Who has the better episodes, Stan or Kyle?
>>
>>150695641
stan episodes are always "life sucks, i'm being abused somehow, i'm turning into some kind of monster, I'm the only one who knows something obvious and nobody else will listen"
kyle episodes are always "a cute girl likes me, or it's hard being a jew right now, or I'm having a serious quandry with an interesting resolution"
it's kyle all the way
>>
Stan episodes usually involve Butters and Kyle episodes usually involve Cartman. It's a hard choice
>>
Stan
>>
>>150695641
You remember when South Park used to centre on both of them (with the exception of the Meteor shower trilogy)?
>>
>>150695641
Kyle, but I like Stan more as a character
>>
>>150696402
Butters episodes BTFO all the others when it comes to character focused episodes
>>
>>150696402
Kyle came really close to burning down the school
>>
>>150695641
Stan has more fun episodes. Most of the time he recognizes something weird in the world that nobody else notices at all and he has to deal with it or fix it by himself. The shitty ones are when Stan just thinks the world sucks and he is depressed, I normally hate those but they are kind of rare.

Half of Kyle's episodes are about something in the world overly punishing Kyle and his life turning to shit for half an hour. Those are never fun to me. Other times he is the world's moral compass and he has to set everyone else right. Those can be pretty great but they are mostly hit or miss.

Butters episodes are consistently funny since Matt and Trey have no real design with him and they just let him get into wacky cartoon adventures a lot.
>>
>>150696631
Well I LOVE Butters, so this is a very easy choice for me!
>>
kyel is a jew so automatically stan
>>
>>150695641
Hard choice, but probably Kyle.
>>
>>150697138
Cartman was always the real star
>>
>>150699079
I agree but Cartman loses episodes are always way more fun than Cartman wins episodes.
>>
>>150699079
WAS the real star. Then it was Randy for a few seasons and now it's Trump
>>150699117
Well, Cartman barely wins
>>
>>150695641
Idk but I remember as an underageb& kid on their site's BBS, some guy flipped out over that OP image and threatened to self harm because of Stan pulling that gun.
Death of places like that makes vintage fandom wanks just dust in the wind.
>>
>>150699435
That sounds hillarious
>>
>>150699079
I honestly prefer when Cartman was just a dumbass racist douchebag, but still a kid. Not the vicious megalomaniac retard closeted homo he's become, not to say there aren't fun stories with him now, but I just can't understand why the other boys would let him hang around at all.
Basically I miss Cartman from before he pronounced his words like "Skewl" and "Kyel."
>>
>>150699759
So pre Scott Tenorman? I kinda agree
Also, I imagine some of them (like Kyle) think he can change
>>
Stan. He can be whiny and it usually involves Randy being an tired act retard.....

....but Kyle's episodes are much whinier and he's basically just crying bout Cartman the whole episode while Cartman does the thing or acting just like his mom.
>>
>>150699897
>I imagine some of them (like Kyle) think he can change
In the earlier seasons that seemed reasonable, like he would just naturally grow out of it because while he was a problem child he was still a child and Leanne snapping "don't be difficult, Eric!" was enough to bring him back in line. Now it feels like if Leanne did that he'd just start a fire or something in retaliation.
It also doesn't gel for me that most of the time he is depicted as being so stupid he is functionally retarded, but then when the episode calls for it he is a master manipulator, a business savant capable of launching a successful company on a whim, who can speak fluent Spanish, is an expert photographer, can play multiple instruments, and has at least post-graduate level engineering skills, who is so proficient in the things he does that the entire town tiptoes around him.
I get that it's a comedy series so I'm happy to let it go while actually watching the series, I just find the level of fladerization has become absurd. Also there is rarely a story that involves all four boys working together. Stan and Kyle barely even seem like friends anymore unless the plot requires it.
>>
>>150699740
Turns out it was the same guy who later got psych eval'd because he threatened death online over YGO/Assburgers. Been so long now that I wonder if he either got help he needed or the show put him over the edge with the farm or something else...

Unfortunately true. South Park would be NOTHING without Cartman
>>
>>150695641
Hard to say, but I just wanted to mention I was thinking recently about this show and it feels like the black friday/console wars trilogy was the swan song of SP. A great story of the kids being kids with outlandish exaggeration. It probably wasn't that long after that everything became like it is now, I think they caught the serialization bug in the season after which then led to the season after that being the big trump one.
>>
>>150700135
Yeah, that kinda sucks
>>150703122
Well, the Labubu episode came close

kyle episodes but i'm biased because i love him
that being said, there are some really fucking god-awful kyle episodes

>>
>>150699913
The way you describe Stan makes him sound like Sharon
>>
>>150697251
Well, yeah, obviously, but that wasn't the choice. OP is asking you to choose between soup and salad, not soup, salad or a a slice of pie.
>>
>>150704681
My choice is Kyle, but it's by a hair
>>
>>150704370
CUTEST cartoon brothers!
>>
>>150705230
To think he used to kick Ike
>>
Kyle could neg-diff Stan in a fight, it's uim
>>
>>150695641
Stan focus episodes are great
the facebook episode, the pope rabbit, the whale wars, guitar queero, jacking in off san diego, the dance episode, anything stendy, the post covid special he is the mc, etc, those episodes are great because of him, you could also add the inception episode but its kinda more a mackey one, or the satanic animals

its hard to think about Kyle episodes that are great because of HIM and not because its an stealth Cartman episode
in general Kyle comes across as a whiny faggot
>>150705982
Stan is a jock and beat everyone on the bebe boobs episode

Both Stan & Kyle are really boring as characters.
>>
>>150706542
I never considered how much Cartman plays into Kyle's likability
Also, he had a bone. Doubt he'd win with his bare hands
>>150706555
No they aren't
>>
It was funny seeing Kyle fart in a tent in Volcano.
>>
>>150699173
What episodes have Cartman win?
>>
>>150707455
Off the top of my head, Scott Tenorman, La Petit Tourette and Ginger Cow
>>
>>150706555
>>150706995
I don't agree either, but the main problem is that Matt and Trey think otherwise.
>>
>>150707617

>>150695641
Who wants to see Wendy have an episode?
>>
>>150707522
Ginger Kids as well
>>
>>150708417
Eh, barely call that winning.
>>
Stan is undeniably the worst out of the four boys.
>>
>>150708672
Episode-wise, right? For me, it's hard to say.
Kenny clears all of them, though
>>
>>150695641
The episode Mystery of the Urinal Deuce was a kyle episode so kyle
>>
>>150695641
Most of the Stan episodes are carry by Randy being Randy, and Kyle episodes are either carry by Cartman or Canadian slander
>>
>>150708881
>Randy being Randy
Randy's a dogshit character, but okay
>>
>>150708852
It's hard to pick who's better. Depends on my mood
>>
>>150707522
Cartman 100% lost in La Petit Tourette
>>
>>150696631
>Kyle episodes usually involve Cartman.
Into the trash it goes.
>>
>>150709281
How? Kyle saved him from embarrassing himself
>>
The true question here was Stan in the wrong for taking a 2 in the urinal?
>>
>>150709777
Dude, no normal person would even think of doing that.
>>
>>150709332
You don't like Cartman?
>>
>>150699079
This is a thousand percent true. When the show first came out Cartman was who everyone cared about with Kenny a distant second. The show would not have succeeded without Cartman.
>>
>>150710359
Wonder why they've pivoted away from him somewhat. Randy and Trump aren't as good.
>>
Remember when Stan randomly farted in the pilot and all the boys laughed?
Why can't they be that close again?
>>
>>150711076
Kyle also had a bunch of fart gags in season 1 and in the season 3 Starvin Marvin episode, being only second to the Fartman in mountain town gas warfare.
>>
>>150711101
>Kyle has the second-most fart gags, next to Cartman
The Kyle-Cartman parallels grow...
Also, it must stink in that tent lol
>>
>>150695641
Stan for me.

The depression episode is both him and Kyle but to me it's Stan focused and probably the best example of portraying depression, especially in how people who don't understand just flat out ostracize you from society.
>>
>>150711233
My friend can't even rewatch it without crying
>>
>>150711233
It's definitely a litmus test for what Stan stans could or couldn't take as too much for him. Ones who didn't quit at the first part cursed Trey for having him drink alcohol in the second, as now it would only raise the chances of him following in his dumb dad's footsteps.
>>
>>150711142
Thinking again of that one infamous artist who'd draw Kyle like a pear shaped fat lady and have it so that he couldn't lose weight after the Warcraft episode due to his beetus. She? He? stopped short of making him a gassy bitchy braphog, even though his ass being even bigger than Cartman's would make for some deadly bombs.
>>
>>150695641
Stan has the better storylines most of the time. Kyle can be very annoying. At his worst, Stan is just boring.
>>
>>150711449
He becomes more like Randy in Post Covid, with him not only shifting blame for Shelley's death but also using the same defense for his drinking that Randy does
>>
>>150711961
Makes sense, given Stan's tied to Randy (boring sometimes) and Kyle's tied to Cartman (annoying sometimes)
>>
>>150711494
Kyle doesn't seem like the braphog type. Unless it waa to deal with Cartman
>>
>>150704456
yeah, also human centipad and basically any episode where the central plot is "kyle gets tortured"

>>150712874

>>
>>150712743
Kyle is more passionate than Stan. Kyle will actively oppose whatever Cartman's doing while Stan mostly sits back unless it affects him. Right there is a difference between them
>>
>>150712957
Stan also lets Kyle get wrekt often, but Kyle's done his share of that to Stan too
>>
>>150713004
I thought it was the other way around, where Stan is more dependent on Kyle
>>
>>150697217
Exactly the opposite for me
>>
>>150713190
For me, it depends on my mood
>>
>>150695641
I honestly think the dramatic music they've been using over the years can be kind of jarring, I miss the twangy stuff
>>
>>150713425
Well, they used it prominently in the early seasons, which they hate
>>
>>150712487
Humancentipad was disgusting but I liked the b-plots
Butters sharing his ipad with Kenny was cute
>>
>>150713549
I still don't get why, the earlier seasons were great, they're rougher around the edges but that's part of the charm
>>
>>150713019
kek
>>
>>150713604
They thought the show would get canceled around that time. They'd basically erase everything before the movie if they could.
>>150713593
Butters and Kenny are naturally cute
>>
>>150713636
Like I just said!
>>
Remember when they felt like friends?
>>
I hate that south park is heading to the The Eltingville Club direction with group recent dinamycs
>>
>>150714131
What does that mean?
>>
>>150695641
Stan has the more passive personality, so a lot of his better plotlines deal with him be forced into an absurd situation and not being able to say no. Think Margaritaville, whale wars, got served, Stanley's Cup, or forest critters (I know this was a story Cartman made up, but he got Stan's personality down to a tee). There's a lot of him getting told what to do, and I think it works because he has more patience than the other boys. That's why the ending of Margaritaville is funny, because even Stan has his limits.
Kyle is more outspoken and active when something is wrong. That's why he always has to call out Cartman when he's being an asshole. I think the episodes that highlight this best are also Ike episodes. Ike's teacher, Ike's brisk, taming strange. Ike's teacher is a great example because he really feels like a sane man screaming into a void with that one. Crack babies is also a good one because it plays with his moral compass.
I think I have to give it to Stan, because his able to tolerate so much bullshit often leads to great comedy.

I'll forgive the current season if they somehow incorporate a reference to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q3uPS4k8LCA. It'd be on-par with the other political commentary, but nobody would expect it
>>
I think South Park's earliest episodes, while having a nostalgic charm for that era, aren't exactly good compared to much of what came after. Really it feels like if they came out for the first time today (but every other adult animated TV show had the same history), they wouldn't be anywhere near as liked. Back in the mid 90s, it was more of the novelty of animated kids being really crass.

I think Stan episodes have tended to hit harder though. The one with him coaching the hockey team is a classic.
>>
>>150695641
South Park has sucked since 2006. None of it fucking matters.
>>
>>150697138
Seasons 2 and 3 were so awesome. And to think that Trey & Matt consider those to be their worst. It goes to show how blind their are to their own talent.
>>
>>150695641
A better question is, who has cuter feet, Stan or Kyle?

Easily Stan. He felt closer to Trey Parker's home life, and the show focused more on the Marsh family, making Stan kind of the protagonist of the series, but with Cartman's overwhelming popularity, they had to pump out more Cartman episodes. Shifting the focus to him. Kyle, on the other hand, is kind of underwritten; he's Jewish, and that never becomes relevant to the plot. Can you describe any of his characteristics besides kicking his brother in the early seasons? Yeah, you don't have much for him. Even Butters has more character than he does. If I'm not going crazy, I don't think there's been a Kyle-focused episode since season 17.
>>
>>150718038
Last episode was Kyle-focused and several episodes have his religion at the forefront
>>
>>150718038
Also, if you want a character who's underwritten, Kenny's right there.
>>
Anyway, think Wendy could get an episode?
>>
It’s been two weeks since the last episode, doesn’t that mean there’s supposed to be an episode this week? Why are some websites saying it’s going to be on the 15th?

Actually, I'd like to expand on this a bit since I'm also a Potterhead. Cartman is Harry, the leader. Aside from that natural charisma ("There's no need to call me sir, professor") and tendency to take charge, they're completely different. But Cartman IS South Park, you know?

Kenny is Ron. The protagonists best friend, always in his shadow. Poor as shit and vulgar as hell, quicker to fight than to speak, but he understands the world they live in better than anyone and is loyal to a fault.

Butters is Hermione. Has the intelligence and work ethic to ensure that the protagonists plan pulls through. A bit of a pushover due to their sensitive and softhearted nature, but can also be downright devious to the people they dislike.

(I'm talking about the book versions btw, the movies made Harry a saint, Ron a dumbass, and Hermione a Mary Sue)

What's funny to me is that despite these parallels, Ron/Hermione are constantly bickering like an old married couple while Kenny/Butters have more of a Harry/Ginny dynamic (the thought of Cartman/Karen just popped into my head and now I feel ill). Butters irrationally adores Kenny while Kenny just sees him as a classmate, Kenny becomes protective of Butters (rather like Karen) but still just sees him as a friend of his friend. But as they spend more time together and begin empathizing with each other due to their shared experiences, Butters also becomes more confident and outspoken, displaying his true self to Kenny who realizes that he likes what he sees.

Fuck I gotta cut this short and go, but again reminder that I'm talking about the book versions, movie Ginny was a cardboard cutout that Harry started liking just because.

Kyle, Jerry Max. Interesting 1D, 2D, 3D dynamic too.
Kyle is the avatar for the viewer who talks like a normal person and is quite dull.
Jerry is kind of a 2D cartoony character like emo Bart Simpson, but with Stan and Kenny's personality.
Max is ... 3D as hell and multi purpose. It's like taking a 3DPD /tv/ movie's character and shoving it into a show like South Park. Otherwise known as Mr Garrison.

Both Stan and Kyle do not feel like Butters, Jimmy, etc. which feel like cartoon characters. They feel like mouthpieces.
