This issue of Absolute Superman also feels a bit different. Maybe because it's supposed to be a turning point in the story, but it feels a lot more, I dunno, standard Superman. It's much brighter, less dystopian, not as angsty, etc. etc. It's still a little gruesome, but this is a substantial recovery from the situation ol' Kal-El was just in the issue before. Like we were always gonna get here eventually, but this feels like quite the turnaround from him being at his worst, having dealt with torture and mental manipulation that pushed him to the edge of killing someone. These pages of him standing heroically as his massive cape flutters around feels like what you'd see in the mainline book, not the Absolute universe. Maybe Sol-El is just that helpful of a ship-cape, but I dunno. Just speculating, but it almost feels like the gas pedal is being pressed a little bit. Is there anything in the solicits about any big event impacting the future of the Absolute Universe that they'll need to get in order for? Like I thought DC-KO was already confirmed for not messing with Absolute.

Still pretty leery of connecting the absolute books, being relatively self contained has served them well so far. An event is inevitable but I was hoping they would wait another year at least. I’m also torn on absolute crossing over with the mainline continuity (whatever it’s called these days). That concept has potential but it’s equally risky IMO. Most of the absolute books have a good enough foundation premise wise to maintain being indefinite ongoing books, especially Batman and Martian Manhunter, if I was calling the shots I’d ride it out as long as possible and line up new creative teams if/when the current creative teams wrap up or tap out.

The nuUltimate Universe has ended up being such a disappointment. It started strong with it's launch titles but as other anons have pointed out in the thread the Maker's Council have either been mostly ignored (Spider-man), introduced late (X-Men) or dealt with early because the writer just wanted to move on to something that actually interested them (Black Panther). They have been so underused that they probably shouldn't have existed at all, especially since the book that utilises them the most, The Ultimates is not only the worst book in the line, it killed my interest in the line entirely.Not to mention the whole "every issue occurs in real time" gimmick really railroaded the writers into only been able to write loosely connected one-shots.In contrast, I actually thought the Absolute Universe had started fairly poorly and has only started to knit together into something interesting with the Absolute Evil one-shot since so far every title might as well have been set in their own separate continuities. Mind you the quality of each title is still wildly inconsistent and there have been some very questionable creative choices so far (the worst is probably the nonsense regarding Absolute Joker).

If Darkseid is basically the Emotional Entity of the entire spectrum here, that's why there's only Yellow, Red, Green, and Black -- Fear, Rage, Will (the universe is Darkseid's will), and Death.
