The reason it failed is because it's a motel, but they charged hotel prices. The theming is fun but you're allowed to just walk in and around the hotel, and even shop and eat there. There's zero incentive to actually book a very overpriced room.
I'm willing to bet this has to do with licensing. Their parent company, Palace Entertainment, was recently bought out by Herschend Family Entertainment (the same company that owns Dollywood). Even before the company buyout, Palace was moving away from IP-based attractions, such as removing their Thomas Town themed attractions over at Kennywood in Pittsburgh. Herschend really likes to stick with their own IPs, not license others, for cost-saving.
