What are the best single issue comics you have read?
>>150607279Not the best but I liked this Thunderbolts annual.
>>150607279Hard question.I hate tom king but that issue with batman and swamp thing was goodSame goes for his winter special for swamp thing.I really liked batman/planetary one shot. Same goes for batman 700 and batman the return.Same goes for new avengers issue with doctor strange and his blood magic spell from hickman runI really like ultra comics the one from multiversity. I know is a cliche but I like dc rebirth once shot, seeing pandora explodes into guts is funny, also wally and barry hugging build is amazing.I like that murder porn inssue that is uncanny avengers that issue were scarlet witch (magento's daughter) is killed by rogue. Also any issue from kangpocalypse now.
New Avengers Annual (2013)I just love the art. It’s so good
>>150607524Are you the anon that posted the Dr. Strange thread the other day? Because of that thread this issue is in my reading list. It really looks gorgeous
>>150607279
>>150608277This is also my choice. Honorable mention Fantastic Four V1 #51
>>150607279Asm 33, but that should include 31 and 32 as well
>>150608418Retard.
>>150607279Hot take: Hawkeye is one of the few guys to have a good tacticool costume.
>>150608632No, my tastes are proof that I'm not
Im still kinda new to comics rn but.Absolute batman #6Its has this adrenaline going through it.
>>150607279The comic that made me fall in love with comics was Infinity gauntlet #5.But the most influential was a comic that I never forgot. It was a 4 for one comic that my Aunt bought for me. It was a small batman comic a one issue dealIt was a story about a mad bomber who was blowing up things across gotham. He was confounded by this until small explosions started happening next to him. He followed the trail of explosions back to their lair...finding that the mad bomber was a young black woman who was kept sedated in a hugesuit ofarmor. He defeated the people using her but found out too late that the armor wasn't a prison. It was what was keeping her powers from killing her.He flew back to her to find her sitting watching the sun. She was happy, she told him the truth and that she didn't want to live as a weapon in a prison any longer. She asked me to hold her and that the small bomb was beginning to blow up in her head..her powers were killing her. She didn't want to die alone and scaredHe couldn't save her only hold her as she passed away. ...I never forgot that story. That humanity in comics and I never actually saw that batman again. It was all beating people up and gritted teeth as he punched out serial killers that he helped create and protected. ...My aunt...many many years later had a brain anyurism. She went into a coma she never came out of. A moment of anger and it happened. A small bomb went off in her head. I never forgot that. I never forgot the fragility of life and small hope we give and find in each other in the darkest times. I wasn't there when she left this world. Ididn't hold her hand or. Anyway. That's the most important comic story to me.
>>150608797>Im still kinda new to comics rnOk>but Absolute batmanYikes>#6Shit> adrenaline...I know Zdarksy exists, but he's a meme. Scott Snyder is the worst thing to happen to Batman in decades. Full stop. He couldn't just create a new character because he knows people would have dunked on all his ideas.
>>150607368>I hate tom king but that issue with batman and swamp thing was goodWorld's greatest detective spends half the issue trying to identify the killer who mysteriously shot a man in the head twice. Turns out it's the villain whose signature is shooting people in the head twice.
>>150608977Let's give it up for the amazing storytelling of Tom King everybody!
>>150608694OP said single issue comics.
The one where daredevil is doing detective work desperately searching for a kidnapped little girl only for spideran to stumble on the bad guys and save her first. Don't recall the exact issue, but I think it was marvel knights era
>>150609115Forgot pic
>>150607607I think that was well over a week ago now, but yeah. I’m happy just reminding people it exists at all, it impressed me deeply when I first read it.
Fanfare had some good ones
One of my alltime favorites is uncanny xmen annual 11.A nice one off whose ending made me think of gurren laganns ending
I also love green lantern volume 4 issue 50Black lantern spectre vs hal jordan + parallax, I am sucker for these kind of fights, also all of them hate each other.
Detective Comics 821 - The Beautiful PeopleBatman investigates a crime ring involving well-dressed muggers attacking various members of Gotham's high society. Written by Paul Dini and drawn by J.H.Williams III
Do Not Fall in New York City
>>150607279Didn't even have to think about it
bump
>>150608971Zdarsky and King are still worse than Snyder.
>>150609736I LOVE how Bruce is drawn in that issue
this is cheating I admit but I have a certain obsession with coda issues. The wind down from events. The breather before shit picks up again. I always find them a weird mix of comfortable and melancholic.
>>150610153One of the best Punisher stories ever told
Here Comes Whiteman.
>>150616825How is it cheating?
>>150617774Just covering bases. They sort of rely on the event that preceded it
>>150608971Shut up faggot.
>>150607279When I was a teenager this shit was the coolest thing I had ever seen. I remember realizing I could pirate comics on my phone and just wasted my entire physics class reading this run, but this first issue in particular was what got me back into comics after those Marvel adventures comics stopped for whatever reason.I will accept full mockery for being a filthy zoomer
Thunderworld was good too, but I really like Pax Americana.
>>150608687Hawkeeye is basically a mall ninja character anyway, so yeah.
>>150607279>What are the best single issue comics you have read?Issue 5 of Moon Knight 2015, "Scarlet", better known as "the one that's basically 'The Raid' (2011) as a comic book"
>>150618162I really want to see Morrison do a fuller Shazam book
Between this and the Silver Surfer job hunt issues Jim Starlin sure had a thing or two to say about a thing or two
Certainly not anything from Fraction's Hawkeye
Rite of Spring
>>150618482I could think of a couple people I'd like to do a book in this style, but it'll never happen.
>>150618697I need to grab these trades.
>>150618942The old trades for Saga of the Swamp Thing were first comics I bought with my own money as an adult.
>>150607279We talking about ''A'' comics to read?
>>150607279As far as one that works completely on its own? The Only Good Skrull.Even if you have no idea about the Initiative or Secret Invasion, the plot's simple enough to grasp. For what's more or less just a glorified origin story, it stuck with me.Even knowing what happens, I still love it.
>>150618616It's a great read through-and-through, but that's gotta be the highlight. I do have a soft spot for the climax, though.
I'm going to cheat with a 2 issue story just because I love it that much. Night of the Laughing Dead in Steve Gerber's Man-Thing.A circus clown shoots himself in the swamp, and his ghost forces Manny and the supporting cast to reenact his life and the events leading to his suicide.
>>150620265I want them to bring him back so much. It's the perfect time with the breakdown of the Kree/Skrull alliance.
>>150620333It's very much something I appreciated more as I got older
>>150618482I will add darkseid war captain marvel issues, those two issues are good.Same goes for green lantern and negative superman issues.
>>150607279what is single issue mean anyway?
>>150621807A floppie 24 pages, or 48 pages or 54 or 72 pages.
You guys are so stupid.
>>150622541You is the so stupid.
>>150610153For me it's
>>150607279I was always fond of this one, shame about the author
>>150621921Right but specifically do you mean a stand alone story or can part of a longer narrative count
>>150622541No u
>>150623879Darkly hilarious to see a Gerard Jones comic where the cover is a tall man and a smaller cowering woman
>>150607279Not this
>>150624002Could be either
It was not a compliment
>>150607329Omni-Man in the thumbnail
>>150626461Wdym?
>>150626990The issue was a somber and beautiful farewell between Usagi and Tomoe Ame involving the Japanese Tea ceremony. One of pages was edited as a gag in the story time threads.
>>150618162This one gets my vote
>>150607279Bump
>>150607279You just posted it.
>>150631917https://youtu.be/1CwMcDXiet4?si=lCXv9b6sYfIIjT1v&t=13
>>150627272That bitter, huh.
>>150607279Are single issue comics the best kind of comics?
DC's Death Metal Secret Identity one shot almost made that whole dumbass event worth it. Superboy Prime of all characters getting a story like that in this year is pretty wild in itself.
>>150633501No. Nothing beats a good multi-issue arc or limited series.
>>150607279People seem to love these
>>150633567>>150633501Longer stories told through episodic piecemeal.
It's not high art or anything but it's probably the funniest solo issue I've readJust pure rapid fire comedy even for the series' standards
>>150607279Single issues? Yeah their the best!
>>150633700Sandman is overrated
>>150633567Casual spotted >>150633720This
>>150616825This was a great issue
>>150636425Nah, that would be the swamp thing by "el alan moore de las tiras cómicas"
>>150638648Swamp Thing is better than Sandman.
Single Issues make the world better.
>>150636976>Casual spottedNo. I've read a ton of both. Limited series are just better.
>>150639921>Limited series are just better Reddit is down the hall, buddy
>>150607329I have this issue! Is one of the first comics I bought back when I was in collegue! This was a fun read for sure
>>150640030And?
>>150641928Head that way
>>150642499Why would I? So I can run into more butthurt retards like you?
>>150607279Single Issue are so unheard of to me. How did this concept happen?
>>150645028Shut the fuck up. You're 100 posts deep into the thread.
>>150616825I hear you. I could read about Avengers picking their roster all day long.
>>150646104Those issues are fun.
>>150645966you hate america!you love the terrorist!!
pic related is probably cheating
>>150646272The topic said issue not story.
>>150633700swampy is good
>>150608971Oh shut the fuck up, I hate Scott Snyder as much as the next guy but Absolute Batman is the best he's been in decades. When Snyder lets go of decency and just starts writing the most retarded shit in the planet because of rule of cool, that's when he writes good shit, like Absolute Batman
Amazing Spider-Man 500 is one of my favorite issues of the series.
>>150607279Give me your best single issues now.
>>150649320I am amazed that I recognized this. Something like "What If (a bunch of characters with white outfits or white fur) fought in a blizzard?", right? In a What If with a bunch of short gag ones like "What If the Fantastic Four were bananas?" and "What If Spider-Man married Black Widow?"
>>150608797Based
The GI Joe silent issue because it was peak storytelling in the medium whether you know anything about GI Joe or not
>>150607279What exactly are the worst single issue comics you have read?
>>150651197
>>150639920totally agree, I despise descompressive storytelling.
>>150649521Alpha Flight 6, pat of assistant editors month. Walt Simonson pulled a similar gag in his F4 run when the team was near a black hole.
>>150649521It's Alpha Flight #6. It is a fight in a blizzard, but not played as a joke. John Byrne just didn't have time to draw it.
>>150650048No, it's not that good.
Maybe the best single Batman issue ever. It feels like the most definitive one-off Batman adventure, Batman as this unstoppable terror hunting down criminals who orphaned a kid.
>>150607279Single Issue .Why are they the best?
HOT SINGLE ISSUES IN YOUR AREA!
>>150653017It's cool.
>>150607279Remember the Wizard Top 100 Standalone Issues storytime a while back? Most of those were crap. I started making my own list, but I gave up pretty fast. Here's the last of those storytimes, containing the full list:https://desuarchive.org/co/thread/140746099/
>>150654667I mean there's definitely a lot in there I like. Someone's a Legion fan which I appreciate. Though a lot of the placement is all kinds of fucked up and you can see some clear recency bias. One thing that always stands about lists I find is that you can usually split its contents into a few categories.1. The stuff the list maker ACTUALLY wanted to talk about.2. The stuff they HAVE to talk about. 3. The stuff they scrambled together to pad out the list because 100 is a lot.
>>150654956That's the problem with setting yourself up as an authority.
>>150656067CBR can at least blame it's top 100 runs on the audience.
Superman teaming up with Guy Gardner and Hal. Fun comic.
>>150654956>The stuff they scrambled together to pad out the list because 100 is a lot.But reading comics is their job...
>>150657517Critics jobs is to pretend to be smart while reading whatever they're critiquing. It's not about what they like it's about what looks good to like.
Interesting.
>>150652841man, that's a bad comic. i like superman and i like swan and byrne but that was a rare miss.
first 75 issues were gold
the story takes off later but the first chapter was ground breaking
saratoga
buscema's finest work
best storytelling
Genuinely surprised no one has posted it, one of my favorite comic issues ever and despite Grath Ennis I think it's one of my favorite portrayals of superman.
>>150660648If you hadn't, I would have.
dd 257 + p10 reprinted in this one
>>150660648>>150660676iirc the hitman admires superman but still kills the guy
>>150660905Yeah
>>150660604>>150660648Classics.
>>150618137Nah, you're good. I think I got into comics the same way you did. I loved Marvel Adventures, and the Lemire rune is great. I will say I like the Moench run more.
Fuck webp
>>150607279Do you have your own best single issue comics series?
>>150607279Hawkarrow.
>>150654667>>150654956that's a good list. not top 100 by any means, a lot of random stuff but that's why i like it. just ordered a few.
>>150662132This one's overrated.
>>150610153This would have made a great episode of a television series. This is my pick.
>>150664995shut up
>>150662120Great choice, I love it when I read it in 2008.
>>150662115Use paint!
This is Legends of the Dark Knight (V1) issue 000It is about different viewpoints and interpretations of Batman, it's one of the best issues I have read recently
