I felt like during Spider-Verse is when he started shoving in as many references as possible in order to appeal to people through the powers of Wikia. But he's massively out of touch with normal people who don't want to see all those characters job and die because jobbing and dying like that is not interesting because Morlun didn't have any real threat or connection to readers at that point. Doomsday had menace in how he was built up and the justice league jobbing actually had a bit more respect and made everyone around Doomsday visibly fearful. Sure he did come out of nowhere and the arc still sucks a little bit but at least jobbing still had some balance back then. Didn't help Morlun kept returning.
