wtf?

I haven't kept up sinc new52, though I'm familiar with a few things that happened that made it to mainstream news (like the Absolute universe and Tim Drake is gay now for some reason).
I heard DC is teasing another reset?

Is the current main timeline that unpopular?
What went wrong?
>>
I don't think so
>>
>>150716736
They are?
>>
It's possible they'll reboot when Absolute line inevitably combines with the main line in a few years' time
And it's possible they won't
Who gives a shit at this point really

Same episodic bullshit with no consequence.

The Absolute stories have a clear direction. But once that reaches it end we'll get filler trash until it loses its population and we'll get an "Absolute Crisis" where all the stories are put into the same trash can.

From whom?

>I haven't kept up sinc new52,
It shows. Why is it always the people who haven't read comics in over a decade making the wildest assumptions?
No, DC isn't teasing any new reboot, if anything, they've spent basically every big event since then pretty much debooting their universe, there's lore from as far back as Pre-Crisis back into canon.
>>
>>150716756
DC isn't getting rid of the main line, they've already tried that before multiple times, it never ends well.
As unpopular as it may seem to you, there's history there, history that matters to loser nerds that they don't want to see gone AGAIN.
That's why the Absolute Universe is so liked while the New 52 was so hated, Absolute is an addition, not a replacement.

bait thread btw

Periodic reboots are a good thing. It prevents garbage like One More Day from sticking forever.
>>
>>150716791
And you honestly believe this is what they're going to do?
If anything, I predict this event will most likely end with a """new""" yet old timeline that's basically just the old one but with the classic Legion of Super-Heroes back.
They've been meaning to bring those back for a while.
>>
>>150716792
But One More Day has stuck, and the DC equivalents of that either also stick or simply get retconned/reversed, which doesn't require a full reboot.
>>
>>150716792
but OMD has stuck for nearly 20 years?

AU is like because it has a story. N52 was disliked because it was shit.

No one gives a shit about the mainline continuity because it doesn't exist in the first place. It's just a bunch of stories patched together with bad excuses and a sliding timescale.
>>
>>150717009
Admittedly, there are multiple reasons for why Absolute is liked while N52 wasn't, but the fact that Absolute isn't replacing the old universe is definitely one of them.
>No one gives a shit about the mainline continuity because it doesn't exist in the first place. It's just a bunch of stories patched together with bad excuses and a sliding timescale.
Yeah, that's what we call the main continuity, it's messy, confusing, fucked up and made up of the millions of unconnected ideas of thousands of writers, and you'd be surprised to discover that many people have actually grown quite fond of it.
Even to this day you'll see people swear that the Pre-Flashpoint universe was the best and should never have been rebooted, people would just repeat that if the Absolute Universe simply replaced the main one.

have you just never seen Tim Drake
>>
>>150716736
Oh no
>>
>>150716791
Anon this probably has more to do with saving the Legion and solidifying their appearance/roster than rebooting the mainline proper.
>>
>>150716736
Each Crisis has diminishing returns, so they have to keep doing them sooner and sooner.

stopped reading right there
>>

I was just excited with where they were going with all this white lantern stuff and the resurrected characters. Has anyone involved ever posted a roadmap of where they were headed with the DC mainline before the N52 reboot?
>>
They aren't going to ever do a full reboot. It is just going to be more of the same shit. A relaunch with them trying to "fix" their confusing continuity.
>>
>>150716792
The replies to this specific post are saddening
>>
>>150716736
It would be extremely retarded if that's the case.
Waid's History of the DCU basically implies that the current canon is the same as the post-Crisis New Earth, but with some New 52 and Rebirth related tweaks here and there.
Seems like they're pushing the complete opposite.
>>
>>150717706
With the last one they gave up on fixing continuity. There are no new readers, it's all pandering to the last remaining people buying comics until their parent company shuts down floppy production.
>>
rebooting back to when Dick was Robin fixes all their issues.
>>
>>150718086
The Waid's Finest books have their fans but aren't exactly blowing up the charts.
>>
>>150716736
Capeshit is just a series of shitty reboots to try and revitalize sales at this point
