"Kablam!" thread
Thoughts on this show? it seems to be the only 90s Nicktoon that no one ever brings up
>>
Sniz & Fondue was goign to be a full series, but creator left Nick because of creative differences. Because of this, SpongeBob got its slot.

This show is so satanic it turned many girls in dyke whores and boys into trannies

Prometheus and Bob was always my favorite segment. Sniz and Fondue feels like some kind of proto Regular Show and to this day I wonder if there wasn't some inspiration. Also the whole show feels like taking a time machine to the late 90s now.

The cat in the short (not the lady, an actual cat) suddenly grows a giant freaky head that wobbles around looking right at the camera. As an adult it's not even remotely scary but as a kid it was so jarring it got me good.

>>
>>150618877
Was always bored to tears from it, even as a kid. Saw it as the reject garbage bin of shorts that didn't go anywhere and in hindsight seems I wasn't that far off. Funny how I did not like Prometheus and Bob as a kid, but I somehow respected it, and thought it was an much older cartoon from the Looney Tunes era getting reused, just because the jokes and slapstick were so well timed. Cant even recall most of the shorts, there were so many and most of them oneshots. Sniz and Fondue had this weird meanspirited vibe of CatDog, Action League and Loopy looked like literal fucking shit and the other recurring ones, like the Off-Beats or whatever it was called were just annoying. Every single time it was on, I just took my losses and went to do my homework, so I won't miss any actually good cartoons.

It's my all-time favorite nicktoon, before he moved away, my last friend pirated the series and burnt it onto DVDs for me, including the award special and the one where Henry and June go to school.
He accidentally missed a couple episodes during the initial burning, but I caught on before he moved.

Henry and June were honestly the best part of the show and I genuinely find it interesting how these two crudely animated hosts were more interesting than any of the shorts. They were really charming characters.

I mean, even for the people like me who were old enough to have seen it back then we were still childen, and only have the context of that to go by.

It was a nickelodeon show pre online media, it was part of the larger monoculture that doesn't seem to exist much, I'd say it was very popular by virtue of being on the very popular cable channel.

I really liked it, though, it was one of my favourite shows.

It was popular enough at the time that anybody old enough to remember it airing will recall it, but for some reason it really just stopped getting reruns pretty shortly after it ended so younger people have no idea about it. Same thing as the Adventures of Pete and Pete which IIRC stopped airing on TV after 1999.

Loved it. Action League, Sniz & Fondue, Prometheus & Bob, Life with Loopy.
>>
>>150650443
I liked it.
My best friend and his wife named their dogs Prometheus and Bob. But it had to be said that the show was only popular with a certain kind of kid, the sort that enjoyed Wienerville before it and who would later like Sifl and Olly (ROCK!) and Wondershowzen, none of which were ever popular outside of cult following. So despite what everyone else itt is telling you:
no, it wasn't popular
no, most people don't remember it and
no, it had no cultural impact at all
And if I recall correctly, it kept getting it's timeslot moved around, which is an obvious sign that something wasn't doing well.
It was fun and funny but it's not getting into the Library of Congress for preservation any time soon (or ever) and will eventually become lost media. It falls short of the criteria of being a work that "possesses cultural, historical, or aesthetic significance". This doesn't mean it's not good. It is. It's just not popular with wider audience and never was. It was popular with weirder audiences and remains so
>>
>>150618877
You know rewatching Action League Now I wonder where did they get all the spare toys to destroy.
>>
>>150663645
I feel how the show was with many one off shorts some shorts are already lost media. That being said I don't think an unpopular show would get 4 seasons.
>>
>>150663693
>I don't think an unpopular show would get 4 seasons
You'd be surprised. There are numerous reasons to keep a show going besides ratings. As I can't find watch-figures from the time to back up my claim, I'll use figures from a more recent show, Crazy Ex Girlfriend, to exemplify why a show might be kept on.
CEG premiered to a measly 1 million viewers and lost half of them as time went on. The show got immense critical acclaim but people just weren't into it. Despite low viewership, CW kept it going as a prestige show. As a result, it won multiple awards despite being consistently among the three lowest watched shows on the network throughout its run. All the Golden Globes in the world couldn't make the average joe (let's be honest: the show was for bitches and fags so average josephine might be more like it) give a halfpenny fingerfuck about it.
Kablam! was also well received by critics. But kids don't read the trades so their opinions didn't matter for shit with them. Even looking up "nickelodeon show with the lowest viewership in 1996/1997/1998/1999/2000" (insert relevant year individually) says that while exact numbers from back then haven't been saved for us to view now, Kablam! is always mentioned as one of the lowest watched shows in each of those years alongside such impactful works as Shelby Woo, Space Cases, Cousin Skeeter, 100 Deeds for Eddie McDowd and The Journey of Allen Strange (I've never even heard of these last two shows) as well as actually remembered programs like Aaah! Real Monsters and Rocko's Modern Life (both of which also had low viewership, despite how fondly remembered they are). Regardless of its 4 season run, Kablam! simply isn't remembered nearly as much as A!RM or RML, neither of which ran as long as K! did.
>>
>>150663975
>>150663716
>>150663645
It was cheap to make. If a show is cheap, it can survive low viewership because it still brings in ad revenue. That's why it stayed around as long as it did.

>>
>>150626879
Didn’t they end up hosting the kid’s choice awards one year or something?
>>
>>150646785
I’m with you. YouTube compressed videos are trash. I’d prefer higher quality rips for the archives.
>>
>>150650443

>>
>>150662333
Pretty sure that's all there is- of that scene at least.
>>
>>150664119
>That's why it stayed around as long as it did.
It lasted a few years and was pulled from reruns just a few years after that. Its run isn't especially impressive.
>>
>>150653945
Such horrible animation. No wonder why I forgot about it all these years
>>
>>150664119
As an adult you realized how cheap it was to make, of the three longest running shorts 2 were stopmotion with very limited animation and 1 was a guy waving toys around and throwing them in a blender.
>>
>>150665808
The fact that it outlasted other shows or better quality is impressive regardless of the lack of reruns.
>>150666401
The fact they used literalwho Yinzers as talent shows how cheap it is.
>>
>>150666799
>The fact they used literalwho Yinzers as talent shows how cheap it is.
What?
>>
>>150666401
>>150664540
This is why it was even made. Low quality fillers, failed pilots, ultra-cheap production shows getting bolted together with some cheaply animated doodle presenters as a slot filler. It basically cost nothing to make, compared to the big hit shows and they made their money back on it.
>>
>>150666915
Robert Mittenthal, Will McRobb and Chris Viscardi aren't household names, even now IE they're literalwhos. And they're all from Pittsburgh IE they're Yinzers. The term comes from people from that area saying "yinz" as the plural of "you" like southerners saying y'all and retards saying yous.
Pittsburgh is a 7th rate "city" so you can pay someone from there in Primanti sandwiches (IE a regular fucking sandwich with fries in it) and Pittsburgh salads (IE a regular fucking salad with fries in it) to do a full day's work.
>>
>>150663975
So you think it did well with the critics? maybe since it also was a way to show pilots they thought it was worth a shot to keep it around.
>>
>>150667933
>think
Know. Critics at the time found the idea of animated sketch comedy novel and praised the writing and pace of many segments. One I recall reading compared it favourably with Silly Symphonies, Merry Memories or whatever. It said something like "finally, a Silly Symphonies/Merry Melodies/whatever for the 90s".
>>
>>150667933
It was for recycling pilots that did not get picked up. If they were any good, they would have been made into show.

It never clicked with me as a kid that June was supposed to be a girl. Didn't even find out until a few years ago.

Can anyone post Kablam stuff from the Nickelodeon Magazines?

It was moreso because the original creators of Angela Anaconda didn't sign off on letting them use the show for DVD rights or something, and unfortunately she was too woven into the show to remove her segments. Something stupid like that.

Looking on google it seems Flesh was a painted Conan the barbarian toy with a ken doll crotch, Stinky was a repainted GI Joe and Thundergirl was a WonderWoman action figure with a doll head.

That doesn't answer how many of those toys they needed to make every time, they got blended, melted, broken or burn.

>As a kid first watching it, I thought Sniz and Fonduue were brother and Snuppa and Bianca were their parents.
That’s what I thought too. I had no idea what "roommates" were as a kid.

It’s like Sid from Toy Story worked on that show?
>>
>>150662498
Considering Mo Willems worked on both, I'd say it was more of a nod than a spoof.

Yeah as soon as I saw that picture in the op it all came back. There is a level of laughter that I am capable of but have never experienced since childhood. Just pure out of control "I cannot breathe and may actually die" laughing fits. That was Prometheus and Bob.

Toy story vs Action League Now! sounds like a kino crossover.

June has to pee one episode and went in her pants in one episode when she thought a Halloween costume was real
She has to pee one episode and went in her pants I think one episode when she thought a Halloween costume was real.
I think June has just went where no one has gone before...in her pants!

I didn't really watch it after S2.
Sniz and Fondue wasn't the best segment but its departure is a good benchmark for a lot of the segments being worse. Prometheous and Bob was the most consistent thing about it.

Seemed like the type of girls that get naked in front of their brothers. Weird how girls like this end up getting married.

I'm guessing they actually made them themselves, which also keeps them away from any copyright problems. It's not He-Man and Wonder Woman or Supergirl etc. toys, it's The Flesh and Thundergirl, etc.
