1 is structured like an adventure game, where John has a simple goal (get the Sburbs beta), and a million little puzzles to solve to get it.The charm is in those little puzzles, like the inventory management autism and all the goofy shit in John's house. It's very much like flavor text in a point-and-click adventure.The pilot tries valiantly to show that, but it's simply not enough time, so you have a really barebones plot (John finds the disk, then sees a comet), and it goes through every other element so quickly that there's no time to find it interesting.

Everyone who has read Act 1 remembers the Dave meteor rant but if they animate that it's gonna be three lines of dialogues in the span of ten seconds at best.So, overall, meh.
