Pomni tried to get Jax to fight her back to prove a point and it kinda blew all over her face because Jax is in too deep to let change happen in him, there's a reason the quiet moments have been more impactful for the characters even if they are boring in the grand scheme of their problems, being separated from the bright and loud of the circus is what has allowed lessons to stick in and unfortunately you only get those either in dark moments (like the Manor's hell, Spudsy's, the loser corner) or when a couple share a designated therapy talk time without the others nearby(more importantly, Jax). They aren't even fixing anything so far, they are just shedding light into issues that no one had bothered to check in for years because everyone was apparently too closed off and coping that they never gave community and communication a though aside of the spare shared times before and during adventures. Everyone was too busy being trapped in the circus and their minds that they forgot the are also living together.

If you edited the show to make every character female, then basically nothing changes. American woman are just terrible at writing men believably, which is probably why there's such an uptick in lesbians, because that's what they're writing even if they're writing a straight relationship.You could take the entirety of Steven Universe, alter it so every character (aside from Greg) is female, and show it to someone that's never seen the show before, and they probably wouldn't be able to tell you which one's were actually supposed to be men, unless you also asked which characters got fucked-over the hardest.

Everything in the circus is arbitrary and either doesn't matter or can be changed on Caine's whim, with the sole exception of the characters' minds. Because there's no way to make any kind of material changes, relationship building and introspection are all that's meaningful.
