What's the point of a lightstaber crossguard?
>>
How the fuck can anyone still give a fuck about Star Wars?
>>
>>150656970
to look different so they aren't just milking the same thing over and over but not so different to potentially scare off people who still want the same thing over and over
>>
>>150656970
Toy sales.
>>

why not just make it out of cortosis?

When did you get tired of Disney's "bring something back from the old EU, but make it shittier" song and dance? For me I think it was their terrible version of Thrawn.
>>
>>150656970
To look stupid. Nothing will ever beat the good old standart lightsaber.
>>
>>150656970
there’s a green one?
>>
>>150656970
I can kinda see the point, but the problem is it probably limits your movements so it's less practical than it appears. I think the explanation for Kylo's is that he sucked at making lightsabers and accidentally cracked his crystal so he had to improvise and go with the crossguard to keep the thing stable.

>>
>>150656970
The way Jedi Survivor treats it as a heavier style, with the crossguard blades being excess energy from overcharged Kyber crystal.
In reality it’s just to look cool like majority of all lightsaber variants.
>>
>>150656970
>What's the point of a lightstaber crossguard?
Nothing. You can say that it could actually serve as a guard but that does fuck-all when the opposing blade makes it to the emitter and cuts through it. The original explanation was that Guylo Ren had to add them as exaust ports because he fucked up his lightsaber and needed them to help with output regulation.
>>150657020
>why not just make it out of cortosis?
Because cortosis is brittle as fuck and will break.

Force awakens with not Jacen and not Jaina
>>
>>150658273
Can it be a name other than Jacen because that was a stupid fucking name when it was first out in the EU, EU was really out there just throwing out every glup shitto possible without George making up the funky names.
>>
>>150657003
That and every single villain has to have something weird and different about their lightsaber. It cannot just be a plain ol lightsaber but red.
Maul had the double blade one
Dooku had the curved one
Sideous had the little pocket sized gold bling one
Kylo had the crossguard one
>>
>>150658313
It's a better name than Ben, at least for Han and Leia's kid. The EU got it absolutely right: it would be Luke, not Han and Leia, who would name his son after Obi-Wan. And it continues the tradition in Star Wars of the Skywalker males after Anakin having entirely boring, Earthlike names.

This is why it makes no sense that the Skywalker in Star Wars Legacy was named "Cade." That's too Star Wars-y a name, Skywalker men are supposed to have normal names. He should have been Chris Skywalker.

Honestly it is since lightsabers aren't meant to have blade weight, but I did enjoy using it to bonk enemies with a claymore lightsaber.

To look cool. The people that care about whether/how it'd function as an actual crossguard have long since lost the plot. It just looks rad in and of itself, that's justification well enough.
>>

I always love how Maul just stops and watches, like he can't believe this shit.

Whether it's cool to you is another matter, but that's why they did it.

Heat vent.
Iirc, the lore behind it is that Ben was so dogshit at making his lightsaber that he had to include vents on the side or the hilt would fry itself.
>>
>>150656988
I still care, but only about pre Disney stuff, just like everyone else. So Disney has succeeded in utterly destroying a franchise they spent billions on.

Mando season 1. It was shit from the start and it drives me insane that no one sees it.
>>
>>150657081
From the very beginning. Kylo Ren is not only discount Vader, he's discount Reven to. Their helmets are almost completly the same.
On a different note, why the fuck did Han solo die in the first film and in such a stupid fucking manner. I know Ford wouldnt come back until they did but couldnt they have waited until the 2nd film, so we could get the original trio in at least one scene together and make it the symbol of the main characters low point? I know its silly to ask considering the retards in charge of this franchise but for fuck's sake it was right there.

This. It seems to happen alot where people will gush over a series or movies first part, then complain when the later part goes to shit and all I can do is sit in thr corner and say "My brother in Christ, it was shit from day one. There was no way it was gonna turn out to be anything but shit."
Pic related.

It takes a hilariously dangerous weapon and makes it even more comically so. The only way that design could be interesting and feasible is if you reverse it and make it into a Japanese Jumonji Yari spear type deal. Even then it's still dumb.
>>
>>150660104
In TFA's defense, this IS a pretty cool fight, at least for most of it. It also completes Finn's character arc, and he's basically the only one in the entire Sequel Trilogy who ever HAS an arc, nobody else does any kind of growing or developing in any meaningful way.
>>
>>150658250
Only problem with this armor is that all lightsabers are on at once
Make the guy a closer quarters combatant that uses sabers to inflict kills while doing a particular move
If he gave someone a knee to the gut and then saber would turn on It would make sense
Also give him a facemask too look cooler

It was supposed to be a very unique feature for Kilo Ren because he had a cracked kyber crystal and he had to make do. Then suddenly they were common as dirt throughout all Galactic history.
>>
>>150656970
Everyone who gets put in charge of a new Star Trek series wants to leave their mark on the whole IP by creating an exciting new lightsaber gimmick, partly so they can forever say "it was ME who came up with the round-hilt helicopter lightsabers!" but mostly also so Disney can have a whole new line of Lightsaber toys to sell to mentally stunted collectors and fans
>>
>>150661031
His shit should have smoked rather than just being laser bullshit on the side. It would have at least given his gay ass a cool effect in duels.
>>
>>150656970
If the blade just came out the side instead of having (cutable) emitters, or even better just had a cortosis guard it would make much more sense.
>>
>>150657129
>Nothing will ever beat the good old standart lightsaber.
I like Dooku's with the curved hilt
>>
>>150656970
Like any other stupid lightsaber design, it's a quick and easy way of identifying Star Wars stories that are made by retards. It won't get everything of course, but you'll filter a lot of shit. I'll give double-ended lightsabers a pass because they've been around since I was the right age to think that Darth Maul was the coolest shit ever (and have been in pretty much every piece of media since), but beyond that I draw the line at mildly novel hilt shapes (like Dooku's, not some simpleton's idea of making lightsabers "better").
>>
>>150657011

>>150656988
Andor ruined everything so you couldn't just deride and dismiss all of nuSW as bad.
>>
>>150656988
People might like things that you don't. Shocking, I know, but it's true. Did you know that you might also like things that some people don't?
>>
>>150660133
I like a good chunk of that show, but I cannot fucking stand that stupid heli-saber bullshit. MAYBE, I could dismiss it if they explained it as an assistance to a force ability(because it's already been established that they can fall from any distance so long as the push against the ground just before landing, which is still a stretch, honestly), but no, they just one day, outta fucking nowhere, HELI-SABERS.
>>
>>150660944
That would be dishonorable to both jedi and dark jedi (sith) alike so nobody does that maneuver despite the obvious combat advantages
>>
>>150659024
It's a Biblical name, it serves.
>>
>>150656988
The same way I still care about my dad: Might be dead, but I still value the time we had together.
>>
>>150656970

You think those are dumb, check out protosabers.

Basically the capacitors and plasma regulators when the crystal was energized through a cruciform hilt allowed you to make longer and hotter burning blades, but the trade off was additional plasma channels.

Its not dumb, and honestly, I think it looks cool.

Also kids were getting hurt with sabers. There's a reason crossguards were developed in our world.
>>
>>150656988
I do, actually. I still really enjoy star wars.

Look, the EU had a lot of REALLY dumb stuff, just like Disney Wars has.

But I like both, and I'm allowed to.
>>
>>150662159

These are actually cool though and feel believable as an early form of the technology.
>>
>>150656970
There isn't one. A crossguard is supposed to catch a blade, but for a lightsaber to do that then there would have to be a continuous line from crossguard to blade, otherwise the opponent blade will just cut through the emitters.
Kylo Ren's lightsaber doesn't have a crossguard, it has vents to release excess energy from a cracked Kyber crystal. Which, like everything in the sequels, is an interesting idea fucked up in execution, and in typical Star Wars fashion, a cool and unique saber designed to make a character stand out suddenly gets copy/pasted onto a bunch of EU characters. The same way double-bladed sabers suddenly started showing up everywhere after Episode 1.
>>
>>150656970
Can it kill people effectively?
