Honestly, I always related more to abusive characters than protagonists or their victims. The feeling of making those lesser than you feel powerless as you make them fear you while also depend on you for everything is truly a rush that can't be beat. And if they ever snap or try to fight back, you can just always trick them into believing it was their fault and that they were wrong for acting the way they did. Cruelty is the birthright of those who hold power and they should be allowed to exercise it on anyone inferior. Simple as.
