Those Minnie threads got me thinking. What are some other rubber hose girls you like? The more obscure, the better.
Watch Room Runners (1932)Also Office Boy which came before
>>150604757Nice.
I also like the hippo girls in these shorts.

>>150619361They didn't, Disney literally called Ising out on that. Foxy was killed off in his third short in response and replaced by Piggy. Then TTA brought him back to life and changed his design pretty heavily.

>>150610994>>150619361>>150619524I like how the Tiny Toons versions actually look fox. If they had just changed their designs more, there probably would've been more shorts.

>>150626860Not as cute as you, UwU~
>>150609631Who is she
>>150626900That was the REAL issue. They were too derivative so afterwards they made a cast of new characters to workshop, one of which was Porky.
>>150626900You and Anon are talking about different designs and not understanding it. You're talking about the Tiny Toons redesign, he's talking about the original 1930s design. That original design is just Mickey with furry ears and a tail, this one changes proportions and face details to make it slightly more unique.

>>150630804This is a different character, I don't have a digital drawing of Taffy yet.
>>150603739Why animators use this kind of character design though?
>>1506334311, back then they didn't have movies in color so you could only do black and white.2, it was relatively cheaper and easier to animate rubber hose characters.3, it was less offensive to see a cartoon mouse and a cat get into a fist fight than footage of real humans.

When exactly did the rubber hose style die out? Because you can still see elements of it in late 30’s Disney and Fleischer stuff.
>>150635473Don't want to add TOO much detail there

>>150610994>>150619392>>150620879Damn I wouldn't mind them coming back for shorts that are like those recent Mickey ones. Never heard of them but I haven't watched classic WB since Boomerang went away on TV. Never really took a deep dive into the history of animation with all the studio politics and actual old Hollywood stuff going on as well as how these studios got started in the first place and the names like Freling, Ising, Schlesinger, Iwerks, etc. Anyone know a good podcast or channel that goes in-depth into old animation history? Also kek, I watched the one Foxy short and it is literally the song from Roger Rabbit. Never knew that song was not made for that movie and was a WB song. Man Disney really for some reason got less of a focus from that movie and WB even if they weren't making it, Zemeckis and crew sure spotlighted WB stuff more. I feel like shorts could add to the theater experience but I dunno.Do people think most theaters will become like those sit down restaurant places? I mean with streaming, theaters have to make themselves quality over quantity now. Exclusive shorts could maybe help? I dunno.

A dame like that sure is easy on the eyes, but is she comedic? >>150675569Follow-up to this post but it was further enlightened to me that the Foxy and Roxy characters were BEFORE Animaniacs. As they were the starting point for them to come up with the Animaniacs. So they were a proto version. How did I not put that together? I kinda wonder if they should make a new short and have Foxy and Roxy be some like old mentors or something. Also man...Joe Alaskey's voice was so good. I really should also do a deep dive into all the history of voices of the major characters of companies and a history of gags as well in cartoons like the first time somebody uses a bottomless hole or paints the wall into a tunnel.
>>150677358Cute!

>>150634160not weird enough
Honestly, if someone made a movie where it's a roadtrip with several rubberhose characters going across country in order to make it big in their own ways like one wanting to go to Hollywood, another trying to sell their inventions, and another trying to just chill out and see the country during the Depression would be an interesting premise. One couple, an inventor, and maybe an advertiser. I dunno, maybe this premise is played out. They can be anthros.Just add gags and scenes along the way that have characters recur and show how these main protags are positively affecting good people and stopping bad people while having the ending be after they have acheived some forms of their dreams, they all get back together and see how long they stuck together is what allowed themselves to drift apart and then come back. It was the dedication to the craft so to speak. They disconnected and reconnected and even if they had tunnel vision on their selfishness it didn't impact everyone terribly all the time. Maybe some surreality like Dali paintings and a huge black and white desert scene in pitch black night with only the moon visible would be cool. Some gags would be focused mainly on characters reappearing through sheer coincidence/fate/luckiness/unluckiness, finding all sorts of different jobs and getting hired and fired, and doing more dubious things in order to survive.A lot of rubberhose stuff has those themes and a feature length one, while most assuredly would be expensive, would be absolutely soulful nowadays and relatable.

>>150692716Ok then. Maybe I will check it out then. More interesting sounding now.>>150610994Man I just watched the full ep. Damn they are so cute. I get this way when I watch Roger Rabbit again. Like the type of magic you get when you watch a movie as a kid and get totally immersed. On one hand Animaniacs is undeniably good and fit the 90's. On the other hand, a more strict interpretation or setting that only takes place within that era with these three characters would be welcome in my eyes. If they made a series about them instead of the reboot that would be nice. Or a series on them trying to adapt to the modern world, a continuation of where they were in that Tiny Toons episode could also work. In fact, the setting Roger Rabbit made with cartoon characters trying to make movies would also be interesting except get rid of the live action humans and just keep the cartoon ones. Or just have them be performers that roam the country like a circus/standup act and take up different jobs like the old days. Also them misinterpreting 90's slang was cute.
