Why aren't there more comics about knights in the anglosphere?
>>
Too eurocentric for modern writers

>>
>>150698953
I not know, knights are cool.
>>
>>150699062
Black knight (marvel)
>>
>>150699017
there's already fuck tons of European inspired shit. Give me some Sumerian inspired comics.
>>
>>150698953
The complexities of attaining and maintaining Knighthood to gain status have largely been done away with in modern society, now you can just get rich, famous and/or influential through other means so people focus on those takes as fantasies instead.
>>
>>150698953
I don't know. There's plenty of franco/belgian knight comics. Some of them even acknowledge that the english exist.
>>
Crusader knights or normal knights?
>>
>>150699181
I hate how it just reverts back to capeshit.
>>
>>
>>150701123
That's just Conan in chainmail.
>>
>>150699062
The Silent Knight from The Brave And The Bold.
The Black Dragon
>>
>>150698953
Prince Valiant was pretty cool

Why would there be?
>>
>>150703417
Why not?
>>
>>150699017
Merlin had a popular enough TV show that it still gets fan fiction and even tiktok memes. But it's really more of a fantasy with a medieval patina as opposed to a straight Knight's Adventure.

>>150699062
There are some good Bande Dessine things >>150699269 that are translated into English, you just need to look for them.

>>150698953
Same reason military and western are either small niche or non-existent.
>>
>>150698953
>Why aren't there more comics about knights in the anglosphere?

I think it's from overexposure of medieval work in media

Once guns were introduced, there was a drop in people interested in the art of swordfighting so fewer writers/artists cared to research that stuff and thus use it as inspiration in their works.
>>
>>150698953
anglosphere? What's that?
>>
>>150705802
America, UK, Canada(4/5) Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Ireland would probably also count
>>
>>150705018
>Once guns were introduced, there was a drop in people interested in the art of swordfighting
Gunfighting and swordfighting as a matter of settling disputes or entertaining crowds were actually replaced by the rapidly growing popularity of prizefighting in the 18th and 19th centuries.

>>150705837
>Ireland would probably also count
That'd be as silly as counting India, Nigeria, and America.
>>
>>150703924
Because they don’t sell and there isn’t any kind of big demand for them
>>
>>150705018
>>150705909
Swordfighting remained a mainstay of combat for over 300 years alongside firearms.
>>
>>150698953
Too difficult to draw in a hurry.
>>
>>150701749
He's literally a reincarnation of Conan and Conan is himself a reincarnation of Kull
>>
>>150706550
Ah, ok
>>
>>150705837
Alright then. Cool. Where could I read more of those?
>>
>>150703369
Wasn't this abandoned?
>>
>>150698953
American comic writers dont appreciate most of medieval europe i think, they only ever do a few subjects like King Arthur or the 1st and 3rd crusades. They dont even get the armors right half the time, it's normally good for the crusade parts because they're cool but sometimes they'll put armor from the mid 1300s plus into 6th or 12th century Europe. There are fun and good mercenary focused ones i believe though. I for one think someone should have been adapting some of the weirder figures like Elegast the carolingian elf knight, or Dietrich Von Bern a weird fire breathing version of King Theoderic the great.
>>
>>150705837
America isn't anglo. it hasn't been for centuries.
>>
>>150699017
Essentially this.
>>
>>150705018
Anon melee and swordfighting remained a thing for centuries.
>>
>>150705837
>America
>Anglo
Even when ignoring minorities, English people stopped being the largest white population a long time ago
>>
>>150698953
Too White for modern writers.
>>
>>150705018
That's broadly true but the reality is much more nuanced.
What really killed pikes and swords was the ring bayonet, that allowed a musket to serve as both a pike and gun simultaneously.
>>
>>150708444
>They dont even get the armors right half the time
As we know that's solely an American thing, everyone knows every European can memorize, determine the culture, and identify the and date every piece of armor from the chalcolithic to the Renaissance. Or could it be that unless someone goes out of their way to make something accurate like hellish quart, most people don't know or care.
>>
>>150708538
There's a whole genre of YouTube channels that's just guys trying to actually make some money off their History degrees by correcting widely held myths about the Middle Ages especially.
I'd say in pop culture things have gotten marginally better, period pieces from he 90s and 00s could be almost cartoonist.
I rewarched Sleepy Hollow the other day and it had witch trials and fake medieval torture devices in the late 18th century.
>>
>>150708640
Compare Outlaw King to Braveheart for a more clear example of what I'm talking about.
>>
>>150705018
The picture that people have in their heads of a knight (mounted, full plate and harness) occurs after the advent and adoption of firearms.
>>
>>150708457
>>150708492
It means speaking English, smart ass, the "Francosphere" includes Africa because it only defines language
>>
>>150698953
blending genres in scifi and fantasy is the new norm you cant sell a book on irl adventures of real bland people and normal earth locations.
>>
>>150708640
>There's a whole genre of YouTube channels that's just guys trying to actually make some money off their History degrees by correcting widely held myths about the Middle Ages especially.
yes, which is niche, even in countries where the European middle ages occurred. Normies don't care, which is usually who makes and consumes media of any kind. that's my point.
>>
>>150709170
I'd say there has been a move toward more authenticity in the last 20 years or so.
>>
>>150709114
Why do they have to be bland?
>>
>>150709719
its inherently the default, people want elements of other fantasy genres blended into it or its classified as bland. Sorry you disagree with that, go make your medieval epic and prove me wrong.
Theres also a dedicated effort by propagandists to portray pre industrial civilization as a dystopian hellscape so theres an additional layer of disinterest you have to fight uphilll to overcome.
>>
>>150709753
Why can't it be medieval fantasy?
>>
>>150698953
After losing the Crusades and Constantinople, they're just pathetic
>>
>>150709913
Go on, make your medieval fantasy epic. No one is stopping you. Every storytelling convention you can possibly use has become a tired cliche that people expect to be subverted but prove us all wrong.
>>
I think it really is because drawing period accurate armor, clothing, and locales is very difficult and mentally/physically taxing, making it not really worth it unless you do a super simple gag comic.

I'm reminded watching Frieren, which presumably takes place in a tolkienesque Middle Age, has people dressed like they are Prussian aristocrats.
>>
>>150709928
The northern crusade went swimmingly.
>>
>>150698953
No black people means their culture is unsyncopated unstylish unfunny just a big bag of abrahamic garbage
