I grew up on a fairly religious household but we watched Simpsons and Family Guy every Sunday and my mom was a huge fantasy reader. It wasn't enforced but understood South Park was off the table till I was a teen. The only thing they told me not to read/watch was Harry Potter. If you didn't know the Golden Compass was a book series it's author stated taught kids secular values and for some reason it got confused with Harry Potter among Christian watchdog groups. This lead to some pretty absurd email campaigns that freaked my mom out.

I remember my mom hated Regular Show and Fanboy and Chum Chum but she still let me watch. Dad loved Regular Show and fought my mom on it because he wanted to watch it on the living room TV. Anime was dumb to both so that was always a no go, and I tended to agree with them because they always had dumb shit like Pokemon or Digimon on and I never understood that either. Action shows were "dumb" to dad. He never really respected animation in that way, he only likes the comedy cartoons. Mom got really into Avatar and Xiaolin Showdown with me. I also remember my little sister was banned from watching Victoious and Hannah Montana because she thought they were making her lippy but that lasted only like 2 weeks and she went back to watching them. Not cartoons but it's something.

My dad wouldn't let me watch any shows that didn't exist when he was a kid, and if I did watch them he would literally transform into a ten-foot-tall demon gorilla and beat me to death. Which is normal. The only reason to have kids is to make them be clones of you so when you die you don't really die.
My parents separated when I was 3 but I lived with my mom for the most part. She was too busy working to care about the kind of media I consumed, so I for the most part had unrestricted access to everything, online and on TV.I probably could've been a Chris Chan 2.0 if my dad didn't care enough rasing me.

I remember there was sort of an unspoken rule that I wasn’t allowed to watch The Simpsons for whatever reason, but I remember waking up in the middle of the night once & my parents were watching it in their bedroom across the hall so I never understood why. Also I WAS allowed to watch KND, up until an episode where some sort of caffeine-themed villain punched one of the kids & my mom said, “This is an ugly show. Turn that off.”
