Are Conan the Barbarian comics worth reading? Where should I start? Or should I read the original stories by Robert E Howard instead?

Is she being taken to the bone zone?
>>
>>150694179
Nothing made in the last 15 years.
But they tend to be really good
>>
>>150694179

Enjoy your 3 day ban, bitch. MODS!
>>
>>150694179
Go for the original REH prose stories if you want more, you read the comics
>>
>>150694179
Yes.
You haven't already read them? 4chan is an 18+ site.
>>
>>150694202
Are the first Conan comics those 1970s Marvel ones?
>>
>Where should I start?
Classic:
Conan the Barbarian (1970) #1
Savage Sword of Conan (1974) #1
Modern:
Conan (2004) #1
More modern:
Conan the Barbarian (2019) #13
>>
>>150694179
read the stories, then go from there, why even ask?
>>
>>150694179
Start with the original stories, then read the comics. That way you can appreciate how well the comics match the tone of the stories.
>>
read the becky cloonan run

Yes, well technically there were unauthorized Mexican comics in the 50's and 60's.
>>150694698
Don't do this.
>>
>>150694822
>Yes, well technically there were unauthorized Mexican comics in the 50's and 60's.
Considering how Mexican copyright works, they probably won't have a need for.
The copyright lasted from life + 26 years.

this is the cartoon board, wouldn't it "ink" you instead
>>
>>150694698
I don't think she wrote anything Conan-related besides that cancelled Dark Agnes book, only drew some parts of the Wood run, which is bad.
>>
>>150694179
The original stories are alright. The 70s comics suck. While the art is nice, it doesn't capture the action very well, and it has all those comic book accoutrements that get in the way of a smashing story.
>>
>>150694232
If they allow loli and furry porn, this should be totally fine.
>>
>>150694179
Conan's recent appearances in Marvel were pretty interesting.
>>
>>150695038
They dont allow it. It's just that the moderation team for /co/ is rarely every active.
>>
>>150695121
I've seen them delete posts protesting those threads while letting the thread reach bump limit and I have been given warnings myself several times.
They allow it.

Read the stories, they are short and sweet.
>>
You should read the stories anyway, they're great.

This. He held his own against Shuma-Gorath and won just using wits and cold steel. Meanwhile the Avengers need crazy power tech, magic, a god, and a very strong green man to do the same feat. One of these thing is not like the others.
>>
>>150695352
King Kull's were surprisingly introspective.
>>
>>150694179
The Dark Horse ones are the shit
>>
>>150695323
I love how that specific story has Conan fight the closest thing to a Lovecraftian old one, and the cover shows him fighting a snake.
>>
>>150695371
Some artists didn't actually read the stories, namely Frazetta, which explains a lot.

>Conan fight the closest thing to a Lovecraftian old one
If it is actually Howard's originals, you can scratch the "closest".

>Are Conan the Barbarian comics worth reading?
yes
>Where should I start?
The old marvel bvarnarian and savage sword
> Or should I read the original stories by Robert E Howard instead?
You should absolutely read the REH stories because they're great.
>>
>>150695406
I mean with the reference to lovecraft first Mythos story Dagon and that ending that feels like Howard either paying homage or pocking fun at Lovecraft writing style.
>>
>>150695463
REH and HP Lovecraft where pen pals. They exchanged a lot of ideas and concepts. So in the actual as written storties those aren't just references those are the straight up Lovecraft gods themselves.
>>
>>150695463
They were best buddies, and part of weird tales trinity alongside Clark Ashton Smith.

>>150695493
Yes, Salomon Kane outright fought against Tsathoggua in another story.
>>
>>150695536
I love how the Book of Eibon is one of the big no no books in the Cthulhu mythos but Eibon in the Hyperboria stories is kind of a goof.
>>
>>150694185
Nah, it's just deep core chiropractic re-adjustment.
>>
>>150694179
I cant wait for Conan to be public domain.

How the fuck is this still up? The thumbnail is completely nsfw with a bitch getting fucked with her titties out and the mods still haven't done anything about it? What the fuck?
>>
>>150694822
Never thought I’d see a bootleg comic
>>
>>150695454
>inspired me to write sword and sorcery
fuck magic btw
>>
The main point of Conan is "Cityfolk are full of shit!"
>>
>>150695493
They even did a round robin story together called The Challenge from Beyond, and the stark contrast of the REH section from the Lovecraft section is one of the funniest things I've ever read
>>
>>150694179
omega based that this is still up
>>
>>150697156
He is kind of is, but only by 2028 it will be 100% sure
>>
>>150697550
>fuck magic btw
It is more "fuck evil mages".
>>
Controversial opinion maybe but honestly, I have enjoyed most Conan I have read. There is definitely stuff I like more than other stuff, but it has been very consistent over the years and I don't think you can go wrong with any of it. Even the current Savage Sword has been fun. It is kind of like James Bond for me, something I just enjoy.
>>
Sometimes I think Im the only one whos a real fan from the cartoon. Easily one of the best 90s cartoons. I think its not as famous because it wasnt attached to a dc/marvel big name like SM, Xmen or Batman.

>Are Conan the Barbarian comics worth reading?
Savage Sword is good because of the tits. But you're much better off reading the REH stories.
>>
>>150697735
Which savage sword? there are many
>>
>>150697946
The old stuff from the 70s

I despise all mages equally
>>
>>150697673
All mages are evil. Pseudo intellectualism to cope and resentment for being lesser men.
>>
>>150694179
They are awesome, I think it was Image or Dark Horse that published them and the one with the Hyperboreans was great. Excellent series with great art.
>>
>>150697685

The current one is great for featuring REH's other characters.
>>
>>150697673

That's redundant.

It was to read Skull face after reading the call of cthulhu.

>>150698106

Not in Howard's stories.

how does that affect how I perceive mages?
