>make stop motion movies
>make them visually indistinguishable from CG
What the fuck is the point again?
>>
>make them visually indistinguishable from CG
They're not
>>

op you unironically might have vision issues
go to an eye doctor
>>
>>150711848
To stretch the medium a bit you fucking retard? That’s like saying "what was the point of making Hotel Transylvania 3D when the characters move like they’re 2D", animation is all about pushing the medium

It's more that CG is advanced enough to emulate stop-motion. For some reason the new Paranorman short coming out this month is labelled as CG, so I'm wondering if they didn't use any stop-motion, for it to get that label.
>>
>>150711848
It’s only partially stop potion. The other half is CG.

WE’RE PROUD TO PRESENT ON STUDIO NIKE
ANOTHER BAD MOVIE THAT NO ONE WILL SEE

I have watched Laika films (recent ones, meaning post-ParaNorman) with several different types of people (family, kids, friends, mixed company).
None of them had a single fucking clue that what they were watching was filmed any differently than the normal CG cartoons they watch all the time.
If I watch Wallace and Gromit with them, they know it's claymation. I watch Kubo with them, and only at the final "behind the scenes" during the credits do they say "Wait, what was that? Was that puppets?"
Are they wrong? No, because Laika basically makes CG films with extra steps. The faces are all modeled and animated in computer software and then just printed out and photographed. Every single frame is slathered in VFX and post processing until it looks all but indistinguishable from any other animated movie. Again, this basically started with Boxtrolls and got worse from there. Of course animation nerds are going in knowing it's Laika and knowing how it was made, but 99% of people are not like that.

>None of them had a single fucking clue that what they were watching was filmed any differently than the normal CG cartoons they watch all the time.
Then they're stupid. End of discussion.
>>
>>150712312
They made the new short in CG because they didn't have the budget to make it stop-motion, and because they came to the logical conclusion that it basically makes no difference at this point anyway unless the viewer pauses the video and looks really closely.

>99% of the audience doesn't matter and only the autists matter
great point
>>
I adore Paranorman and think Coraline is great. Everything else looks great (except Boxtrolls) but leaves me completely cold.
>>
what's with the shill

what's the point of this thread? What's the end goal?

Who?
>>
>>150712417
Dude I could pick up that Paranorman is stopmotion when I was a kid. Your family is just stupid.
>>
>>150712402
Depressing if true.
>>
>>150712417
It unironically is. Caring about the general audience and what normalfags think of things is how we get mind-numbing shit like threads about box office takes and viewing figures, instead of discussing whether something was enjoyable on a personal level and good quality or not.

To argue the point that working AGAINST the medium you're using is retarded and misses the point of craft vs. artistry. Soul is what happens when you EMBRACE limitations, not brush them under the rug with gay modern tech. Laika has lost the plot.

And of course to bait people into saying
>of course it looks different
and
>ok it doesn't look different but that's a good thing
Which of course they already have.
>>
>>150712527
And that's 4chan is known as a website where people shill their products.
>>
>>150712529
Then go watch Rankin Bass movies instead of Coraline.
>>
>>150712547
Rankin Bass is soulful which is why it remains relevant today, as does Coraline. Boxtrolls and Missing Link started using as much or more CG in every shot than physical props, were devoid of soul and irrelevant the week after release. Just shows to go ya
>>
How long until people just give up and get used to 3D? Its never going away, just watch old movies.

CGI is NEVER LEAVING. Just stop complaining.

Frankelda deserves more love. The Mexicans did a damn good job embracing tangible looking puppets and sets and keeping things expressive.

>make them visually indistinguishable from CG
you got it the other way around
the industry has been so focused on making their CG very realistic
>>
>>150712711
WB only gave them enough money for a half-hour special and they had to self fund the rest.
They aren't Nike nepobabies like Laika.
>>
>>150712741
>They aren't Nike nepobabies like Laika.
Laika has actually talented artists that understand appeal
