The show isn't a fucking lore show but Zach and Michael probably have a general guideline of "Let it be not depressing and don't make our main cast look like losers." As in, it WOULD be cool if the Smiling Friends get loses from time to time but ultimately, later, bring it back to a win because it's supposed to be a fun happy story overall.
