Batroc is cool and I'm tired of pretending he isn't.
>>150703693Just a poor mans earth 3 Sportacus.
>>150703693Captain America in general has a lot of 10/10 villains. I like that Batroc is essentially a friendly rival to Steve Rogers who enjoys sparring with him while trying to pull off his daring criminal capers.
>>150703693As a proud human I liked him in the MCU putting up a good fight against Cap being a completely regular human. Is this guy any good in comics?
>>150704264Depends what comic he appears in you read, some writers will treat him with dignity while others will just shit on him as a joke for no reason. A big indicator is what year the comic is from since it's more of a 2000's issue then a 70's or 80's.
Stan mostly wrote him as a clown. The Captain America 2 movie showed the character's potential.
>>150703693He banged Black Cat. That's pretty cool
>>150705226Who hasn't banged Black Cat?
>>150704264He was another common 60s character that was later considered to be a pathetic joke by the late 80s. It's actually surprising he was not killed by Scourge of the Underworld around that time. By the late 90s he was basically Marvel's Condiment King.
>>150704202I wish they'd lean into him as another "man out of his time" character. If he had been born 100 years earlier he would have been galivanting around Europe, seducing noblewomen and robbing the upper crust as a gentleman thief. Instead he's having to compete with supersoldiers, cyborgs, mutants, and a host of other superpowered individuals just to make a buck.
>>150706176Sounds like a good reboot for the character actually. Give him some magic shenanigans or something that took him from the late 1800's / early 1900's into the present. He reeks of Victorian circus trapezist energy, he's literally called The Leaper. The El Zorro facial hair, FRENCH. Give him a good serious reason to be so flamboyant and eccentric while he adapts to a more cynical world that sees him as a lame joke.
It sucks because it feels like he's been left in the dust relative to other Captain America villains. There will be some like Red Skull, Zola, and even Baron Blood that will remain relevant in more ways than one, Skull for his ability to be a magnet for people that fight for hate and villainy the same way Steve is a magnet for people that fight for hope and heroism, Zola because of his super science, and Baron Blood is a supernatural creature of the night. Meanwhile, Batroc is just a dude that is really good at Savate and is aggressively French, serving less of a speedbump and more of a distraction to get his ass kicked as a laugh.
>>150706263That sort of makes him into yet another Cap villain that comes from a long ago before time.
>>150703693>Batroc is cool>tired>pretending>isn't
>>150703693I've never met anyone who didn't like Batroc
>>150705339you
>>150708674Wrong.
>>150706263Actually making him from the time period robs him of the pathos. You're better off doing an arc where he's thrown back in time where he flourishs, only to get dragged back to a present where he's considered second-rate.
i really like this costume
Way back before Captain America 400, Cap is dying, and Batroc visits him. Cap turns him away initially but they sit down and talk. Cap tells Batroc that his biggest regret is than none of his villains ever reformed. Cap got better obviously, but a What If idea I always wanted to see was Batroc reform after Cap's death, and become the Next Captain America, or rather Captain France.
>>150711794I actually went back and checked. it's actually #443 where they talk.
>>150705487But then Brubaker made him cool again, and that carried over to the MCU.
I think it's cool that he uses Savate
>>150712516Here's where it's mentioned in his first appearance in Tales of Suspense #75, 1966.
>>150703693Everybody likes Batroc
